Dear Bill:
What a great looking model, and my hat is off to you for building a model of that complexity. I know well the work that you did to build that model, and the effort sure shows.
I've a Super G Connie Kysho U-C model kit of the same vintage as the DC-6B...would you like that model ?
Let me know, for you are a builder of great skill and the Connie is another Airliner.
Soft landings always,
Bobby of Maui

Hay Bill;
I've loved airliners all my life, and considered building more. I would love plans or a kit in the 100" range. There is a Connie at 134", a Don Smith plan, but just to big for me. Also Don Smith's model will need four .60's to fly, and I seek models in a smaller scale. I do not know of any smaller kits or plans for airliners other then the DC-3, and though a great airliner, it's been well modeled over the years, with no other airliners being drawn up or kitted that I know of. !00" wing span would give you .20 to .40 power options and just big enough to have a good wing, and small enough to fit into my VW Bus hobby mobile. I've a DC-3 kit to build and a sport multi I am building now...god I love the sound of multi glow engines turning.
By the way did you do the honors on the first flight of your beautiful DC-6B, and if you did...were your knee's knocking much...
A great looking model and please post more pictures, maybe a little larger in size, and with landing gear up, and down. By the way did you install wing flaps?
My best always,
Bob Paris

Beardking,
I no longer have the model, the fellow at EAM has it and has plans to convert it to electric power. I would love to see such a project fly, I think it would be a great use of electric motors. The TU4 project (B-29 copy) of George Mairana's flies very well on e power. My plan is to fly the Convair on electic too, we'll see how that works out.
Here is a shot of if next to a Royal DC3 for size reference.

ps2727.......Nice job on the DC-6.....what was(is) the wing span and how much did(does) it weigh.....mines 75" WS and right now looking at about 9.5 to 10 lbs.......its a converted CL model...needing a number of mods for compatability.....BOB P....My plane isn't done yet...that is the picture of ps2727's "6"......by the way I have a complete Don Smith "Connie" I will start on after I finish up the DC-6.......Bill....

Guys, thanks for the good words on my project.
It was 1/16 scale with 86 in span, weight was 18 lbs
My first attempt at fiberglass moldings which came out heavier than they should have. Learned a bunch and many thanks to Butch Sickels the fiberglass master for his help.
These transports make good flying models and I hope to see many more at the flying field. Good luck to all who make the effort I think you'll like the results.

Hey that really looks great! I recently aquired the kyosho cl kit still in the box and was also thinking of converting to rc. what kind of changes were necessary for rc conversion? any info would be great. well, keep up the good work.

Kendosan,
My model was scratchbuilt from my own drawings. There is another poster, warbirdz who is converting the kit you have. I'm not familiar with that kit but I think its a little smaller than mine. Should make a good r/c plane.
Thanks for the kudos.

Warbirdz1.........thanks for the info...i was wondering if you are going to use the original aluminum engine cowls or switch to something more custom to reduce drag...also, did you cut all new parts or use original wood? plane looks great....keep posting those pics.

Ken....I used what was good and replaced wood that I felt was unusable.....going to use aluminum cowls.....should not be an issue with drag.......spent alot of time with the fullscale "6"... there were 2 types of eng. cowls....the better of the two with "spinners" were good for about 20-25 knots in cruise......Bill.....

The DC-6s in this thread are awesome. I would love to build an RC version. I currently have a Kyosho C-124 Globemaster control line kit that I get out of the closet now and then and think of how to construct it to suite my RC needs. There are certainly some challenges but I should be able to pull it off. I went and copied the plans the other night to save the originals from harm. I know that some of the bullet-proof balsa will have to be switched out and that I am going to have to keep the project as light as I can. I purchased 4 AP Yellow Jacket .15 engines for power and am hoping those will be enough to drag her around the sky when I am finished. I have about convinced myself to go with fixed gear to save on weight and complexity (one less thing to worry about). However, I am a scale kind of guy and hate the thought of the gear not retracting. I may decide differently when I actually begin to make hard decisions about this project. Maybe some Spring Airs won't add too many problems. Anyway, I want to have the clamshell doors open in front and have a ramp that I can carry around a plastic military vehicle kit of some type but that decision would be made as I weighed the aircraft along and throughout the construction sequence. I am fairly new to the multiple engine side of things so I have a lot of learning to do prior to getting this project on the bench. I only horn in on this thread because I think much of what is being discussed here is applicable to my project. Anyone out there ever build one of these? Any suggestions I might be able to file away for this project? razorback11

globe master
1 replace all plywood formers aft of the wing with balsa ply.laminate 2 sheets of 1/16 balsa with grain 45 degress to each other ca or poly u glue .
2 same with wing ply ribs
3 add 2.5 degrees washout
4use lite wheels
max weight about 7.5 pounds so on this size you may need to forget retracts
5 check fuel tank location you may have to build your own to fit not much room in the nacelle or one fuel tank in fuse feeding all four engines with pumps.
