The BJBL is getting closer to 50mph! I ran a 49.1 today. The pond was flat with the exception of some small waves coming from the fountain. I think the reason I reached the higher speed is that I was able to run it wide open longer than before. I am still running the ammo 36-50-2300, hydra 120, trinity 6 cell 4200s and a x642 propeller.

What, 50mph? How does that hull handle? I just ordered a SV, it'll be in stock the 21st so I should have it right after X-Mas! Hey maybe you could give me your thoughts on this idea. What about the 36-50-3300 in the SV27? Knowing your motor do you think the 3300 would be to hot of a motor? I've heard the ammo motors are very good motors but I'm not sure what the very best/fastest KV I should shoot for? I think the stock is only like 1600kv. Or would a feigao xl be better suited?

Wow, keep up the good work. How's that Hydra 120 holding up? (cuz i fried mine [:'(])
This should maybe give you some ideas about using a feigao XL.

Go under FDM hulls and you should find a converted Black Jack 26. (the url of the FDM hull list isn't currently working for me right now)
I'm thinking of doing this hull design in the future sometime.

I know this completely off topic but I couldn't help posting it, After I seen the snowmobile on fine design I had to check youtube. They also have an electric conversion. It's allmost like boating they do it on the water
. I live in wisconsin and just ordered a new SV27 but it will be sitting on the shelf all winter. This is the perfect answer to the winter rc blues. outhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UPt4_VFDTI

What about the 36-50-3300 in the SV27?
But don't plan on using the stock ESC for more than one pass. I understand that the 2300kv version is pushing the limits of the ESC and to a lesser extent - the hull.

Nitro you will find with the sv that the 2300 has plenty of power. Avanti27 has the sv/ammo combo, and right now he is just trying to figure out how to get it to lay down and run.
Bob the XL motor will most likely be next. I am just so close though, that I want to try and break 50 as it is before I step it up.
Dustin, I will probably go for 60, but it will probably take some changes to do so.

I can picture a big Blackjack 55 going 50MPH but seeing the SV go 50 has to be incredible! I'd love to see a video of that! So cool! Have you tried LiPos yet?

True, but it's something that most of us don't see everyday, and some never see. I personally have never seen a SV go 50 and based on how twitchy mine can get over 40, it would just be a sight to see one whip by over the chop going that fast. When you consider scale speed and throw in scale wave size, it is an incredible feat and sight. There's also a huge difference in a small boat specifically designed and engineered for racing or a straight line pass speed run doing it as opposed to a $250 RTR boat that, with a brushless motor, wasn't even conceivable at anywhere near that price just a couple of short years ago. That may not impress you, but I consider that a great accomplishment! Sometimes we take things for granted that may impress those who don't experience them on a daily basis. Starting to ramble now, I am reminded of this every time that I go to Seattle and see the incredible mountains and Mount Rainier looming large in the distance, the see locals not even looking (understandably), and going to our plant and hear workers there say that they didn't even notice that the visibility was clear enough to see Rainier!
There are folks that fly RC jets very frequently and it's no big deal to them, but I am still amazed at the speed and technology and skill, not to mention the costs, that go into the whole operation!
As you know, a speed increase is an ever increasing curve. You can't just double the power and get double the speed automatically. Drag and parasitic loss factor in, and for those that can squeeze extraordinary performance out of a small, realtively cheap, package, I am impressed! It's much different than when everything was die cut ply, and battery technology left a lot to be desired. Li, NiMH, brushless, and, for better or worse, cheap overseas labor have made a huge impact on all aspects of RC.

I agree. For the price that's a very impressive speed but Crusty keeps mentioning th SV, aren't we talking about a black jack? I'd be very impressed with a 50mph SV b/c I've been struggling to top 40 (all original power plant for now). Still be impressed with 50 out of a BLBJ. But if you pack $1200 in the best materials into a 19" boat I'd expect you could do more the clown makes a good point.

HEY HEY KIDS!! Sorry about that, I mentioned the SV a lot but I primarily meant the BJ. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zCIzIPLVec . It appears to be a Nitro Blackjack 26 converted over (based on the hull colors) but man, she's smokin!
I was thinking SV because although it's faster out of the box, I believe that it's inherently less stable in water with any kind of chop (even self-generated) even more so than the BJ so I basically expect the BJ to handle better than the SV at the same speed. They are both a world of fun and I enjoy running mine!
SV27dayton, you are dead on but think about that $1200 today. The goodies that you are buying for that cash weren't available for any price not that very long ago!

Yeah that boat is screaming. That's got an octura flex drive and rudder and way more power than the RTR.
BJ = no chine walk which is my biggest problem above 35mph. The BJ has built in training wheels.

You got that right! I need all the training wheels that I can get, just in case.
How about this for extra stability for a BJ or SV...remember Hawaii Five-O? They had the dugout canoes with the outriggers lashed on...maybe one sticking out about 2 feet on each side!!

A co-worker here has a Villain EX with 13T motors and upgraded CF51 props and when he gets it up to speed it chine walks until it does an endo (He also runs 7 cell packs in it). He sinks it a lot. I told him that he's asking a lot from a (very) deep vee hull! He can show you a good example of chine-walking!

I had 6MPH difference between my stock SV and mine, and a friends, new BJ boats. I've read a lot on the boards where folks with both mention that the SV is a good bit faster.

BB/Thunder,
Sounds like the solid rocket booster on the '74 impalla to me. Do you ever bring it back to the shore under power after a 58-60 mph run? BT, what's your runtime on 12 cells? 45 sec?

LOL 45 seconds.
Dude. a P offshore cat running 12 cells will run 55 plus. so its not out of the ordinary...P boats will run a good 60+ with lipo power.
and they run for about 2 mins .
its not a crazy fast boat for the class, But for it being a black jack. But then he says hes using a hacker knock off and a diffrent esc and its not out of the question.
