Post 151 asked if glow fumes were lighter or heavier than air. It is just like gasoline - heavier. I found out the old fashioned way, used some remaining in the bottom of a jug to start an outdoor fire. When lit when "whump" just like gasoline in a spreading circle at the base of the fire but was not quite as violent as gasoling.

then I got sucked in. Went and got mine. And yes now I have created an ever growing monster with a slight variation. I found wide top airtight food jars at Target that fit in the bottom section with all the fuel tubing attached and still fit under the tool tray without cutting. Each container holds about 3/4 of a gallon. More than enought for a days flying. The boxes fit perfect with the battery in between. So know I have a dual fuel setup with two pumps. I foamed the whole thing in and can now swop out containers depending on what I'm flying that day: i.e., glow and gas, glow and smoke, 5% glow and 30% glow. It's working out great.

Got a question for you guys,
Is it safe to put a container of gas (not nitro) in one of these boxes, I'm just concerned about vapors. If I were to put one in, do think drilling exhaust holes would eliminate any possible danger?
Thanks,
Justin

Justin, I use gas in mine. but I have airtight containers and I don't leave the two boxes stacked at home so the bottom box with the fuel in it can breath through the hole under the handle. I am not a fan of letting fumes build up. So if I smell any gas, I make sure everything gets vented and aired out. Better safe than sorry.

Hi guys! I just found the ULTIMATE in fuel containers for the flightbox from hell! Got it at Target (did a little shopping during the mall show!!
). It is meant for storing drinking water in the fridge. It is made by Rubbermaid and it holds 1.25 gallons so when you open a new gallon and still have a little left in the bottom, it will not overflow! It fits in the bottom of the bottom compartment and sits on top of TWO gel cels (they are on their side) It fits perfectly snugly! I just plugged the spigot end w/ leftover PVC Gremlin fuselage, and used the plastic (fourmost?) firewall fittings to attach the fuel lines! I use two fuel dots (one vent, one fuel) on the outside of the box for fueling! WORKS GREAT!!! Best flight box ever!!!!!
Will post pictures if there is any interest!

o.k. here goes! back of tool box. you can see the two fuel dots (one vent, one fill/empty) and the Cermark power panel (this baby does it all: fuel pump control (fill/empty), glow igniter, starter, TX and RX battery pack voltmeter, TX and RX pack charger, remote glow charger, and you can plug your 12V gel cell charger w/ banana plugs into the 12V starter jack to charge the on-board gel-cells! I love this power panel and it is reasonably priced!

here is the inside of the bottom compartment with the tray removed. you can see the power panel, fuel tank, fuel pump and plumbing. the two gel-cells are on their side, under the fuel cell. I use the brass-geared fuel pump from Hobby Lobby as I have gone through one or two of the "cheapies" every season since I started flying! The Hobby-Lobby one is only $17.00 and is supposed to last and last and last... (the jury is still out as it is brand new, but I like it so far!)

And here is the fuel cell! It has a nice, big cap for filling! If you look real close, you can see the white plug on the lower left corner. When you buy this container, it has a spigot that is supposed to hang over the edge of the shelf in the fridge so you can fill your water glass directly from it. I took the spigot off and cut a round disk of scrap PVC and screwed the cap over this to seal the spigot hole (hope that made sense!).

With the fuel cell removed, you can see the two 12V 7ah gell-cells on their sides. If you look real close at the middle of the back of the power panel and then look down to the bottom of the box, you will see a little white hole. I drilled four holes in the little "trough" behind the wheels' axle that is directly beneath the fuel pump so if it happens to leak it will drain and not soak the batteries.

Here is a close-up of the Cermark Power Panel Plus! I love this thing!!!
Hope you all can find one of these Rubbermaid doohickies at your local Wal-Mart or Target! I looked long and hard to find the right thing and this appears to be it! I did not want to hack up the B & D box as it was so nice!!!
Good luck all and enjoy your "flight boxes from Hell!!"

Must say that is a pretty awesome setup. Like the idea of the fuel dots and the Cermark control panel. I may do some mods to my box and try to find a Cermark C/P. Also like the looks of the fuel tank. I am using one of the short sizes of a clorox bleach bottle and it is alittle tall.
Again, THANKS for the info.

astrohog: Thanks this is just what I needed. I have the little red gasoline container, but you can't see through it, the opening to fill is small. I really never wanted to put it in anyway.
Just an FYI to all of you that are looking for this container. I found one at walmart since Target had only the 2 gal container...hmmm...maybe 2 gallons would be better. I have had the tool box for almost 6 months now, and am glad I waited to put in the fuel cell this will work perfectly.....

Arrrgh!
I just hacked out the wheel in my box last week to fit my red gas can. But, I think I'll get one of those see through containers anyway. Beats lifting the can to feel how much fuel is left. Nice job astrohog.
