Hear is some useful information on making your own flex drive. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/inf...mble-shaft.php. I used a dremel with a cut off wheel to cut mine.
Then solder the end to help keep from uraveling. Some folks recomend soldering the cable where you want to cut before you make your cut, others say that it is not necessary, only when you are finished.
I did not solder mine first and had no problems, but I am no expert on this matter, others may want to chime in.
I have also heard of guys using a type of large dyke to cut their cables.
Good luck and have fun.
Joe

Just remember when you cut the cable have the cut-off wheel turning in the same direction as the twist in the cable otherwise the disc could snag on one the wires and fray the end of the cable. If you pre-solder the spot where you are going to cut less chance of fraying the end of the cable.

Question on attaching the cable to the stub shaft... Offshire shows you how to join them without soldering buy useing loctite. Is this method very strong? Or would it be better to solder as Octura says in their directions?

PS... I tried the link posted above but it didn't work as posted the period(.) caused the problem here is an ammended link that works

Also if you have the collet that you are going to use you'll want to do some test fitting. It's easiest out of the boat. yo may need to sand or do som creative dremmel work to make it slip in easily. If you solder make sure you have all the strands wrapped tightly or the end will be mushroomed and will be a hastle to slide in and out.

Dayton:

You got any ideas on how to stop a flex drive cable from stripping at the motor nut. Warren
