Shipping Damage

The following is just for information and should warn everyone to not accept any large packages from UPS without someone being home to inspect damage.
I arrived home last night to find Tom's Giles sitting on the door step. Both boxes appeared they had been handles with ice tongs! Many small 1-2" holes in outer boxes. The wing box looked like it had been kicked or had a forklift driven into it. A giant 6" gash through both outer and inner box. It was just blind luck that the wings were not smashed. I know this has been discussed in another thread, but UPS is [sm=thumbdown.gif] as far as I am concerned.

I do not understand why WH continue to ship their planes with UPS when 90% of boxes arrived damaged to destination.
Amazing![sm=bananahead.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
I am sure customers are whiling to pay 25$ more to get a better packaging or another shipping company than UPS. In my case, i'll never deal with UPS again[:-][:-][:-]..

It is not only UPS. I have tried most all of the carriers in shipping our planes. I have been very disappointed in them all. I think most of the handlers that work for these companies could care less if the packages arrive undamaged. This is the most frustrating part of our business. I'm sure Tom will probably agree with me. I spend several hours on the phone each week trying to settle claims with the various carriers. It doesn't matter how well the airplane is packaged or how many "FRAGILE" stickers you put on the box.
A short story for you. On one of my return trips from China I brought a prototype of a new design back on the plane with me. It was double boxed and all parts were bubble wrapped. We had "FRAGILE" stickers all over it. The box was oversized and cost several hundred dollars to put under the plane in the freight compartment. I had to retrieve the package from a separate conveyer for oversized boxes at the airport in Newark. I waited and waited and finally I see my box come flying into the conveyer belt area, hit the wall about 10 feet up and come crashing down onto the floor. I jumped onto the belt and ran back into the loading area and gave the handler a piece of my mind. I really don't think he was intelligent enough to read the stickers on the box. I could tell by his reaction that he could care less about the package. By the grace of God the plane wasn't damaged, but this is usually not the case. The carriers really need to work on this.

i think the only way this gets better is if they have to pay for every little bit of dmg that happens on shipment when we let them get buy with some dmg they win they have desensitized us and they get more and more money from now on i will except no dmg in any of my packages if theres some thing damaged they will pay for it and i urge every one to do the same other wise we will be taking it up the wahzoo from now on

I agree, and I'm really upset[:@][:@][:@] my box also came damaged and the fuse was crushed, UPS was supposed to come and pick it up today to take it back to the shipper and 'til now (6:10 pm EST) they haven't showed up and they told me to leave the box outside my front door and it'has been there all day I expected to be gone when I came back from work ,,, but it's still there.
I ordered my plane December 27th 2004 and today it's one month and still have a broken fuse......no plane. This has been my worst experience in 8 years ordering staff online.

My 28% Edge showed up with a hole punched through the bottom of the box(UPS). It put a large dent in the top of the right wing. I could probably fix it and maybe it wouldn't be conspicuous, but I felt UPS should have to pay for a new wing panel. The plane was undamaged when it left WH and I deserved an undamaged plane when it arrived. Tom's taking care of me and I am grateful for that. I just wonder how much money UPS pays in claims every year. This is my second damaged plane in two years and my brother has been through three Funtanas to get one without damage.

Have you tried shipping Greyhound? I think they do a little better since they aren't loading 200 boxes on each bus... they have to load them more carefully to maximize space, etc... just a theory.

Guys:
Regarding what I want, I like it the way it's been up to now. There has been a good exchange of information with no flaming or arguments. The posting of different setups and experiences really seems to have helped a lot of people, and we at Wild Hare are very satisfied with what's going on in our forum.
I have been fortunate to be helped by silversurfer and a few other guys who answer questions quickly. I am not always able to be online, so it's great to get help from a few capable people. Any time their answers conflict with what I would have said, I add a correction so people know exactly what the official position is. Even the most often repeated questions get answered politely.
I have emailed Eric asking why they want to tinker with this very popular forum. I have not yet received an answer.
Many people have benefitted, I'm proud to be teaching so many flyers how to move up to gas and giant scale. I hope it can continue here.

As a newcomer to gas, and the WH product, it was this forum alone that made my mind up for me. The information on these pages far and away exceeds any manual, or other written literature available.
After reading and logging onto various other "company forums", none of them work as well as this one. This is entirely due to the network of posters here, and due to the lattitude that Tom allows.
To change the aspect of this, in the way being promulgated by RCU is entirely retrograde.
Lets hope things can remain as is.

You guys are absolutely right! This is one of the best forums at RCU BECAUSE of user participation. I'm getting real close to maidening my WH Edge and I think I've read 95% of the entire WH forum posts. Every one of my questions have been answered without having to call Tom and bug him. One of the best things is that I have no doubt that my setup will work because others, besides the vendor, share what works and what doesn't. I know I haven't posted much, I never have, but I read a lot (look at my join date) and I think this is the most knowledgeable and civil forum at RCU.
This forum wasn't broke, why is Barney trying to fix it?
BTW - Thank you TOM for hosting this forum and the great support Wildhare RC continues to give all of us!

I corresponded with RCU today and they expressed a willingness to leave things as they are/were.
I have not heard back since then, as far as I know everything is OK and you guys are free to post.
I do request that things be kept relevant to WH products, at least somewhat.
Here's one other tidbit that came about as a result of this little flap. I talked with Silversurfer and he's agreed to work with me in a semi-official capacity answering questions. So FYI silversurfer can no longer be considered totally unbiased, he's a company mouthpeice now. However he still has his own opinions which may vary from mine occasionally.
Thanks for all the support guys.

Help, Help!!! I've been Shanghied!!
In all truthfulness, I've been fairly biased towards the Wild Hare product line since I first became acquainted with them. Most who have been reading my posts since I came to this forum will already know that. Well designed products that do all they are supposed to do, and perform those tasks extremely well at a low price deserve such a bias.
Tom, thank you for the opportunity to be of "semi-official" service. I look forward to being of assistance to any and all to the best of my knowledge and ability as time permits.
For those who may be wondering, this is all for fun and the reward of being able to share my knowledge and experience with others in the hope that they will be able to get as much enjoyment out of this hobby as I have for so many years. There were quite a few people that helped me along the way, as others sometimes still do. It's nice to be able to give back some of what I have received.
In the meantime, we all need to ease off the RCU staff a little and give the powers that be a chance to find balance. If we continue to argue with and denounce the people with control over the forums, little will be gained, and possibly much could be lost. We need to leave this part of the discussion to Tom and RCU.
