Yep, Sportster wing. I basically flipped the fuselage, but extended it by 8".

Progress has been a bit slow, but things are taking shape. I've been working on the "stock" Super Sportster, and here's a couple of photos of that. First is a comparison between the kit fuselage, and what I dreamed up. The second shows how I'm making the hood top. It's 1/32" plywood, wetted down with Windex, and rolled over a form. It's been wrapped like that for a week now, so it should hold the shape.

Now, onto the wings! First, I built a fairing for the top of the wing to blend into the top of the fuselage, locator dowels and hold-down screws in place. Next, a shot of the bottom of the wing with all the servos in place. Onto the covering job, with the dreaded wingtips! I chose to use red Monokote on the bottom, and yellow Monokote on top. The tips came out much better than I had hoped. It just took a lot of heat, stretching, and pulling. Finally, on to the fuel tank plumbing and engine mounts. We're getting close to the end now!

Well, time got away from me! I finished the fuel tank plumbing and engine hook-up work, and here's the result.

Finally got the plane all done and covered, and when I went to balance it, I took something like 16 oz. of lead in the nose to get it right, and the plane weighed 10 lb., 4 oz.! Remember all that spray foam I filled the rear fuselage with? Well, I cut the top of the fuse open and dug all the foam out and weighed it, 12 oz.! I wouldn't have thought it was that much. So, with the foam out of it, and only a little lead in the nose, we're at just over 9 lbs. now, and that should work pretty well.

All in all, it was a fun build, and only took a bit of head scratching to figure out. I hope to get it in the air sometime this summer, wish me luck!

Oh, the Duellist is the next twin going on the board, and this was practice for that.

Hi Paul,

Just follow the link to Davis Diesel Development, and you'll see a listing of what they still produce. I currently have these two for the FP40s, plus one for a Super Tigre S90K, and one for a K & B .45.

Well......, It is the middle of summer and still waiting on that first flight. The plane looks real nice. I'll be waiting on that first flight report.
