Default 3 point woes

Hi Guys,

I understand the curve concepts and setup, but here's what I'm facing. Seems like no matter what I do with my curves, I get to this point; lift off and sets in ground effect, up one notch on the throtle, gets me 2-3' off the deck, up one more notch and then it's a steady climb and keeps going unless I back off. Ive tried more RPM, less RPM, more pitch, less pitch, but the results stay pretty much the same. Is this indicitive of the 3 pt curve? Anyone else suffered through this and what did you do? Hard to concentrate on coordinated turns, nose in hovering etc while I can't maintain a steady altitude without constant throtle adjustments. []

the problem is in the "notches".
I have heard of opening the transmitter & sliding a small silicone tubing over the "detent spring" .
this smooths out the throttle, this means no more notches.

I have a "Falcon 3D" transmitter I need to perform this procedure on soon.

ALL of your controls need to be constantly adjusted ... not just the collective. That's the nature of helis. Helis don't fly ... they are flown. You have to move the sticks ...
And as Harry said ... if your TX has the bumpy collective stick movement ... get rid of it either by opening the TX and mod'ing the action or get a heli TX where the action is pre-smoothed.

In flying heli's ... there is no "set it and forget it" method ... you have to constantly stir the sticks.

Welcome to the world of helis.

Hi Dave, I modded my DX6 by opening up the TX and flipping the Throttle tab over. with no detente or ratchet, I found that I am not constantly adjusting throttle up or down to try and keep a steady hover. Easy fix and I even use it for the planes too. The 3 pt curves........[sm=thumbs_down.gif]
I think that is half my issue with the HBK2 I have also, I can't seem to get the headspeed and pitch married to where they play nice together. The TREX doesn't mind the 3 pts at all. It flies very solid and with the TX mod I have no problems holding a chest high hover. Difference in price.........difference in quality!

I did the same with my old DX6 to where I just flip the plate from the back of the throttle stick.. It does make a difference to where you can feel flight smoothness.

I agree lose the detents and if your sticks are not moving you have probably crashed. You should be correcting the helis flight 100% of the time you just don't see the good pilots hands move, small corrections.

i agree that you should get rid of the ratchet feel. another thing is, and i'm not sure whether your radio has this option, is programable mixing. because you lose lift when you move the elevator or aileron stick you can mix in elevator with throttle. what this does is allows you to increase the throttle when you push forward on the elevator to start forward flight, this means you can reduce or even eliminate the requirement to increase throttle at the same time.

go through your manual and see if you have programmable mixing available.

DX6. The spring turn-around is an easy op, tried it twice already. Am going to turn it around again tomorrow and really try to stick with it.

if you think it's too loose without the ratchet you can always turn up the tension.
