I have an SV27 I have been running for 3 years now. I bought a bigger prop and noticed a heavy vibration/farty sound on take-off that I could avoid by easing in the the throttle. Performance at speed was fine. I switched back to my favourite X440/3 prop and noticed the same sound but much reduced. All of a sudden, I lost the whole wire drive and prop.
I have always kept this thing lubed and the wire looked fine to me. Was there something I missed? I have replacement parts but I am wondering how much teflon tubing should be in the brass tube. It seems like there were two shortish pieces (total of 3"" in the boat when I retrieved, I may have lost some with the prop and wire when it fell out. Is there a magic value I should be stuffing into the tube?

I usually get this noise when the prop shaft sleeve or bushings start to wear down. I have flex shaft that are nearly 10 years old that still work very well. When the right combination is selected they can last years with proper maintenance.

By prop shaft sleeve, you mean the teflon liner for the stuffing tube? This is my first time hearing it. It really did not last long after I started hearing it before the whole flex cable severed near the motor.

Sorry, I was referring to this as the sleeve type bushing

When they wear it causes the prop shaft to vibrate rapidly. The teflon liner is cheap and probably could be swapped as well. I have not had to swap the bushing in the SV strut. If there's excessive wear on the prop shaft it might be a good idea to just swap all three parts.
