After having the Ultimate for a year i finally maiden the Ultimate yesterday. It has a Rcignitions G-62 swinging MSC 22/8 prop and all i can say is i am a happy camper. The maiden required 2 clicks down elevator , and was very uneventfull which i like in a first flight . The motor is new and was pretty tight to begin with ,but after 5 flights it started running better and better . I didnt tach the rpms but it is very impressive . I cant believe how rock solid this bird is . It didnt do any thing funny and is very stable. I really was a little hestitate to begin with and thought it wouldnt fly as good as it did for some odd reason. I have cg right at 6.5 and will move it back a little bit as landings are a little hot but not bad using the landing function set up on my Hitec Eclipse radio. I had alerons set a little to low on high rates at first hearing that they are super responsive but after one flight i cranked them up and wow does this bird roll quick. But as soon as i let up on the sticks it stops and doesnt over rotate at all. I have the Pink version and it is very visible in the air. I was really not ready to quit flying this bird after the sun got to low to fly and that was after 6 flights. I can also get the plane loaded in my Dodge full size van with no problem fully assembled. I was really impressed on how easy Ralphs motor was so easy to set the needles and it has no mid range burble at all and idles great. Thats all for now , thanks Pat for all the help and advice.

Hi Bas.
They really are a nice plane to fly, i too was a bit worried on my maiden flight as it is the first Bipe i have flown. But really there was nothing to worry about... very stable with awesome roll rate when flicked to high rates.
Now i got to master this Harrier lark!! on this plane.......
Have fun.

that's great to here. Here are what I beleive the traits on any decent Ultimate to be
Ultimate on low rates = big puddy tat
Ultimate on high rates = a big puddy tat with an attitude
Ultimate back on low rates = big puddy tat
Ralphs engines are great. Once you have the start procedure down pat, it will start exactly the same way everytime. I have 2 of his engines, both G26's and really like them

Bruce, Glad to hear you finally have the chance to get her in the air. You're welcome, too.
Don't go aft of 6-3/4" for the C/G. I finally got mine moved forward to that point and she's a lot happier "puddy tat". Explore and enjoy, she keeps getting better and better as you become acquainted with her. I agree with the visibility on the pink color scheme. Looks great and nobody at the field has anything in the same colors. Now if I can get Mstroh and Josey to get one the circle would be almost complete

The Ailerons on high rates make it roll like crazy. Also when I mixed out the coupling all I needed was like 1-2% aileron. The ailerons are really effective on this plane. Just be careful on your inverted to upright flat spins...dont ask me how I know
Glad to hear all went well. Most of the bunnies on low rates are very tame.

The key to the high rate spin entries and exits is the C/G location. I found that with an extremely aft C/G (7-1-2") the plane did not want to exit a flat spin and recovery was a very iffy thing. You had to work hard to get out of it. With the C/G at a max of 6-34" it will pretty much fly itself out of it if left alone.
Another item of note is that this Ultimate does not require but about 1/2 the amount of rudder travel that anything else does. For normal average speed K/E flight it takes less than 1/4" of deflection to hold the plane anywhere you want it to go. If you go to high rate rudder and have more than about 30 degrees you will perform one of the prettiest rudder only snap rolls you'll ever see. Too much rudder and you will have to work on some mixes to balance things out. It's easier to just have a little less travel and end up doing more, easier. I was out with mine today and detuned everything except elevator for better control and less sensitivity in 3D types of flying.
For an easy "elevator" without having to go high just go to max rate elevator, cut the throttle, wait for it to slow down and feed in full elevator quick enough to pitch up but slow enough not to balloon. She'll start to drop straight down with zero wing rock. To harrier, just add power and pitch to suit. Harrier rolls rquire a bit of learning the roll rate but are pretty easy after you do. She responds extremely well to high rate aileron control in a hover. The only problem in a hover is that she climbs so easily. I only have a 3.2 so you guys with the larger engines must have to tie a rope to the tail.

Thanks for the info Pat , it is good to know these tips from you. I havent had a chance to fly it since the maiden, working a lot of OT and the weather here has been very hot with humidity equal to 98 degree temps make it very uncomfortable. I was a little concerned on the way the plane responds to recovery out of spins inverted and ect and will for sure keep my cg at where you advised. Just for information my top wing incidence is set to 0 .
