Default Joe and Ed's Weedy 25cc gas boat. 48" Mono hull

I have a 25cc fx26 weedeater engine

i need some plans for a boat. I'd like to do somthing in fiberglass and inner braces in wood.

I have servos, reciever and remote from a 1/8scale buggy i had, can I use them in the boat? They are metal gears in the servos but not sure what ounce.

Im really into working with my hands, how hard is it to make a rudder. i do not have a drill press and it seems i may need one to hook up the pin through the rudder? can this be done with a regular drill? Is there any specialty tools i will need?

If anyone has some plans i would love to have a few to choose from it would be great. I may be looking at a Mono hull? i think thats what it is called or maybe a V hull. Me and a buddy will be building the same boat or at least somthing close just to mess around a bit! I am really looking forward to talking to everyone about the build and getting to know more about gas rc boats. Pictures of the engine mods are coming within the next hour or so. gotta love free brand new weedeaters!

If anyone could send me plans that would be great! My Email is [email protected] and my buddys Email is [email protected]

Thanks

Joe

Go to Modelpowerboat.com join for free and go to the download section, there are quit a few plans to chose from. Then print them out and have some fun. I've built two from the plans, well one that has hit the water and the other is in progress. Most of the builds on here are modified versions of the plans, scaled down, more free board, wider, ect. check out some of the build threads from Martno1fan,Steve Marshall, Bentley Marshall, mine and I'm sure there are a few I missed but all are intresting interpritations on similar plans. Good luck and keep us posted with progress shots.

hi the motor looks good ,are you keeping it air cooled? if so id suggest removing part of the front plastic shroud to allow more air to the head as i dont see any slots in the shroud to direct air to it?. theres also a free cat plan i posted on here you can download for free depending on what mods you have done to the motor and what power she puts out it might be an option.

First off Mart, Your the man I've been reading your posts and the builds you do are so detailed! Great job. Well If i can go water cooled how would i go about doing that? I'm looking to keep this under $100-$150. is there a huge benefit from having a water cooled engine? i can defiantly mod the engine to make it breath better, I just wanted to keep it so the pull start would look somewhat good. Do you think that this would be better for the cooling cutting between the black X area

i just finished my woodie and today was the first time in the water . i used 1/8 oak door skins for the deck sides and bottom i used 1/4 ply for the stringers and for the transom i to was trying to keep my costs around the 150.00 and i was able to do it. when finished with fuel it ways 14 pounds so if you can find some balsa cheap i would use it where i could to try to keep the weight down.
good luck and have fun

Thanks man, congrats on the build hope everything is how you wanted it. I thought that i would ahve to use balsa all around but i would like to use a tougher wood on the bottom at least. Thanks again, going to homedepot right now to get some wood!

I have a pretty vivid imagination and good with modding things out to make them work. But, I ran across this site that shows you basic principles to modding the head to water cool it http://www.modelpowerboat.com/Water_...dwacker_Engine

Hey all i was wondering about what size i should scale too. the engine i have is 25cc stock weedy and weighs 4lbs pics above of course. Would a 50" be just about right? I was planning on using the 72" offshore mono build and scaling it down to 69% of the original size. Would that be the right size for the engine i have?

not much room in a 50'' go a bit bigger if you can mu next hull will be 60'' heaps more room to work around the engine

I would not recommend building a petrol powered boat in balsa, it will not be strong enough. Aircraft plywood or door skins are a better choice. 1/4" for formers and stringers, 1/8" for the sides and bottom. 1/16" for the deck. You can lighten the structure by drilling lightening holes in stringers and formers.
There are some very good build threads on here, take your time, do a search and read through them

First thing ditch that air cleaner. It restricts air flow and isn't needed on a boat. You can choke it with your finger.Close off the original exhaust holes on the muffler and put two 1/2" stacks out the top, with 90 deg elbows to blow the exhaust to the side. You can stuff the crankcase by adding a piece of aluminum or heat resistant plastic to the inner face of the crank cover to get it about .020 from the crank pin surface.Might give you a couple hundred more revs. Also get rid of the Champion plug and get an NGK for it .I've been playing around with a Weedeater brand 22cc and added a Walbro carb with a slightly larger venturi and noticed big difference in acceleration.Depending on your engines intake and exhaust you may be able to do some mods there.Due to its limited output and size I'll probably convert my engine to an airplane engine someday. Here's a pic of a Poulan engine in a boat. http://www.martysrcboats.com/pix/bille.jpg

hi mate firstly i think the motor should do ok in a boat, one thing i would change is the carb.If you can get a walbro wa167 to fit it will really make it come alive, you can keep it with a can muffler for a while and maybe go to a tuned pipe later if you wish.As for a boat id build the gas mono 48" not the offshore one,any bigger than 48" and the weedy just wont cut it power wise .leave it air cooled and run it open hatch, heres my version of the 48" woody, send me your email and ill send you the plans unless you allready have them?.

Take a look a my build thread, i will bump it up after this. You can make the rudder yourself you just have to be patient.

Hey everyone thanks for posting! I think i will go with the 48" mono just gonna talk to my buddy and make sure he wants to go along with that also. I had one of the sites members contact me for a carb he is going to search through his stash and see what he has laying around, Thanks again George! Tidnab, If I take off the air filter do I just put a piece of screen over it or something? I totally agree with the NGK plug the champion is just what it had in it. Im not really sure what you mean about stuffing the crankcase but dammit I'm willing to try it for more power! Modding the muffler will be interesting wasn't planning on leaving it stock, but cant really afford a tuned pipe. Thanks again more to come today hopefully!

leave the airbox on just remove the innards then it will stop spray geting into the air intake.also you can still use the choke too ,thats what i did on mine anyway .

Hello everyone! I'm Ed, Joes buddy. I have a forum out there that asks what kind of an engine I should get but all these guys want me to buy Zenoah, etc. I don't have the money for those kind of engines. I just want somthing like Joe has, but I don't know what to go with for reliability, cheap, and easy to install. I would rather go to sears and buy a 70$ wead trimmer and mod it than go to a hobby store and spend $400...So, any Ideas?
