Default how to read hangar 9 voltmeter

Hello Guys.

I just got myself a new digital variable load voltmeter.I was using a Hobbico meter that give you a big (OK) if it's safe to fly so i never really look at the number. With the hangar 9 meter there is not big(OK) so now i need to know at what voltage it to low to fly and i should recharge.
I'm using and 4.8 to power the spark plug and i already no i should not fly if it dips below 5.0volt
and with li Ion, i think, you should not fly below 7.2
But i don't know at what voltage is to low for a 5cell 6.0 volt pack.
Also guy the volt meter has 3 different loads. .5A,1A and 2A how do i use these loads and what i'm i looking for.

Thanks
Verne

I like using at least the 1amp to 2amp loads for the big planes. I only have lion packs and the rule of thumb is not to fly them below 75% if you want them to last a looooonng time.

The drop off for NICD's and NIMH's are fast after they give up their charge. I am not the NIMH or NICD expert by any means. Like I said for lions never drain them below 3 volts per cell. Easy to just keep them around 75%.

A fair rule (not a "hard" rule) is never to dip below the packs baseline voltage and you will be fine. 4.8 volt pack, stop at 4.8. A 6 volt pack, stop at 6v. This applies pretty much only to nicad and nimh only. You can dip a couple of tenths under the baseline voltage and not get in trouble but why push it?

I use 1.5 and 2 amp loads when I test my stuff, but that's with Lithions. A one amp load should be the minimum load with larger stuff, imo.

this thread really is what this particular little corner of the www is all about!
Someone comes in here and posts a question that has nothing whatsoever to do with Wildhare planes.
Instead of jumping up and down, screaming the odds people with knowledge, patience, and although not a "blokey thing", compasssion, respond.
I like this little family, and as one who takes more than he gives, would like to say a big thank you to all combining to make this place what it is.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Thanks for your help airborneSGT and Silversurfer.

Euclid.your right about that.I love my wild hare yak, but this forum and tom and patty's service are the big reason why my next plane will be a bunny again.
