what size tires is everyone using. i have 5, 51/2, and 6 inch. but to put in that big will have to shorten the tubes that hold the wings togeather. there is only 4 inches between the tubes. waiting on the retracts to arrive. will figure it out when they arrive and i see how far they will extend into the center section.

well i got the outer wings wired up so i can get on with the skin on both sides of both outer wings. now will get servos installed in center section and wired up but can not close the center section untill i get the retracts installed. will also have to make the gear doors. when i get to that part will show how i do it.;
i did get some patterens made up of the formers for cabin. have one person that is waiting on them. will probably glue the formers in next week. the nose gear rails and rails for the cabin to bolt to the wing.
looks like then it will be getting the door cut out and all the windows. then alot of sanding and prepairing for glassing everything.
more pictures tomorrow.

Al, please keep the pictures of your build coming, I do have a second one waiting to be" reserected", the one I told you I bought just for the Robart nose gear. On mine, I couldn't get the wheels all of the way into the wheel well, a little still is below the lower surface of the wing.
I'm interested how you plan to install the gear doors, keep up the good work.

if i built for everyone would never get mine done. got more of the wiring done and the leading edge shaped on both outer wings. guess i will figure out the wheels when i get that far.. not sure yet what size im going to use. I know i will have to do alot of reinforceing because im going to have to remove some material. just a couple more wires to run to the center then i can get on with something else.. Hope my gear will be here monday.

it seems there is always a challenge when building these planes. always something comes up and you have to make a change or redo something. one change im going to do is add a dowel about 1 inch behind the leading edgo. just to keep things lined up and no change of something flexing . with the bolt in and dowel this will keep the wing tight against each other. still have to add dowels inside the metal tubes.

started to install retracts.. made the opening. cut the rails and now reinforceing the ribs. will show pictures later of the complete layout before installing retract. Have to go get some 4 inch wheels or order.. will see what local hobby shop has first. after getting the mains installed will start on the fuselage retract and formers.

Al, that Robart gear looks good, the same as I installed in mine many years ago, never have had a problem with them. I'm interested to see how you get it into the wing and add gear doors.

got the first retract installed.. found that it has to go at a slight angle in order for it to fit and the wheel to line up right. everyone is completely resessed. the wheel goes completely inside with nothing sticking above. now have to make the wheel tub and few minor things.
will start on the other side and get it in. then can do the finish work on the install.
after that its on with the fuselage. formers, rails and then retracts. then will be gear doors on mains and nose. thses wheels are temporary to get things lined up. will have hubs with brakes when done.
will put pictures on later this evening. will also show part of the install to other side.

glued the formers in.. i used bvm special glue.. will hold anything.. does not sag or run. also one photo of start of gear door setup. you can see from outside shops where the formers are installed. there are 5 of them. i will give measurements on where they go, but if you use my former patterns they will only go in so far and that is where you glue them.
the door on the retracts is a temp from another plane. will make new ones out of glass.. will show that as i go.

all my formers are cut out of 1/4 ply. I have alot of that in stock. the retract rails are made out of 1/2 square bass wood and reinforced underside with 1/4 ply.. might be a little much with weight but they are not going to move.. everything then glued in place with 30 minute epoxy. now have to doors for nose gear cut out and getting ready to mount the nose gear in place. will show pictures when i get back in the shop. still many hours of work ahead of me. Have to order the cockpit kit yet and more materials.. special glue and anything else i think of before the order goes in.
