Default Is my Edge to fat?

I was shootting for 17.5lbs by my Edge weight 18 lbs 7 oz.[] I am bit deseapointed since i bought the FG gear, CF wing tube?
The sullivan smoke pump could be my problem but i need it to balance the CG at 4.75 inches.

here are few pics..

The components below weight 7 oz and the empty 16 oz Dubro tank weight 2 oz. So, my Edge without the smoke system would weight around 18lbs.

I dont know why you guys are having a problem balancing your 540's. mine balanced @ 4 1/2 with the da 50 and 8611's all around. pull-pull under the hatch. throttle servo / choke servo mounted right behind the firewall.

Jeremiah, Your scale or mine should be off set? There are 2lbs difference between 16.3 and 18.3 for the same set-up without smoke pump?

I was wondering if you have pulled a line from the wing tip marks to give you the location of your CG machine Tom gives all CG points to be used at the wing tip Also if that is your ignition battery in the pics you might want to make sure you get a real clean range check I have seen a lot of problems with the battery and ignition wiring that close to servos. Just my opinion of course!

The Edge is to be balanced near the wing root..the Extra Special/Extra are to be balanced at the tips..unless Im reading the manual wrong..

from the manual:

Balance points
Edge 540T,
4 1/2†to 5†behind leading edge
Extra 300LX and Special
2 1/2†to 3†behind leading edge at wing
tip.

At 18-1/4 lbs, the Wig loading is 30 oz/sq ft. Heavier than expected..[]

As long as i can torque roll at half throttle, it should be fine.

Here is my fish scale that gave me the bad new

Here's my Edge hanging on the ole' fish scale. Scale is accurate also, I weighed 10, 20, and 30# weights, and it it them within an ounce each time.

Set up is:

Lightened aluminum gear and wing tube
5-Hitec 5945's
1-std for throttle
DA-50 with there stock exhaust pipe
1-4cell 1100 mah AA battery for ignition
2-5 cell 1100 mah AA batteries for receiver (9 oz.)
3.5" Dubro wheels

The stock DA muffle is 5 oz, and the Slimline pitts is 11 oz. so you would have to add that to my weight.

Sounds like you may have just gotten a heavy one.[:@]

Your right ..but it dont matter on the edge. because it has a straight leading edge. you'll get the same balancing at the tip or the root.

The 300 has a tapered leading edge thats what matters.

You bet it would make a difference[X(] Balancing the Extras' 4-1/2" back from the tips would make for a wild and interesting ride!

Forget about the weight and fly the plane. The wing area on these planes will allow you to 3d very well even at 20 pounds. As long as you have a powerfull engine like the DA or ZDZ or even the BME Your all gravy. The plane will fly and 3D with the Zenoa... But you will need a lot of space to recover.
Also dont take the CG thing so serious. The numbers are meant for a first flight type of thing, She will allow you to change up her CG quite a bit to fit your flying preferenc and style. This is one of the easiest giant scale planes to fly and will land like a feather when the fear wears off.

I am gonna maiden it with the CG at 4.75'', 18- 1/4lb,

I could reduce the weigh to 17-3/4lb by removing the smoke system but the CG would be 5 to 5''-1/4.

Anyone fly it at CG=5'' or 5.25''? How does it fly?

Thanks for the tip buchtes with the SIM! I only have G2 Sim lite. I am gonna buy AFP deluxe one of these days when i am gonna change my computer.

I am waiting 23x8 Mejzlik prop from DA. The CF props are a lot heavier than wooden props. It should help to balance my plane, if i remove the smoke system and if i remove the wooden prop to fly lighter.

Nogyro

I am using Slimline pitt muffler. If you're right about the weight, You're Edge would weight 17lb 1oz+6oz=17lb 7oz near 17.5lbs with the Slimline muffler which makes sens when we compare yours and my Edge.

I would have to put the rx pack in the spinner to balance the CG at 4.75'' and DA muffler

Mine was maidened with the CG at 5.25" and it wasn't a problem to fly the plane at all. It would climb inverted so I knew immediately that I wanted to move the CG forward afdter the maiden. Landings were pretty interesting, basically it didn't want to land and like most tail heavy planes it wanted to nose up and stall right above the ground, basically I had to harrier land it.

I have the CG at just ahead of 5" now and I like the way it flies there much better.
