The plastic piece is a spur gear, and the metal piece, and the little pegs that go into the spur gear are part of the slipper clutch.

spur gear. when you get the new one, fill all the holes with the slipper pegs (orange things) it will help keep that from happening again.

Robinson Racing has a slipper kit that won't melt like the one you have, it will last you long time!. The slipper kit comes with a hardened steel outer spur gear 72T which I use myself. Theres one kit with an outer steel gear and one with an outer plastic gear, you can buy replacement pads also. Forgot to mention these slipper kits are designed to slip if so desired.

you can change the spur teeth # without changing clutchbell. DO NOT get a steel spur gear. even ask Traxxas a spur gear is made to be the "weakest" link in the chain, if something was going to happen it would damage the spur gear. if you get a steel spur gear then the damage will be transfered into the transmission or the differentials. a spur gear is $4 why get a steel and risk damaging more??

I run a steel spur on my revo and i love it. I will never buy a spur gear again and I have the picco .26 maxx. Hasnt broke anything yet and I gaurantee you I would have atleast bought atleast one spur gear for it by now if i didnt go metal. And not because I cant line up the mesh.

In the long run I see it saving me time and $$.

Purchasing a steel spur gear can be risky if gear mesh is lose or too tight. This past week my CB e-clip came off the motor shaft and my CB kept trying to slide off and everytime my hardened RR steel spur gear kept slaming the CB back hard. My CB was severely messed up, but my steel spur gear had no visable marks or damage. I use the stock Traxxas CB which is not hardened steel like the spur gear is, the CB is my weak point. Although I am going to be using RR's plastic spur gear because I got lucky that something else wasn't damaged! You must always have a weak/breaking point somewhere is your drivetrain!
