Well its underway:D but a long-way to go yet'
25W X 40L X 10-14 Height and 75% dedicated to Building RC and gnrl shop use.
I hired a Dallas area contractor to erect the frame and hang the 3 doors so it would be square and plumb, but after he threw it up in the rough he's never been back to finish.[:@] So I'm out some cash and finishing it myself as the weather improves.

I plan on full insultation and filtered ventilation, dedicated 24Hr timer circuit for charging, Secondary solar / battery supplied low voltage lighting and radio circuits, pedestal and swing arm style support stands, roller and multi-top assembly tables and benches.
Pass-thru opening for exterior engine testing, the size opening will be apx 12"X12" and lockable from inside. High vent fan will be in end wall for painting and oderous - noxious fume removal............. But overall a comfortable work area to finally get serious about building, re-building and restoring 70's kits and designs that I enjoy........Dan Z

Wornboots that looks good so far. I would use lots of insulation because electricity etc. is going to go much higher in the future. Sometimes I find things for my shop at yard sales, going out of business sales and etc. It seems for me the main thing is a very good work table and I would like one of the steel top with magnet clamping jigs. Now all I'm using is a regular folding table, office des, and old kitchen table. Under table storage is also important so you won't have to go and get tools all the time.

Sorry but I just now read your first post about Future Plans and Pretrend, I've been working backwards reading all the ideas and looking at some real nice work areas and shops. But its not 'Future" its just no finished yet, But I do admit to walking around inside it to 'Prentend' I'm working a new bird..

Thanks and your invited to the Topping-Off party........
I was looking at an auction site awhile back for school and county liquidations, they had S-Steel tables going cheep and thought they were a very good deal. But never thought about the magnetic aspect, but you're right' having a good mag-system of clamps and supports would be nice.

Have been in hobby since 1986, and just now getting my own shop finished. The trick I think is to have planes all over the house until the wife screams, "This is not a hangar". First 3 pics of converted bedroom.

Pub - that reminds me of all the planes that I built when I was younger still at home with my parents. Long, long time ago. The plane looks great! Goes to show that very careful craftsmanship and a simple setup can produce as good or better quality than a blown out shop.

Keep up the good work!!!

I've been flying for 2 years now, building planes in the spare bedroom of our 3 bedroom house. Last year brought my new daughter home, so now every time a visitor comes, I had to clean up the "plane room" for them to sleep in. Really bugged me!

Our house is a former lightkeepers residence, and it was once kinda hard to get to, despite being only about 10 miles out of the city. In the '60's when the Coast Guard built it, it was standard to build a cistern in the basement, to collect roof water for non-potable use. Basically, a concrete room about 7.5'x20' with a 6'6" concrete ceiling, all heavily rebarred. The previous owner used a hilti-hammer to blow a doorway thru the cistern's 14" reinforced concrete wall, making a storage room. So it has been for all the time we have lived here.

The last visitors we had were our friends, and their new baby. Way to cramped in our plane room, so the move to the cistern began!

Bought some wood and concrete anchors, planning some better lighting yet (a few flourescent strips should do it!), still gotta run some power in there, but the basics are done! Classic hollow core door on sawhorses for a building table, enough storage for the current fleet, and a good batch of shelving (more to come here, too!). The bulk of my crap is there now, and I'm liking it. I really need some posters on the walls, very grey in there right now....

Now, the photos...

Just finished mine this past fall. It's great to finally have a dedicated space again to build and store stuff so I can get at it.

Some before and after pics....

Sean, you have it going on there I like your layout. I saved the picture of the cabinet that stored the balsa and covering, etc. and I may decide to build one like it.

Thanks Buzz...I had some empty space behind the door and it seemed like the perfect spot for a set of deep shelves. I opened up the top on the side to serve as a spot for books. It's really nice to have two spaces. One is the workshop that I can close the door too, and the other is just for plane storage. A 'clean room' of sorts. While it doesn't stay totally clean, it's a lot better than keeping the models right where I'm sanding, etc.

Hi guys, Just trying to set up some work benches but what I would like is some that will fold away onto the wall of the garage when needed. Can't really think of a way to hinge the bench and still have enough strength. Anyone got any suggestions? or pics of what you have done.

I have other projects in my hangar for the moment but after the attatched garages are finished, this detatched will be for strictly RC. Its almost finished now. AC will get hooked up in a week. The heat will be plumbed this fall. 1000 watts of spekers running 4 12" subs in every corner enclosed in Infinity towers. 2x6 walls. 12' ceiling. 2 10 x 10 doors. Fridge for beer.
