ok so today i was flying my 450S in the living room, just normal hovering. i get it to about 2 or 3 feet and all of a sudden the nose goes left 90 degrees, i try to correct, then all of a sudden the heli dropped to the ground and started spinning, i broke some parts, tail boom, tail case, flybar, blade grips, landings skids, some flybar seesaw crap. i have a dx7 radio and futaba 9650, and 401 with jr ds285 cyclic. what couldve gone wrong?

sounds like something binded in the tail rotor; that's all the help i can give You Butters. Maybe the belt tension was too loose and it came off the pulley? Too tight and it binded? I don't know.
Living Room, huh. Now I feel better (I'm not brave enough to admit hovering in the living room).

This happen to me (outside ;-) ) about a week ago. I'm sure it was a glitch. I think it might of been static build-up, I lubed the belt and it's been fine since....

I purposely get the belt just a TOUCH too tight when new and after a couple of flights, it settles to the right tension. It shouldn't loosen up after that because of the fibers in the rubber.
BTW, I too just had the belt climb on the Port collar in the tail earlier today; I thought the battery was going dead.
That's when I noticed I could barely turn the rotor and noticed the belt was on the Port collar; and I saw some fraying on the outer edge of the belt. Probably wouldn't have done any harm, but replaced it anyway; and I yanked the idler pulley off as so many suggest here while I was at it.
I guess that's one thing Align didn't address in the new addition. There's not enough 'slap' to need an idler pulley anyway, IMO.
Look at Me, I'm talking like I'm a Vet or something.

which pulley? the one on the tail case side or the frame side? anyways its at the LHS, i need a new boom, flybar, feathering shaft, probably main shaft, tail case, blade grips, and some linkages on the head, i think overall itll cost about $80 with tax =/. at least ill have some spares.

LOL Gary, I hear ya! Until my crash today, mine was acting fine after ditching the idler pulley. But I do believe my boom was bent....uhmm....that didn't sound good lol!
Now I can't get it working right after replacing everything I thought was bent....

I was reading on another board about static build-up maybe affecting it. Can't verify it, but have not ha problem since I lubed it....

glitch on the dx7? i lubed the belt too. would a loose belt cause the heli to first rotate then drop?

There as been some posts about applying oil or something to the tail belt and I think more of the researched done showed that is better not to apply anything to the belt.... In my experience, I have had 140 flies, not need to use the oil and no problem at all with the tail belt so far, just my 2cts.

nevermind, the LHS put the heli back together, he told me that my back servo ds285 burned out, the elevator one, i wonder how it burned out? maybe that caused my heli to crash.

If you are a beginner flier then they will be fine. Servos on the swash do take a lot of stress and can easily strip gears and burn out in a crash if they are suddenly over loaded.

My Gosh, Butters!
Were there flames in that crash?
Can't wait to hear some good news about a full battery pack hover or something.
It will happen, My Friend.
BTW, ran 6 packs through the heli after pulling the idler pulley, and no tail incident; so maybe that was the problem; or too loose; I don't know.
I know alot of people have removed theirs. Mine's none the worse for it.
