Ive never had this problem in the past and need some insight. When adjusting my Tail servo on the boom I cant seem to get it right. in standard rate mode the tail wanders a little in both directions real slowly. it can go either way. GY401 Futaba S9650 tail servo. CNC Aluminum upgrade servo mount. My rotor blades are a little out of balance can that cause this. Its not bad in Headlock mode but there is a slight wandering which I want to get rid of. Whats A good gain setting for standard rate. Im using a spektrum DX6 AR 6000 receiver
Would appreciate any help .

you dont have to setup the rate mode. i just make sure its rock solid in heading lock. why even bother with rate mode? most people just setup in head lock mode and be done. my gain is at 67% first thing to do is get the head balance and vibration free. have you check out finless bob setup on the trex yet? you can find it at helifreak.com

I have the same setup as you but with a DX7, if the tail is wandering in HH mode then your gain is too low, increase your gain about 5% at a time until the tail starts to wag when you hover, once you achieve this remove 3-5% gain and you're dane.
Even if you resolve this I would recommend you watch all of finless bob's vids because they are an excellent way to learn to setup your heli correctly since there are some things that words can not explain as good as images

I agree with noob....you don't have to set it up in rate mode. But from my experience even if you do it will drift slightly.....HH mode is where it's supposed to be locked in solid. Watch the Finless vids on the 401. A good starting gain if using the gyro sense menu is 72%

i have the same setup, mine has a very very slight drift in HH mode, but it is only noticeable if i let it sit in a hover 3 minutes straight.
i didn't set the gyro/servo up in rate mode either...i just did the finless setup and it worked
