I am building a Royal Cessna Skymaster and have a few questions and something I am looking for.

I have a complete kit minus the main landing gear. Does anyone have a one they didn't use or know where I can find one?

I just started the kit. Can anyone offer any hints concerning:

1. Servo location and number of servos
2. How to set up the control linkages and throws
3. Engine selection
4. Fuel system
5. Mufflers
6. Anything else that could help.

original was just bent aluminum sheet about 1/8 thick.use two 60 size engines and make airscoop on top of wing funtional to cool rear engine.i heat sink head would be a good idea in the back.replace all bellcrank linkage with servos.1 servo elevator.2 servos rudder.2 servos flaps.2 servos airlerons.2 servos thottle.

i assume u mean the maritaka kit, which i am building now. haven't finished it but ...

intend to use (2) OS .70 4S engines

i cut flaps per the plan and am operating them with one central servo and bellcranks

the ailerons i put a servo out under each wing

the rudders will use the connecting rod thru the horiz stab (per plan) with the servo mounted on the inside of the tail boom

the elevator will use one servo mounted on the inside of the other tail boom. by inside i mean the inside surface, not actually inside the boom ( no room).

the engines will each have a mini servo set up with a program mix in the computer radio

lastly, i have to install a servo to steer the front wheel which will be Y conntected with the rudder servo

"replace all bellcrank linkage with servos"

The $10 servo killed the bell crank. :P

the $10 servo killed the bellcrank may be true but when you start driving one bellcrank with another bellcrank alot of slop develops plus the adjustment process is quicker with individual servos.we have the capabillity to improve an old design for better flight performance so why not bring it up too todays standards?

Thanks for the reponses. I am in the process of building the fuse and started the tail booms. TNT landing gear did a great job making the main gear to order for me. I will also be using four low profile aileron servos two for aileron and two the flaps. I would like to use two aluminum spinners but I am having a hard time finding one for the pusher prop, any ideas where I can find one?

I would think that the standard spinner slots would work with pusher props. Becarful of wich direction the prop is faceing. On most of the pusher props that I have seen the words are on the side of the prop that faces to the front of the airplane. So if your in the back putting it on, it will look like your putting it on backwards with the words away from you.

Gun Man,

I too am building the Marutaka Cessna Skymaster 336. I cut my flaps out on the lines indicated in the plans. I plan on using individual servos for everything. No bellcranks.

Which kit are you building?

Contact Tru-Turn. They will cut a pusher spinner to your specs. A little extra $ but it'll look very nice and is functional.

If you use a plastic spinner with the conical cuts in them or one of the "wide blade" aluminum spinners, then yes, you could probably use a regular spinner. However, if you want to use a slotted aluminum spinner, the slots are slanted different on a pusher spinner. As mentioned above, Tru-Turn will cut one for you.

I've got the old Royal version of this kit, which someone started several years ago and gave to me. They put the front engine bearers on the wrong side of the plane. I'm guessing the firewall is in upside down. Don't have the fuse to look at here at work. Anybody take a guess at a work-around on this? I would love to get it flying.

Cut the wood engine beams off flush and use a metal or fiber radial engine mount. You may have to shim the engine mounts to get the length correct.

Lets keep this post going throughout the building of our kits. Add pictures of your progress as you get them.

I have one I purchased used. OS 60 in the nose and a 46 in the tail. All tail & aileron servos are mounted in the center of the main wing. No flaps (it doesn't need them to slow down). If you are going for a military scheme, spinners aren't necessary. The other servos are mounted in the middle next to the gear block. Only one servo manages both engines, one for steering and another for the lights.

On my model, the wing braces are necessary and functional. The person who built this plane did not make these strong enough. I would suggest a remote needle valve for the rear engine. This one tends to get hot and overheat in flight.

Hi Pete,

I have a set of plans for the Skymaster. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier but I was out on vacation for 3 weeks. I will get the location for you (assuming you still need it) and email it back to you by this weekend.

While we are on the subject, what are you using for power on your 336? Do you have any pictures of the servo locations inside the fuse?

P.S. I tried emailing you but your mailbox is full.

Thanks,

Anthony

I have a Supertiger 46 on the front and a a FOX 40BB in the back. Havent flown it yet, but taxi test seems like it gets up real fast.. I have a friend in my club that has one and he has 2 OS 45's in his. Flys great, but either engine out and it wont climb out too great but is able to fly. Ive seen it loose either engine and still be flyable back for a good landing. His weighs about 10 lbs Mine is 9.5 lbs.

as far as servo locations its built as the original, 3 servos in the center section of the wing all driving bell cranks. May change the aileron one to wing panel locations direct connect to the aileron later. and leave the elevator and rudder as is. The throttles each have a mini servo with Y-harness, and the nose wheel has a Futaba 3004 mounted behind the the firewall direct connect. Needed the extra weight anyway, its a tail heavy model. I put a huge 4-cell C-size battery pack in the nose to help too. better to use working weight than just carry lead I think. I would still like the CG location if you can reply here. My Email changed and i have updated it on RCU now.

PEte

Pete,

I'll get the CG location for you tonight. If I forget, simply email me at home ( [email protected] ) as a reminder.

I'm just about ready to glass my 336. I'll be using 2 OS FS 70 4-strokes in mine. I think it's a bit more power than what I'll need but it never hurts to have the extra kick when needed.

I've added a couple pics of my 336. I'm hoping to have it completed in about 2 or 3 more months.

Please keep me in the loop on how your 336 flies.

Pete,

Here's a picture indicating the location of the CG...

It's location is exactly 3 1/2 inches behind the leading edge of the wing. It is directly under the main wing spar.

Hope this helps!
