Hi ladies and gentlemen,
I have encountered a problem I may have had for some time but due to never pushing the envelope I never saw it. I have started getting into 3D flying, especially with my 450 (pro), whilst performing flight paterns that put huge stress on the tail which inturn stresses the gyro on the pro I notice it is rock solid with no problems(align GP780). When I try these same tricks with my 500 it goes all **** on me, it has a Futaba 401 with a align DS650 servo. I have been through the setup a few times and it make no difference. I have a DX6i so if anyone out there can help with setup on my TX I would really appreciate it.
I have tried upping the gain to 70% only to find the tail creeps left like a really slow piro.
cheers

I'd have to double check videos on heli freak but I think that one sets up the same as my JR G500T. If I'm right double check your mechanical setup. Make sure it's equal on both sides. then zero all your trims & subtrims, then go to your gyro menu on the Dx6i. (same as mine) turn gain all the way up to 100% and watch for any drift in the tail slider. if it drifts use sub trim to dial out the drift.
Then lower gain to about 65% & Check for drift in the tail when you first plug it in & after everything has intalized. if any drift, again use subtrim to dial it out. Then try flying again. That's what I had to do with my JRG500T. The older gyros set up differant from the new ones, requiers more fideling to get them right. Mine olds good now but I had the same issues. Going crazy sounds like gain is to high in idle up

What is the problem with the 401? What 3d moves are you having problems with? using the PRO vs the 500? it might be that the GY401 has less capabilities than the new GP780 gyro of align.

I never changed the subtrim on the rudder as I know it should be on 0 for a 401. I have the gain set to 62% which will put my in HH and i have the limit pot set so the slider misses either side by a bees d1ck. What happens is when you stop a fast piro it bounces back a bit now as I have stopped the creeping. When I drop vertically tail first the tail starts to swing around and causes the bird to twist. Bit hard to explain but it doesn't happen at all with the 450.

The pot is set at either 60 or 120 as there is no arrow showing which way it sits. I will know myself when I get home, I asked my wife to look at it for me. I have a DX6i.

OK set the point on the servo arm closer to the center and reset the limit pot, it is now at 110. Now I have all trims to 0 and gyro gain set to 62.
When I spool up the tail starts moving to the left standing behind it, and when you finally lift off it jumps to the left about 1/4 of a turn then the gyro grabs.
cheers

It's really strange, when I raise to 70 or so at start up the gyro boots with a flashing red light instead of steady red light and the servo buzzes.

it may not be the case, but i was having issues with one of my 401's on a 450 with an align 520 servo. i switched out my align servo with a futaba servo that i had and it went right back to normal rock solid. i originally had it paired with a 9257 and it was great. moved it to a diff heli with that align 520, and all hell went loose, dunno why, never figured it out, but when i put the 9257 back with it. it was perfectly fine again.

I am using a GY401 on one of my 450 helis... works great never failed me even on hard reverse inverted moves.. it might just really be the setup...

Good flying mate, My 450 is super stable too, I can do a tail slide from 100 feet and pull out 10 feet from the ground and nothing goes wrong. When I do the same with the 500 the tail gives out and it piros, it is very hard to save it . I have a video I will decode and put up for you to see the problem. I have checked the servo gears and tried a higher head speed and still the same. The belt is nice and tight.
go figure, just a problem heli.
If I can't fix it I will sell it and get a 600 or 700 nitro.

It the GF version not the ESP and it has belt drive tail. I spoke to one of the sponsered pro's at the Club last week and he said that Tail Slides are very hard on a heli and that 401's are known to act like that under heavy strain. I am gonna sell the 401 and get another GP780 or a spartan.
BTW it's an Align, I would bother with Clones, by the time get good electrics you would have spent the same money.

That should have a firm hold with the helis tail.. there might be somthing wrong with your setup.. I flew a GF500 ALign heli with a GY410 for sometime.. and it was holding rocksolid... Never failed me in reverse inverted flights... just dont over do the heli.. Its kinda when you force the heli to move into a stall situation.. the gyro cannot help you out... even using a Spartan...

Its like when you force to much on the heli you loose a small amount of head speed.. this is where the tail starts to fail... as the power lost make the tail twitch... Its best to do throttle management.. Thats what most 3D fliers do... they do a lot of throttle management

The GP750 is capable of handling 250 up to 700 size.. but it has to be set to the correct helis. They separated the 2 into small and large helis. 250m 450, 500 are small then 600, 700 large. the gyro light tells you wether is set to large or small heli. I can remember the correct color but if i remember correctly red means small the green is for larger helis.. check the manual to make sure...

Thanks mate, I worked it out though, I got a new JR DSX9 an upgrade from my DX6i. Due to the different way of setting gain on 6 channel recievers I was in rate mode..LOL

that seems to be the problem with the 9303 or DSX9 radio.. over the Dx7. I cannot seem to get the gyro gain within the gyro menu instead I just had to set the limits on the Gyro channel to act as the gyro gain %.
