Default Dead Motor?

Hi guys,
Think I killed my motor, Mega 22/20/2, it got hot, now it has no power and you can spin it freely you your fingers, seems like all the magnets have gone....what gives??
Thanks,
Rob

can you look inside to see the brushes and commutator? You probably melted your brushes and or glazed over the commutator. You can always try cleaning it with some alcohol and q-tips. If you're brushes are shot, you'd have to replace them, if you can on those motors.

Dont know if its the same as racing cars but i guess it is, heat is the enemy of magnets and is eventually the down fall of an electric motor. Not sure if you can get em that hot to kill em in one go but it wont help, you can get magnet zappers to re do the magnets but probably cheaper to just get a new motor.

I tried an experiement with zapping magnets and the magnets became strong with in a few hours of the process. How I know they became strong I tested the kv using the generator method where you connect a drill and spin the motor shaft at a give speed and then check the voltage at the terminals. The voltage at the terminal increase on all the motors I did the zapping experiement on. This is how it goes. First wrap a long piece of coil around the out side of the magnetic field on the can when you have it properly wrapped it would cover the entire lenght of the magnets. Secondly connect each side of the coil to a switch then connect a power supply ( battery pack ) on the other side of the switch. The idea is to short out the battery through the coil. Use the switch to control how long you short out the battery. Don't allow the power to flow longer than 1 second or even half a second at time. It's really quick bursts of high current through the coil. This method strengthen the magnets of two 700bb motors and a 290/30 series plettenberg.

What length and gauge of magnet wire did you use?

I am not sure of the exact size but it might be around 26awg. I tried it on a new 700 and it increase the strenght of the magnets a bit. The only thing I am unsure of is to explain which way to flow the current through the coil. I connected the positve of the power supply to the top path of the coil that going to the top of the motor.
