Duellist First Flight!

Finally I have flown my Duellist.Started building this bird in August '01. I had this crazy idea to cover it in glass and paint it which turned out to be more work than I was ready for but it turned out to be a great plane.
According to my "fish scale" it weighs 10.5 pounds. Powered by TT Pro 46s and a few Futaba servos stuffed inside. Hobbico mechanical mains and Robart on the nose. I have flaps set up but was too nervous to use them on the first flight...really didn't need them! We had strong winds here this weekend.
The engine nacelles are moved in one rib and the engines are not offset. It was too late for me to "zero" any of the flying surfaces but am glad I was able to modify the nacelles.
That's all I can think of for now...exciting!!

I was really surprised at the weight. Gonna have to get a second opinion with another scale. Was expecting closer to 12 but am in no way unhappy with the 10.5. [8D]
I used your setup for the flap servo so thanks for taking the time to post the pics of yours!

While I'm not a fan of moving the nacelles inboard, I do applaud you for actually SANDING/SHAPING your nacelles!!! Good show. So many Duellists you see have hideous, square cross section nacelles. Yours is very clean and tastefully done.

Congratulations on your first flight. You did great coming out at 10.5 pounds. Looks good, too.
Did you set your engines at zero to the fuselage, or zero to the wing and stab?
Bill.

To be honest I have no idea what they are zero'd to...[sm=confused.gif]
They were built per the plans until about a month ago when I finally got around to installing the engines. I then found out that while it was sitting around for so long the space between the spinner backplate and front of the nacelle had grown to over 1/4 inch, and there was not enough space between the back of the engine and motor mount to run fuel line! Some strange things going on in my garage??
So I chopped off the existing nacelles at the firewall and made them square with the nacelle former that is against the leading edge of the wing. Guess I would have to assume that they are zero to the wing? Not sure. [8D]
It flies like it's on rails. Inverted flight requires just a little forward stick...which is pretty normal in that attitude. As far as speed....turnin' and burnin' baby!!
