The Lawless leg problems!
Were do the flex broke?
Hmm in front of the prop shaft...
Its realy a sharp turn there on the flex..
i think its not a good ide to hawe the bent so close to the sqver end.(i image that the weak point is were sqver and round meats)

If shortening the sqver to its minimum in this end of the shaft i think there wuld be som les weare on the point wen it go from sqver to round.

and remov the teflon tube and put a bras tube is a good idea to (se that some of you hawe don this)

And run mutsh oil (a good oil) in the leg i think to will help a bit.

Im still mising some parts for starting my mods on the leg.

How you bend a bras tube?

Eny one haw some ideas on more mods of the leg?

Most the flex be sqver in bout ends?
Wuldent it be ok to ounly haw sqver in the end that coms to the engine?
How mutsh "pley" are there in the shaft?
5-6mm ?

Wildent it be bether to haw the flex to be round from the prop shaft and only hawe the sqver end in motor end?
Then there wuldent be the step from sqver to round in the area were it a sharp bend..

I think "this sqver to round area + the sharp bend" is the problem for the flex..

I hawe 3 diferent 1/4" flex home and all of them is "hard" in the area they go from sqver to round..

Do i focus on the right spot here??
is this the area flex broke most of the times?

dothe shaft go short or do it grove in lengt ven drive?

Hi guys,
I had the ypc hull out today for its maiden voyage and all went pretty well, didn't have my tx steering set correct(I like it reversed) so the first run was a bit odd feeling but still a thrill for a first time gasser. I was being so careful of the prop on recovery I ended up pitting a pinhole in the dingy with the water pick up and that was the only problem. Hull was a bit bouncy at very low speed but cleaned up as you got on the gas-a bit of tweeking needed. Engine went well and a good arvo. I have a couple of vids on the iphone just dont know how to get them to here, as soon as I work that out I will upload them.
Cheers,
Dion.

Hi DION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FINALLY - WELL DONE - IT ALL LOOKS GOOD - JUST NEED A 'BIGGER' DAM ! TO STRETCH THAT CABLE .

HOW DID THE ADRENALINE GLANDS FEEL 'OPENING UP AGAIN' - DID YOU FEEEL THE JITTERS WHEN YOU GOT ONOT THE WATER.......

I have taken some time out from F1 R&D and invested some long needed time into a project 'Long promised'
I am building a RC Surfer for production - So far so good - just waiting for the running gear to arrive and we will be good to go SURFING !

Will post you my first YouTUbe Clip when done.

Hi there guys,
You're not wrong about needing a bigger dam, the edges come up a lot quicker with the larger boat, plus I need to build a little confidence in the turning capabilities so i can use a bit more of the dam. It is twice as big but the reeds and lillies have gone wild the last two years. Good to know there is more speed to come, should be real fun when I make up some buoyes.
Nice work on the surfer Dom!! Look forward to the vids. How are these powered? Can you run them on the wake of a real boat?
Cheers,
Dion.

Hi Dion,
A good runner she is . Weldone mate on the build and maiden. I'd like a pic of your grin when she is on a full flight at a bigger pond.

Hi Dom,
A work of art you've got there and I must say, a lot of thinking has gone into it as well. Categorise under toys only, I think. The famous copier and you know who I mean, will get hold one of these and start mass production and sell them cheaply.
They always copy don't they ? lol

Thanks for that LaTiff, I will need the wide lens on the camera for that grin, I was pretty happy to have her on the water, cant wait to get on some more open water to get her going. I will look into a rev counter soon or a gps so I can let you know how the speed is going. cant wait for the next outing!
Cheers,
Dion.

Hi Dion/Latiff

The rc surfer is not a new concept - it was brought out by an American in 1980 then bought from him by Kyhoso.
They produced a good many of them for a few years - BUT - like most all things made in China - they look good - BUT - dont quite cut it.
They stooped producing them a few years back.
There are a number of them being 'modified' to surf well and have achieved some really amazing Surf Rides in waves up to 6 ft face.

I have been wanting to do our own product for some time now and done plenty of research for it to have a AAA rating
AWESOME - AFFORDABLE - AVAILABLE.................................. leave one of these out - and - well - whats the use.

The man we have designed to be 'flexible' so there is less risk of him breaking........in big surf.

Latiff - Like most all things - some one will copy it - but - there is more to a product than meets the eye.
I am working to make the rc surfer as affordable as possible - built to run with smaller brushless motor/esc/and lipos so as to keep the cost down.

A RTS ( Ready to surf) Bro Surfer will retail at about $500 complete including a 2.4 G pistol grip radio.

Dion - they are made for 1 - 6 ft surf face - but are real fun behind the boat when you have done enough shiing for the day .
They can do back flips - forward rolls - side rolls - whatever manuver you can come up with using the power /speed /steering and lip of the wave.

