Okay, mine came as one piece and now I don't know what to do. Since I have fixed them so I can mount the wheelpants to the plane and hopfully mount the landinggear first. I can't manage to understand what the use for that thing.

The strutmount then that should also have an HOLE FOR #2 BTN. HEAD SCREW

After I glued the 2 halves together, mine was in one piece also. The plans show where to cut off the front piece, like the picture above shows, so you end up with a smaller front piece and a larger back piece. You then need to glue 2 pieces of 1/8" plywood to the inside of the smaller front piece, 1 on each side. The plywood strips are 1/2 x 2 1/4 x 1/8. The plywood overlaps into the back piece when the 2 parts are put back together. The #2 screws are used to attach them together, 2 screws on each side. I've attached pictures to show the mounting bracket under the wing where the legs get attached to. Take another look at the plans and at my pictures. If you're still not sure how to proceed, I'll try and explain further and take some more pictures.
Good luck, this is one of the trickier parts of the kit but I know you can figure it out.

As I can see is that you have the updated version of the Gee Bee. So I think that I have to wait until I have manage to bend the music wire.

Still can't see the use of that being divided in two. I don't have any problem making my wheelpants divided but there will only be more screws to manage. I have two screws that holds the lower wheelpants and those screws are only accesseble from the top wheelpants and the hole thing are then screwed with three screws two in front and one in the back.

Hey Gang,
Landing update. I made 3 good landings in a row today. I haven't flown my Gee Bee since last month because of all the rain we've had. Today was a great day with the grass dry and the wind out of the West at 10 MPH. The first flight ended with the plane bouncing and landing on its nose. The next 3 were great, a little bouncy but they all ended with the plane upright. I feel I'm getting the hang of it. Adrian was right, a good headwind and shorter grass will improve the landings.

Why couldn't you have that rain there because now we have it! :D No just kidding. The weather is rainy sometimes and high summer the next time.

I started to airbrush the engine cover but I'm 100% pleased with it. The paint is a little like rubber and I got some dust in it. I shall start to airbrush the top wheel pant so there are some sanding and spray plaster to apply first.

Haven't got my K&S Mighty bender yet so the landing gears hasn't been started on yet. This night I manage to think out why the top wheel pants shall be in two pieces but this morning that thought is lost.

Finally I have bought the Mighty bender and coil winder and made my landing gear. Now I know why I have to divide my wheel pants into two pieces (top wheelpant). I'm going to use M2 screw's instead of those special M1.6 screw's that #2 is.

Problem like always with me is that the L. gear cross brace is to be mounted somewhere in the plane or opposite landing gear but I don't know and I haven't found any information elsewhere. Maybe Adrian can reply on this question or someone else?

Any other things happend to our's projects?

It's good to see this thread still alive.
I've resumed with the building of the Gee Bee. I stripped the Coverite from it and was going to give SolarTex a try.
Mike, did you cover the wing fillets with covering or just paint them? What did you end up using for flying wires?
Jacs, it looks like we are at the same stage of construction now. Since I'm stripping all the covering off, I can now show any details of construction that you wish to see.

Nice to see that we could continue our progress with this thread. I have manage to bend my landinggear and mount them on the loose, shall make a wood device that I'll use too screw the landinggear in place. My painting has been done with white solartex mainly with good result with humbrol paint and airbrush. Still have to sand down the sprayplaster that I put on the plastic parts. Also found a doll that I pulled the head of and my both girls could continue play with the doll. The problem is that I can't find any dull paint from Humbrol just gloss paint. The engine I had to this project is now mounted in another plane that I will teach my 6 year old daughter how to fly next year so I'm in the progress to find a Saito 72 (the same that GBZFlyer has) but here in Sweden it cost $390 but in the states only $235.

Can't find any supplier here in Sweden that has the F1 filling device yet only Dubro's strange filling devices but the search is on.

Have you covered yours? And if you have, did you cover the wing fillet or just paint it?

I'm not too sure what you're referring to as a filling device. If it's a fuel filler, I've been using fuel dots. Dubro makes some nice and simple plastic ones.

As far as a flattenner for paints, you can use talc and a bit of reducer to reduce the gloss of about any paint.

I covered the wood part of the wing fillet with Solartex. I used epoxy and micro balloons to transition between the covered and front plastic wing fillets. I then primed and painted the front plastic wing fillet parts black as I painted the Solartex.
I used some silver elastic cord that I found at Hobby Lobby for the flying wires. They are just for looks.

I'll start to cover my plane soon with solartex white and I think that I'll make a try to cover the wing fillet with solartex also but that is a try yet.

Why did you have to rip of your covering that you made?
For the flattener thing can I use talc and my tiny airbrush (0.3mm) and not clog my brush?

The filling device I found out the www.slimlineproducts.com has them and I found a company in England who sells them but the shipping is very expensive from there. I was planning on using the hole that the top plug shall be (at least on my drawing there is a plug on top of the fuselage) but some says and the information that slimline has on their homepage say that the fueler device is not good to have if below the fuel tank position. But they have an option to use the filling tube and plug another with a t-tube on the exhaust tube the retrieve the excess

I think I'll use the same method to paint my fillets, but I believe I'll use a catalyzed primer to fill the seam. I tried using spray cans but the build up is insufficient and it takes too long to dry.
I've balked at the elastic flying wires but after trying a few various methods, wire and kevlar, I think I'll go with elastic.
What prop did you use on the .72?

I removed the Coverite because I wasn't satisfied with the surface. After I tried to cover the seams and did a little sanding I ended up going through in a few places because of high spots. I removed the covering and did some more sanding and now I will cover it with yellow SolarTex.
As far as the fuel filler goes, I'm a beliver in simple is the best. I'll probably run the fuel filler tube to the bottom of the cowl and use a dubro plastic plug. I've used them before with good results.
As far as the talc in the paint, I use to work in the Automotive paint business and talc is a basic flattener. Just make sure it's mixed with the proper amount of reducer. The talc was mixed with a clear and this mixture was added to the color. It also can be added to the clear.

I'll try to add some talc to the humbrol paint but right now I have some thinner added so the paint is right for my brush. Need to add some more thinner if I'm going to add talc right?

It's nice to get this kind of answers back since I haven't found any answers on www.airbrush.com/forums/ about this.

I'd mix the talc with some clear. You'll have to experiment with the mix to achieve the flatness you desire. You'll also have to additionally reduce the mixture to provide the sprayability you seek.
In the auto paint lines I worked with the mixture was talc and a binder. This was added to the clear or the color to achieve the flatness.
All of the colors were formulas that we would follow to mix. If the mix does clog the tip, just run some reducer through the airbrush and add more reducer to the flattener.
What is this flat paint for?

Problem is that my shop don't have all color selection available.

I'll paint the color on the plane not using a mix of yellow red and black solartex instead I apply white solartex on the hole plane and paint it in that color scheme, apply the stickers and a couple of Plastic Paddings Clear Coat spray.

To hide seams on coverite.......I use baby powder and dope to make putty and apply a generous layer....it sands very nicely..seams become non existent...

Wasn't there a construction article on your Gee Bee Z in a old RC magazine? Would that possibly help PigHeaded with his instruction problem if he could find a copy?

Yes there was. The August 98 issue of RCM has all the instructions. I think they used to have it in the archives on their website. You could certainly ask if they would send you a reprint or a back issue. You'll have a hard time finding a nicer group of people to deal with. I'm sure they would be happy to help.

I don't think that I shall tell which problem I had with RCM, deliver drawing and instruction they can after sending it three times but they can't send their magazine correct.
