Throttle-cut on twins

Several questions have been asked in the past about throttle-cut of both engines on a twin.

Haven’t tried it yet but here is a direct quote from Don Edelberg’s book about programming the Futaba 8 channel radios.
“Interestingly we can use Throttle ‡ Needle function for this … , since TH-NDL slaves the second engine’s throttle servo to the first. Also, the engine kill function affects both CH3 and 8.”

In the example CH8 is being used for the second engine.

Incidentally using either the gear or flap channel for #2 engine always seems to give me trouble. Seems like #5 and # 6 channels require a lot of other illogical changes.

There is a clever method of using another mix to turn the knobs off which can also be used to reduce the effect of the knob to a small amount.

If you have a 9C, you can mix the slider to the second engines channel at 20% them do a pmix with the second engines channel as slave and channel 3 as master at 100%. Then you can control the second engine with the throttle and the slider as a fine adjust for the throttle of the second engine.

Thanks. I have the 8UAP Super and the luxury you mention doesn’t seem to exist. However I used another mix and mixed CH7 - > CH7 at –80% and –80% and believe the same result was achieved.

Hope the following information will help someone else avoid problems.

I have now spent the better part of half a day partially because the book appears to be incorrect and my own lack of knowledge only to discover offset was being set incorrectly. Ch7 offset needs to be set at throttle stick setting of 50% instead of zero. Setting the offset with throttle at low throttle (zero) always resulted in a dead spot somewhere in #2 throttle. The dead spot can be removed with a number of other ATV settings but it is certainly not the correct method.

I look forward to purchasing new radios as soon as but not until the ‘antiquated close pin frequency and hope no one turns on’ problem is resolved.

I agree,
More should be published for the set-up and programing of twin engine planes.
I have helped several people and a lot comes from trying to understand what you want the TX to do then to figure out how to program it to do it.

Guys,

I am not try promote with this post but chek out the following thread and you will see why this can not be solved through programming:

One other note to let you know that I am thinking about the same thing you are....

On my jet I am mixing smoke with brakes on a Futaba 9C. I am using multiple P-mixes and offset mixes to do this so that I can only turn on smoke when gear are up and if I land with smoke ON I have no brakes. Offsets are added and P-mixes are never cancelled.

So setting up multiple mixes just adds them together. There is not an override to move a servo to a certain position that I have seen with a Futaba radio.

(Don't get me wrong though -- I have only recomended Futaba for the last 30 yrs!!!)

I think I saw your unit a while back.
Your unit sets up a constant velocity between two units.
It is great but I don't think that is what he was talking about.
If you are not the guy the OK.
