RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
I also have A TF Cessna 310 still NIB. Shame they discontinued them. The P-61 will be my first venture into twin aircraft, from the post I've read it flies nice. Still dreading the engine out scenario!I did successfully get the gear doors on & working, next I'll have to pressurize the system and see how it works.[sm=teeth_smile.gif]

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Not to worry about the engine out..... I've had it happen a couple of times and if you just throttle back some on the good engine she flies pretty much regular but of course with less authority. no high banking turns on one engine. The 310 is also pretty manageable on one engine so long as you have some speed built up first.
By the way, I too have a 310 still new in the box. Picked it up when I had a wing crack on me on a less than perfect landing. Ended up repairing the wing and so the replacement kit is still siting in my shed in it's original box although I did get so far as to hinge the flaps and elevators.

Did not intentionally ignore your post, yes I do have an Aerodyne Baron coming.According to what I was told it should be shipping tomorrow!! I figured the P-61 was a safer airplane to start with. I also have a H9 P-47 150 NIB. I think you & I have common interest in aircraft. I picked up a P-6E last year from RCU that I think you were also interested in. Very nicely done & worth the price!

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Well, sad day at the field this weekend... []
My beloved P-61 got pretty badly tore up on a rough landing. Took her up for the first flight of the season and she was acting very touchy on the elevator. Wanted to climb badly, so I set up for a landing to bring her in and adjust elevator linkage and when I dropped flaps, she wantd to dive a lot, so I put flaps back up and she still wanted to dive. At that point I decided to bring her in without flaps and set up for a slightly hot landing. She looked good right up until touchdown. She touched down on mains, and when the nose gear touched down, it dug in and tore the whole front section of the center gondola right off the plane.
The autopsy points to one of two things. The landing was in a very wet/muddy part of our filed and either the mud grabed the nose gear, or the nose wheel came off on landing and the strut dug into the ground and tore the nose of the plane off. Either way, I'm going to be looking for a new gondola to repair her if I can oder one for Hobby People.
The final analysis of the elevator problem turned out to be a stripped gear on the elevator servo....[:'(] That's what I get for not going with a metal gear servo on the elevator. Live and learn.

Sorry to hear about your plane, sure hope you can get the parts. Hobby People are usually pretty good about things like that. I haven't gotten to fly mine this year, weather here in Montana hasn't been that good. I have a KMP BF 110 ready to test fly and am very nervous, hope it flys half as good as the P 61. Let us know if and when you get your parts.

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Got reply from Hobby people...... Parts no longer available.[] Looks like I'm on my own on this one.
Took a look at the damage last night and although it looks like a 100 piece puzzel, I think I have most of the wood pieces and can probably glue the wood formers back together or use the pieces as a template to cut new ones. The plastic fuselage though is going to be a little more challenging. Will take a lot of fiberglasing to patch it up into something that resembles a P-61.[:@]

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
I managed to salvage and epoxy together enough pieces of the broken formers so that I could trace new ones onto 1/8" balsa. Have a couple of them cut out already and they look like they'll do the job even better than the originals. Pushing hard to finish up my H9 150 size mustang and then I should be able to focus more on getting the P-61 rebuilt. Hopeing to have both birds ready for Warbirds over Delaware second weekend of July.

I would suggest lap in some fiberglass and epoxy (thinned out) if you have access. If necessary in time, you may have to do a refinish, and it will be reinforced for sanding.

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
I have one of these kits complete in perfect condition. The person I got it fromstarted it (he installed some servos, linkages, the flight surfacehinges, rudders, and motor mounts) then lost intrest or needed money.I was thinking of finishing the build but I have a Wing Mfg. P-38 short kit to finish and could use the cash to bling it up. If anyone wants to make me an offer
or wants more infoI will post pictures . The kit listed for around $470.00 new from hobby people. I will only sell the kit not the installedservos and will work out the shipping with any interested parties.
Thanks

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Well, just got the kit from Yoseph and I should have her back up and runing by Monday. All I have to do is rebuild the gondola section and she's good to go. Thanks Yoseph. Hope to have her ready for Delaware next weekend.

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Am quiting the hobby and have the retracts for the ASM P-61 for sale....Both booms cracked on a meduim hard landing...Booms not repairable,so ASM doesn't have any spare parts for the P-61, so I do have some spare parts for the plane ,just in case you need em...The main gears retracts are spot welding by a friend of mine...the original weld broke on the sixth flight, so both main and front gears(Front nose gear didn't break) are in excellent condition....

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Well, good weekend flying my rebuilt P-61 at Warbirds over Delaware. After bustin my a__ getting the center Gondola rebuilt in one weekend from a kit I bought here on RCU, I was able to take my rebuilt P-61 to WOD and get a flight in on Saturday after the rain cleared out. Might even make the WOD video..... Friday was a little too windy for me with gusts up around 20+mph. Anyway, it's nice to have her back and flying again.

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Hey Guys
I flew my p61 last week and when I was cleaning it up after flying, I noticrd that it was cracked below and behind each rear cowl. The plastic is very thin, looks like tissue paper. I don't know what has caused this. I don't rember the plastic being that thin when I was putting it together. There was some raw fuel in the area, could that be the culpret? I will probably have to take it apart and glass the inside of the nacells. That will be a royal pain in the drain. Anyone elsse having this problem?

Yeah... I already glassed the area where the firewall meets the plastic boom on each boom section. I didn't bother to take it apart, I just glassed the outside and covered it over with black covering. Looks real stand off scale now.....

The P61 is my favorite airplane so I would really like to keep mine nice. I have not been into the nacells to see what is in there. Do you think there is any danger flying it like that?
Thanks

RE: ASM P-61 kit Build
Just and FYI.... I was having trouble triming the elevator on my plane. One time it would want to climb, and the next time it would dive. No matter I set the trim, the plane wouldn't hold elevator trim in flight. After inspection on the ground, I realized that the two screws that attach the horizontal stabilizer to the vertical stabilizers on each boom had loosened and that was allowing the horizontal stabilizer to pivot just enough to cause in flight instability. Once I tightened up the screws, the problem disapeared and I was able to trim her out and get more relaxing stable reponse from the elevator.
So check those horizontal stabilizer attachment screws folks!![:@][:@]
