I stumbled across it while battery shopping for the Cub. I think maybe I need to get the Champ patched up while I wait on parts...

Yah, I DO have a few aircraft don't I?

Yeppers I know of the Catilina and it's ALMOST big enough for me to see!

I'm gonna test the lil ICON this AM when the sun rises just for fun.

As for you, when you shop batteries and lay hands on same......

What's the plan?

A quick heads-up for our readers who can order from the EU warehouse; HobbyKing has their TGY-306G Alloy Digital servos (The MKS Clone) on The Swarm for $18.78. A hair over $3 off; will save you almost $10 on a set for your FBL HK450GT build.

Aww, too bad about your Icon. I still suspect bearings, or maybe the collar got stuffed up on the shaft and is binding.

My plan is to continue on the Cub build as money permits; I'm thinking I may go FRSky w/Telemetry on this build. I have all the kit for a micro quad build I was gonna work up, but wound up in a falling out with my supplier over a used/customer return chassis sold as new. My motor is a bit hot (3548, best guess is around 900KV) for the prop I want to run (14x4.7SF) so I think I want to monitor temp, maybe current draw too. In the meantime, maybe get my Champ patched up and go do a little parking lot flying if the wind ever effing dies down around here.

Okay... I'm looking at a pic of your motor on the HH website... Are you SURE there isn't a teeny little c-clip inside the tail housing?

If not, sounds like you got one with a pressed on collar. If you have a good small pair of diagonal cutters or needle-nose pliers with good sharp serrated jaws, you may be able to get a grip on the collar and twist it loose by turning the motor bell. The bad news is you probably won't get it back on tight; but since your Icon is a pusher, it doesn't really need it anyways.

Can you get me a good, high-res pic of the end of that tail housing? I can tell you a lot more if i can SEE what you're working with. If you own a flatbed scanner, that can often be misused to get a good, magnified image. Set your scan area very small; crop it just big enough for the subject area on the preview, and turn the DPI up as high as it can go.

Hi again mnem!

It was good to actually speak with you the other day!

Nawp, no C-Clip!

It's simply pressed on.

When you pull it loose there is a single bearing in the middle of the stater. I used a "brad" as a "drift" and knocked it apart!

As you and I discussed at 14 bux a motor I'll prolly be better served just replacing it (as long as I have a supply of 14 bux motors. Those 26bux ones are murder).

Been busy with THIS the last two days and FINALLY have come up for air!

Awww.... man. A lazy day fishing turns into a lifetime of loss and regret. Why do I suspect that alcohol was involved? *Sigh*

Humans are a peculiar animal; we plan like there's no end, and we live like there's no tomorrow. Some of us are better at it than others, though...

Been building a new FRSky module (For my Taranis V 0.1) ; it's looking good, just need a telemetry RX (I have two; one is dead, and the other SAYS it does telemetry but it doesn't) to test it with.

Grrrr.

Grrrr! Trying to save $$$$ on my UMX cost me.

Had to order the proper motor as my 200K < version didn't work!

The new motor will be in, in a few days.

If that doesn't do it.....new board!

Oh well......

mnem - Comments on YT!

All - Whoa K,

I spoke with "Jeff" at Horizon Hobby and portrayed my problem with my UMX ICON A5.

I cited that I got the board wet and prolly bent my motor shaft. I advised that I replaced same (skipped the part about using the 2300 kv as it's not relative) and water tested and to no avail.

I then added that I bought the "programmer" but couldn't get it to "talk" to a PC b/c it's drivers are archaic at best.

Lastly I advised that I just bought a new board today but it states that the gyro is "off" unless turned "on" by the little programmer that no one can get to work unless it's on a decade old computer.

He was pretty cool and understood that if one dunks their board they should be able to repair same and that he would research the issue and I should hear back the latter part of the week.

In the mean time I reprogrammed my ESC and actually fooled around with settings a bit but eventually ended up on default.

Like others I swear I have a bit more power on the bench but will see what the water brings?

All the best!

b

EDIT: Muhuuuuhahahaaaaa!

I was able to use my neighbors Windoz 7 box and THIS guys great guidance and VOILA!

The AS3X board is NOW programmable! WOOT!

Interestingly enough though I spoke with H/H today and they are getting back with me.

Hmmmmm?

Thinkin' I should just dunk the new board in Corrosion X and install same.

I'll give it a few days!

All the best!

"Jeff" from Horizon Hobby called me back today and said three things:

1) They uploaded a profile for the the UMX ICON A5 so's it can be plugged into the board for those who can plug into the board.

2) He says they "think" you can massage Windoz 8 by "dropping" the drivers into the 32bit file to get the USB programmer to work. Not confirmed but I'll give it a try AND

3) I'll have a BRAND NEW UMX Icon A5 on my door step mid week next week to sooth my problems! Goodonya Horizon Hobby!

Awesome!

Hi guys, still alive and kicking. Been raining here non stop for a week, last time this happened I was still in school 39 years ago. Our floods are not in the same category of what Brian saw recently but lots of cars were washed off bridges with the resulting loss of life.
Mnem, loved your viddy and now I know what you look like. With the financial year end behind me I can now find time to do other things. We had a good year work wise, hitting all time records even in the depresssed economy. All helis are still in good working order and now it is just a matter of getting some up into the air.

mnem - Observations:

1) Shrek hands.

2) Hand carved prop is awesoome!

3) I used to have that same living room rug!

4) Is that the "Royal We" you speak of?

Great viddys and thanx for sharing!

Edmund - So glad to hear from you! Glad the economy is picking up as it seems to nearly all over the world. I need a "Decade of prosperity"!!!

All - Got screwed by the Wx yesterday (turned out NOT to be so bad) but I kept VERY busy with projects. I found yet ANOTHER leak in my travel trailer! I found it early and fixed same!
I'm getting ready to go HERE for a week and HERE right after for a week of which I hope to get a lot of ICON A5 flying in!

While working on the trailer I did the "light mod" below!

As the afternoon progressed THIS came in the mail and the proof is below!

I thought the board was bad and initially told the vendor so but apparently it wants "com 8" rather than "com 4". He was cool and offered to send me another board but I had to decline and send him my apologies!

Wx is going to be REALLY bad today so I may change some settings on my APM and do a few other inside chores!

All the best!

Hiya Kidz!

Had another GREAT day off!

Rained like h e l l all day so's I of course worked on the Taranis and enjoyed it very much!

I lifted my recliner chair up and heard an almost inaudible "plop" and under the chair was me FrSky voltage sensor! WIN!

Took me hours to understand how to use it and make the "voice" tell me when my battery is "LOW" and when it's "CRITICAL"!

No more BS timers for the BIG planes and the Quad!

Cool as all get out!!!

I saw "Robo Cop" later in the day (GREAT FLICK) and flew the UMX ICON A5 as the sun set!

If you have subscribed to my channel help yourself the piffle.

There is a surprise at the end!

All the best!!!
