All pull starters will fail sooner or later and with the head shim out even sooner, belt start is99.9% foolproof and is totaly affordable since replacing pull starter and shaft is almost the same $ as a sullivan starter and battery. I also fly airplanes so starters were not an issue for me, I just bring the old flightbox. tower hobbies I'm sure has a good deal on starters.

I just did a little shopping at tower , starter 18.00 to26.00 battery 12.00 belt 8.00 pull starter aquacraft, 21.50 shaft 5.50 and thats if you dont need a new bushing plate 9.00. it's a no brainer in my eyes.

I was just wondering what the best glow plug is to use. I was using a A3 after the OEM burned out. Which ones will perform the best. I will be using O'Donnell 30%.

Why replace the back plate and shaft? Just throw a belt on the flywheel. If the engine dies, replace it with the CVR-M instead of the MX version.

If your planning to race it go with duratrxa gold,it for racing and high nitro applations. If you want to run a Mc coy go with a MC-8 med/cool plug. I'd just looked at there specks on tower now.

Default RE: Aquacraft Super-Vee 27 Nitro.

Just returned from doing some test runs against a MV that has been "radared"(is that a word?) at 38 mph. The MV was going at least that fast this afternoon.

Running O'Donnell 30%and Octura X437/3 I was right there with the MV speed wise. The MV was running 45% fuel and using a MAC 2.5 tuned pipe.

I opened up the slots in the strut to allow the strut to be adjusted down. I probably have 2 degrees of negative prop thrust now. This adjustment made a huge difference in how the boat rode. The boat is much more stable on the straightaways and I can now make WOT corners that I wasn't able to make before.

I also replaced the stock ride plates with 1 1/4" wide X 2" long aluminum plates, moved the right side transom fin to the edge of the bottom, installed a new transom fin that is 1/2" deeper than the stock, and moved the water pickup tube next to the strut bracket because of the longer ride plates.

8 oz. of lead are stuffed under the radio box framework and the rudder has been lowered 1/2" on the transom.

I also tried the M440 again today, but the X437/3 proved to be faster. However, the M440 sure threw a cool looking roostertail.

I will be testing some of the Grim Racer props soon and will provide the results

Are in line fuel filters nessesary on the SV 27. I have them on my cars and wondering if it would be a good idea on the SV or would it lower the performance?

I don't think it would lower performance. I don't see many(if any boaters) running fuel filters on MVs or SV 27 Nitros.

I don't run filters on any of my planes or boats. Keep the fuel and the tank clean and there is no need for them.

I don't run filters in my boats but I do in my cars. There is no chance at all in performance. IMO a lot of the filters are no good anyway as they are quite coarse in their filtration.

Good morning piper, I just was comparing the prices to repair a worn out pull start, or throw a belt on it. No way I would spend the money on rip cord parts, save the money for hotrod engines and nitro he he he.

relocating the pressure tap to the "top" of the pipe would cure that issue.....[:-] the clunks in airplane style tanks have a filter in them as i was told, other than that ,I don't use a filter ...

I run a fuel filter on eveything except planes. I also use a filter on my fuel pickup (Clunk) in the gallon jug. In line on a boat or car, I only use the stone filter type. There is no loss in performance as they have very little restriction.

Can you explain what a stone filter is or how it works? Sorry- I am a bit of a newbie to nitro and I put a mesh filter on my nitro car which I thought was the only type. Thanks!

It's simmilar and same princible to ones the ones on the old carter carb afb's and quaderjets on the muscle cars. The stones are tighter together then mesh screen=better filtraion. Like a air stone to a fish tank.same pricable but air particals cant go threw stone filter,on mesh some partical can get threw it.[8D]

It's called sintered bronze. Some of the R/C cars and trucks have them already installed in their fuel tanks.
now to get this back on topic, I got my Aquacraft GrimRacer prop in today, finally! It looks exactly like what they look like in the shots, polish and all. It's in my pocket right now and I've got to take it down and check the balance..
