I have to do some work around the house tomorrow, my 76 year old mother just moved in with my wife and I last Sunday so I will not get started until late in the day. I'll take some pics of the plane untouched, out of the box, and post on Sunday.

Well today I looked over everything and became familiar with the supplied hardware. I took the cowl deck and eliminated the wrinkles and also I found some stuff made by Novus that I bought at the local Harley dealer to take the dullness/scratches off Ultracote to my surprise. I know I am a picky pain in the ___. Also if you look at the front alignment pins you will notice at how loose these things are so I went to the local hardware store and bought some push in nylon bushings that will work perfect to snug the deck up. Take a look! More later . . .

Perry,
The Novus polish is also very good at poilshing the canopy.
As use on full scale aircraft.
Picked some up at the loacl FBO.
Mine came with three bottles numbered 1,2,&3
Approx $15.00 for the package.
Very good stuff.

Here is a pic of the Aircraft International CF Tailwheel that will go on the Extra 330. No springs!
Mounts using a 4-40 threaded rod that screws into the ball link so the rod can slide fore and aft.

I'll try not to duplicate any of Perry's photos. Here is a few pics right out of the box. Notice the top and bottom photos of the elevator. It looks like who ever put the parts together did it opposite of what it should be. The blue and yellow stripes should go on the top and the two blue stripes should go on the bottom which match the wing scheme. That is not the way the two halves came out of the box. I tested the fit and both elevator halves will interchange, so when I do the final assembly I'll put the two blue stripes on the bottom to match the wings.

Tom,
I have two suggestions for this plane.
(1) Emphasize to the people who put these planes together the importance of not getting glue in the blind nuts. Every one on the blind nuts on my plane were filled with glue. What a PITA to drill it out and then run a tap through the hole. The four in the wings were the worst of the bunch.
(2) Anodize and seal the wing and stab tubes. Bare aluminum is messy to handle and it gets all over the plane. Fortunately I have to ability to do this at work.

Well I'm finally starting to get into putting this model together. I polished all three bare aluminum tubes and anodized them black. I also brushed finished the landing gear and anodized it black. Everything came out looking great.
I figured I finish off the landing gear by mounting the wheel pants and mounting the gear to the airframe. I already had pre-fit the landing gear to the airframe before I had it anodized. Thankfully I had not glued the wood mounts into the pants yet. The pilot dots on the wheel pants match the holes drilled in the landing gear but the holes in the wood mounts are so far off it looks like a blind man drilled the holes. The two lower holes on both wood mounts are way off, he must have been blind in both eyes. I had already glued the blind nut in the holes and when I tried to remove them....... well lets say I'll have to make two new ones. At least the holes will be drilled correctly.
I have almost finished the canopy. I have trimmed and shaped the clear plastic, and put in blocks behind the fifty #2 wood screws I used . I changed the black interior to stone gray and I have not decided if I’m going to put in a pilot and dash. I'll post some picks of the tubes, landing gear, and canopy in a day or two.

Hey guys thanks for the updates and pics, keep it going.
Always like to see other ideas and fixes.
Anyone got a weight differance on the CF Vs. Alum. tubes?
Thinking about trying a set of those new wings and the fiberglass gear too.
Both should save some weight, plus lighten my wallet

Anyone one know how the new version balances with the DA-100? I'm assuming that since the wings are lighter and the canopy is smaller it will be a little less tail heavy and the batteries can be kept a little further from the ignition?

Hopefully it's actually attached to the firewall.
But seriously,
DA doesn't publish the length on their web site and I don't have one here. But the photos I have look like I used just over an inch of spacers.

OK... one more ???
What are the dimesions of the tail tubes? I'm going to replace them with carbon to try and keep the weight forward so I can move my batteries a little further from the ignition.
Thanks again.

I just did a build for a friend, using the HS 5955 on a pull pull rudder setup. That servo is fast, strong, and centering is awesome. The plane was similar; it was an Aeroworks 35% Extra 300l.
Setup included:
HS 5955
4" Airwild Full Arm for Hitec
Nelson Pull Pull cable wire
2x Nelson pull pull hardware setup
I think you will be happy with this setup in your plane. A bellcrank would take the tension off the servo and perhaps lengthen its lifespan.
Look forward to seeing the pictures. Maybe I might add one to my collection.

So a single 8611A would be plenty for the rudder? That seems like such a huge rudder for such a small servo in 28+ lbs plane!!!!
I have a SWB self-adjusting tray with 2 x 8611s in my JTEC plane... love the rudder authority. Knife-edge back and forth all day long. I think the single servo might be at its limits and get "tired" after that kind of abuse.
Speaking or single servos... anyone tried a single 8611A or 5955 is the outer servo bay? Looks ALMOST centered from the pics.

I agree with sillyness, one rudder servo in this size airplane is not going to cut it. I’m also running a SWB self-adjusting tray with 2 x 8611s. It is already in the plane. [sm=thumbup.gif]
