Hi Luke,
As a reference, what's your first boat?
To run 25mph with the motor you mentioned it almost has to be a rigger or a hydroplane.
A monohull with a 500/600 motor on seven cells, runs about 20-22mph.
In order to get faster you'll need a bigger hull (mono2 700 motor, 12-14 cells), 28-30mph, or use a brushless set-up in the smaller (500/600 motor) monohull.
Regards, Jan.

How about this one?
http://shop.graupner.de/webuerp/serv...11&language=en
Sturdy GRP hull, strong enough to survive a flip at topspeed.
Or something like this:

ARR, just add ESC and batteries...

You're better off working with another motor that that 540. Just because it's a 17t motor doesn't mean it's fast, or nearly the best thing for what you're trying to do. Jump up to a Speed 600 and your options open up greatly. Go even further to a 700bb and you're really getting to where you want to be.

Most likely not, as the 700bb is a 9 turn motor, if I'm not mistaken.
Being UK based, you could get an MIMIR esc by CTI for 32,50 Euro ex shipping; 30V - 50A continuous, I run my 700bb Neo on it, no problem.
Let me know if you want the mailadress to order one.

32.5 Euro comes out to $39.71 USD, so for that price it's a good deal! Does it have bec? Do you know approx shipping costs are to the US?
Jan, do you watercool that esc? When you say 30v, does that mean it'll handle up to 25 cells?

You might also consider the Turbo Vee3. I just put in a 19 turn motor (AYK 480R) with stock prop a 7 cell battery and it's going around 20-22 mph and still has decent run times. It's so much faster now I had to make bigger turn fins to keep it from spinning out (almost a 360). The boat itself is not expensive and the motor was only $20.00 USD.

Hi Bryan,
Yes, that's a good deal indeed!
The manufacturer CTI states a maximum of 22 cells, as fresh from the charger the good NiMH's will have over 1,35V per cell.
That's staying on the safe side, when the initial peak is run off this ESC will handle 24 cells, as German boaters have tested.
BEC is usable up to 16 cells, more cells will cause the BEC circuit to heat up the heatsink as it has to convert the surplus over 5V into heat.
We run this ESC in out 12-14 cell boats and have no heat issues, I have one running stock and one that's watercooled, I can hardly tell the difference after a 7-8 minute run, but cooling is always better.
The service from CTI is excellent, due to spread in the quality of the Fets used, occasionally a MIMIR will quit, due to a bad Fet, I've mailed them and returned the ESC and got a new one, no questions asked.
Steven Vaccaro has tried to make a deal with CTI, as far as I know it hasn't been concluded yet.
I'll look into the shipping costs, shouldn't be too much, as the ESC weighs only 40 grams. A stamp should suffice.
Problem will be how to get these relative small amounts across the Atlantic without huge additional costs, if I was to send you one.
I added a pic of my watercooled MIMIR.
Regards, Jan.
[EDIT] Shipping: Envelope 1,22 Euro (would fit easily), Package (better wrapped), 3,70 Euro.

OK then thanks guys. I'm gonna stick with the electronics I got because I've only had them 4 months with very little use so I'm gonna keep my 16 turn motor in it but with a much better hull and I should get a bit more speed out of the motor.
