Looks to me like there is a wire missing. There should be one that goes from the outside of where you connect the glow driver to the engine crankcase.

You just helped me spend more money...thanks a lot, lol. I have a World Models Intruder that I just completed, in which I installed a OS 91 Surpass II inverted. I can barely fit the glow plug driver on the plug because the nose wheel is in the way! This remote adapter is the perfect solution so I can not only fit it on but I don't have to fumble around trying to get it on underneath the plane. SO thanks actually for reminding me these exist. I just ordered one. Jon

You need a return path for the current. Current flows through the center pin on the adapter to the center pin on the glow plug, though the element in the glow plug to the outside of the glow plug and then to the body of the engine. You need a path back to the other side if the battery in the ignitor.

There was another thread on here where someone could not figure out why theirs wasn't working. They did not have the return wire.

Run a wire from one of the screws that hold the engine to the mount to the mounting plate on the remote unit

You don't realy need a wire providing you mount the bracket somewhere on the metal part of the motor? am I right??

MIke's gorgeous picture (ya think of doin' that stuff professionally [&:]) simply shows that the wire connects the bracket to the case. So if ya mount the bracket to the case ya don't needa no wire (in my worst Italian accent).

This is one of those questions that will probably result in me goin' DOH! But here it goes any how ...

What would the benefit be of having a "case mounted" remote glow adapter? Just wondering ...

It can be a real pain to connect to an inverted engine, so if you have the remote pointing out the side it makes it much easier - even if it IS still close to the engine

Mike,

that was a wonderful engine.....oh and i got my answer...thank you all!

Here are two pictures....

Firstly, as you can see, there is a separate lead for grounding.

Here is the grounding tab, mounted on the engines mounting screws.

Geez, the things you learn about when it's already too late. Wish I'd known that these things exist when I restored my 2T1A. Engine is upright but totally enclosed within the cowl, had a bear of a time figuring out how to power it. Ended up tearing apart an old Cox .049 plug connector (got a half-dozen of them) and used the top clip on the plug, then a wire from the engine mount bolts - both going to flat copper leads that I use alligator clips to go to the battery.

This critter would have saved me several night's sleep.

Dave

Sorry 'bout da fuzzy pic but it shows the two flat tabs I connect to, in the circle.

Kostas1, you're lucky yours has the grounding cable. Mine came today and does not. Oh well, I got suckered this time...you think these guys would sell a complete product, but perhaps mine was early in production, and they later got bad feedback, and now sell it the right way with the two cables, not just one. Kostas1, there is no need for me to post a pic because what I got IS EXACTLY what you pictured in your first post that started this thread. That is all I got, and it is the same item number. Jon

Jon,

the metal (...possibly aluminum ) tab,

is there for grounding....you can mount it under a fastening bolt on your engine mount!

I do realize that, but the point was that mine does not come with the second wire like yours does even though they supposedly are the same item. I need the extra wire, which I will add myself, to put the remote plug at a location and angle that I want.

All of the ebay ads say "for helicopters". I'm wondering if that's because the heli frames act as the ground wire. Any of the ones I've bought for airplanes had the ground wire.

That is the glow plug connector that goes through the fuse side. Very small hole rather than that huge glow plug dealio sticking through the fuse.