Its a BLAST !!!!

Dominic(YPC)

The VP-leg from Gerrit Bakker @650€ is a good and safe catch ..

Nice side-effect ; Gerrit will have cash for other project .. ha ha

About your "spam" .. you are member on Xtreme-board .. you can PM Gerrit ([link=http://www.xtremercboats.com/phpBB/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2809]gerritnsx[/link])

And about that exhaust .. It's South-African ... Graham Coker > http://www.cokerraceproducts.com
Also you can ask Don Shanks (donhollys on Jim's) to make you one out of a QD-DIY(DeepV)-kit.
(for Outboard/GB .. use a 3" flex)
And use a RCMK or my silencer if you need it quiet .

About the rear-exhaust engine .. buy the new K30 .. power all over the place. :-)

Feel free to mail me if you want to know more.

Hi Zenman 63

Welcome to the Forum - and more so - welcome to the great sport of F1 Gas Outboards !

Man - that photo is a blast from my distant past in F1 gas outboard development - early 2000's ( check out the K&B leg)
WOW - we have come a long way............................................... ......................................... its been well worth it !!!!!

The pipe in question was one of the the first pipes YPC offered. I initially teamed up with Graham to produce a pipe for the gas Outboards.
The pipe produced great HP = But had a few inherent problems that we could not overcome in the design/manufacture.
- the silencer would often 'break of' at the stinger joint if there was excessive vibration in the instillation. ( often the case)
The rigid exhaust flange made it difficult to keep the exhaust bolts fast and the flange would also break 'if' the exhaust was not secured properly.
The unit itself weighed 600 grams and due to its high routed 'path' around the top of the motor - it presented a High CG - which increased the outward centrifugal force in cornering - often lifting the inside turning sponson out of the water.
The unit was also custom made ( with a fixed flange) to fit the Lawless leg and often would not fit other brands of legs.

Having said all that - we stopped supplying those pipes when Graham closed shop and planned to go overseas around 2008 "I think"
'I do have a second hand one in stock' if you would still want to use it.

I cant figure how you would route a Rear exhaust system - you also do not want the manifold to get 'to wet' all the time - not good for performance.

For your interest: Since that pipe - I continued the development and have come a long way in producing a pipe that performs well and fits most all instillation- only weighs 400 grams - has a low slung routing ( lower CG) - fitted with a standard water cooling Flange type custom manifold of 304 stainless - eliminates the risk of flange failure as well as allows the position of the pipe to be rotated. The new YPC Pipe has been run for several years now - producing HP that keeps the competition at bay - fitted world wide with great success on most all motors - stock and mod.
No additional silencer is required do to the unique stinger position.

Check out YouTube - formulaish - to see most all the boats racing fitted with our YPC Unit.

Contact me direct via mail if any of this can help you.

Hi, Dominic thanks for the reply

The rear exhaust came from a search on here and other forums and I found one in use, RCMK and the pipe just bends and then swings round the engine.
What do you want for the used pipe you have.
Also any pictures on your new pipe would be good.

Hi Dion

The Surf board is 60cm long ( 2 ft) - the picture is somewhat of an optical elusion.
Height appr. 30 cm with surfer attached.

The length has been determined by designing the board around the more affordable running gear as in motor.esc - batteries etc - as well as convenience of transporting/ storing AND shipping.

I have found in all the development that I have done - that if it is not reasonably affordable - it aint going to sell.
This set up will sell RTS ( READY TO SURF/Shred) for $500 complete with a 2.4 gig Pistol grip radio and charger.
Obviously the production boards will be of colour with decals etc.

I TOOO ! am looking forward to seeing it Rip in the surf - I have done plenty of research as to the design - from reading all the forums to studying big wave board designs etc - I am a surfer myself since the age of 6 - raced inflatables in the surf as well as Jet Skis - so this is right up my ally.

I have a very good feeling about it overall.

The Surfer himself is unique in that he is flexible to bend any which way - the rigid surfer used on other setups often breaks in severe wipe-outs.

I have decided to withdraw from my local club racing for this season due to our dam being water level being very low.

I will spend the year doing some intense R&D to ensure that the surfer is ALL GOOD when it goes to market.

I live 3 minutes from the beach (Muizenberg.False Bay ) so the testing ground is on my doorstep.

Its refreshing doing something different - Its been all F1 for the past 20 years plus - I am still manufacturing the F1 boats -pipes legs etc- just not doing any further development for now.

Will be sure to post the video's - !

It sounds like a sweet package Dom!! I hope all goes well for you. A shame to hear about the water issues but you are in a good position now to take a break and play around and hopefully have a real hunger to get back racing in a year. I am sure you will still be getting plenty of mail regarding the F1s on your break! look forward to seeing the progress.
All the best,
Dion.
