Hi Dion

Unfortunately "Hobby King" are on 'back order' with the motor I have ordered. Frankly - I am enjoying the rc Surfing Development so much that I have not been fussed.
I am on my 4th development board now - I have come a long way in design and in understanding the in's and out's of the FE's - it will all ultimately add value to my eventual F1 HVFE build. ( there is no rush at the moment)

A short clip - having some fun in small surf .....can ride wave sup to 8 foot face !

Thanks Dion - really enjoy it.....

Your parcel should be with you mid week - let me know if you need some pointers on changing the skeg over.

Cant wait to get it so I can start sharpening to get that razor blade finish on it-got to keep the weeds down in the lake somehow!!! Thanks for the offer of help, I will surely take you up on that,
Cheers,
Dion.

I have come to find that a 'razor sharp' edge at the front of the skeg is not good. I have prepped you skeg already.
A small round at the leading edge is better, as it allows water flow around both sides of the skeg in the turns. ( like the leading edge on a fighter jet wing- ithas a round - not sharp)
The sharp leading edge tends to create a air pocket on the low side of the skeg in the turn which causes 'blow out'

Interesting. Do you sharpen the bottom of the skeg at all?

also keep it 'roundish' - never sharp.

Hey, anyone try one of the new DPIHobby USA outboard lowers? There at a pretty decent price, and they look pretty spiffy!

Hi Bill

Had a look at the outboard unit - very nice looking - I would like to see some one test it ( like the developers)
The transom mount looks a bit fragile.
Gear drives are also known to 'sap' power - with electric that is a no no - as with gas.
The unit will certainly appease the scale modeler - but for outright Gas Outboard racing - I reckon the Flex drives are still the way to go.

Regards

Sorry, Imade a mistake. This unit is too small for gas- its designed for large nitro or electric. It uses a flex shaft though. Here is the link: http://www.dpihobbyusa.com/index.php...roducts_id=110

Which drive were you looking at? Can you show us a link?
Thank you

Hi oz,
send Al at bh hanson an email and ask for the "one piece aluminium square drive" cost me 24.95 plus shipping but that may have changed now. I used carbon tube with a length of threadedstainless rod glued inside using 30 min epoxy. i used 3 or 4 mm rod. cant remember which one as I have both but I can check if you want. I am using the aero marine collet at the moment with Doms longer flex shafts and have the hanson one for the shorter flex.
Cheers,
Dion.

If you need rubber boots for your rods, go to the wreckers and look on the Hyundais under the bonnet, forget which model, but get them of the clutch I think-been a while. Just pop the bonnet and have a look around and you will see them. just need a good pair of pliers that cut cable.

Hi Bruce,
I have not been able to get the gas tunnel out for a bit as I really need help to launch that one at my lake. the nitro tunnels I can manage by myself but the weather has either been too wet or had committments. Solution- I joined a club where I can get help to launch and have a bit more space. My partner has been working 7 days so she cant help at this point. I do get it started here and there and load it in the car waiting for the rain to stop, but have to keep swapping back to the nitro which i dont mind about. Wish I had a fellow boater in the area that could help out. I am not giving up though mate coz I love the size of the gas tunnel!!
Cheers,
Dion

Hi Bruce,
Sounds like you and Jim are doing it for the team!! I got the nitro out again this morning while the wind was still down, the rain held off until lunchtime at which point I lost a screw off my header- didn't have a spare on me so went home. You know I was keen as I had to chop up the trees that had fallen across the road and drag them out the way with the 4x4 to get to the lake!! The water was very brown and high and full of debris from the s....ty weather we have been getting, but it did not stop me,lol. Looks like the rain might stay away for a day as the sun has come out now-sort of. Dont know whether to do an engine rebuild tonight or leave it and just head back out tomorrow morn for another session. Starting to get a bit of play in the rod now. Maybe I'll just swap the power head over as I am feeling a bit lazy this arvo.
All the best,
Dion.
