You do not specify which one you want to order.
The VQ can be had from Morris Hobbies, The KMP from Kondor Model Products.
A quick web search will give you their URLs.
Bill.

Grahamd1, thanks for the information I've checked out the website, it's good to see that the P38 is available and 374 quid isn't asking much for what you get. As for it's flying attributes I will wait till crashnburnin gets his hands on one and I'll wait to hear if the flying experience is as enthralling to him as the pretty picture was. I am pretty sure he will only be too pleased to let us all know how well she flies.

With all the hullabaloo over the ARF P-38's coming down the line, and all the price increases over the first advertised price...I opted to buy the profile u-build kit from Great Planes. I've yet to even here that one has flown successfully and at $500~$1100 U.S. bucks a pop...that $99.00 kit look to good to pass up. I've one ordered now.

HI:
Just so everyones clear on the price increase....... the original price was without retracts. The new price (100.00) more includes a complete set of three air retracts with the air tank, lines and valves. (189.00 or more value).
Its well worth the difference.

Still flying by the race track on Maui??
I tried it there and found wind, short field, and fences a real tough challenge.
Bobby, if you are flying there you can fly anywhere.

Gentlemen:
Repeating myself, I just can't see the VQ P-38, the KMP is less than 1/2 the price, considering the retracts, and the scale errors don't cost the $500 difference to fix.
Go for the KMP.
Bill.
PS: Andrew, here's another plug. Haw. wr.

Dear AKondor;
You e-mailed me about the cost of the P-38 months ago when I first showed interest in the kit...the price was $375.00 to $450.00 including pneumatic retracts.
I do not need retracts...I need a $400.00 ARF kit or less for the P-38...
As far as VQ...I best say...no comment...
Until then I will keep building away with my kits, and until things get more reasonable...I'll just keep on dreaming...

Dear Hal;
Yes I still do fly here on Maui...and the winds are something to believe. We still fly out of the WW-II Marine Corsair revetment area...You need some kind of wavo's to fly some times. So we all have our knock around model trainer to wreck when the winds are up.

A member of my club bought and built a VQ P-38. The first flight lasted 58 seconds. The airplane got slow in a turn, snapped, and spun in. The full scale P-38 was always prone to snapping at low speed (killed the number two American ace by snapping at low altitude) and the scale wing tips aren't going to make the situation any better.

How did he manage get into a slow turn? Did he loose an engine, was it underpowered. Or was it that ,after 58 seconds he realised something was not quite right and was trying to bring it in.

The P-38 was powered by two well broken in O.S. 91 four strokes. Both engines were running and he was trying to trim the airplane when the snaps occured. He said that the plane snapped right and he was able to recover it but then it immediately snapped left and went in. As one observer put it, the airplane started out the flight moving like a scalded cat. After three trips across the field, the pilot slowed it to make it easier to concentrate on trimming it. When he reached the end of the field, he had to turn again and that is when it snapped. The pilot told me that he thought that he might have had too much elevator authority. It's also possible that the CG was too far aft, but that's my speculation, not the pilot's. It is also possible that something broke on the airplane, but there was so much damage on impact that making that determination was impossible. A highly tapered, highly loaded wing is just very prone to snapping and pilots need to be aware of this. When you set up your aileron throws, it will help a lot if you put in a lot of differential. Also be careful of your CG location.

Well lets see, that's 3 up & 2 down.
Counting the one in Vietnam that flew on OS .70's, with 14x8 props:
http://rcwarbirds.com/p38flys.htm
the one from Tenn., that has a set a retracts for sale:
http://rcuniverse.com/showthread.php...40&forumid=160
and this one, that's 2 out of three that have crashed.
Not a good sign so far. Let's just hope this is a freak coincedence.

Jim:
Excerpt from "Hard-Hearted Hannah" - "...there was Hannah pouring water on a drowning man..." Me? Cold hearted? Pragmatic.
And I still can NOT understand why anyone would spend the money for the VQ when the KMP is less than 1/2 the price.
Bill.
PS: Jim, we do not know that the one in VC country made a successful landing. The last picture showed it still on final. Who knows what happened later? Score could well be three for three. wr.

Yes Virginia there is a Santa Clause, we think.
I see that the gear is always down on the pics so they did not use retracts at the factory.
I guess they are expecting them any day as well
I seem to be switching most favorite plane from P-38 to BV-141 and most liked twin to ME-110, but thats another story.
