New 35% Extra 300
I have some money burning a hole in my penut butter jars....been looking at the Yaks now for a couple weeks.
Does anyone have the new 35% Extra yet flying...if so how do you like the plane?
Can not seem to make a final decision on what to buy.
I have a WH Edge now and I am very happy with it so far, so if the Extra is just as good, then it will really make my decision difficult.
Thanks

We've only shipped about 10 of them so far, and as far as I know the only one flying is this one;

thats not fare tom, kyle can make a brick fly good if it has enough engine. haha! great vid. i watched kyle's vid flying the 41% about 50 times before i bought one and for some reason mine won't do everything his did[:@], but the plane is not at fault, it has to be the best i have had or flown so far and i am sure the 35% will be awsome too.

The 35% Extra is a really excellent plane. It flies exactly like the 41%, it's hard to tell the differencewhen you are flying it. The only perceptible difference is the 35% has a slightly faster roll rate because of its shorter wing span.

I love it when a plane "flys light". It's even better to see one that clearly flys light. Based upon the video, this new 35% Extra looks to be another winner! The wind sock in the background said it was a pretty windy day, as did the downwind harriers. It takes a good plane to deal well with that. The colors are nice too

Yes, if you watched the video to the end there was a statement about 800 hard flights with many hard/slammed landings that had damaged the engine box.
Kevin was aware that the fuse was worn out/damaged and had purchased a new one a few weeks earlier but he did not have time to replace it before the event.

Link to a video, it's also now up on our web site. http://www.dodvideos.com/dod_wildhare_100cc_extra_1.wmv
I am very anxious to see the new Extra perform on a DA-85, anybodyplanning to do it please let meknow and I will try to help as much as I can. And I have DA-85s in stock along with canister kits.
I have been doing a lot of testing, comparing the DA-85 to the DA-100. They are so close in power that I am now preferring the 85 over the 100.
The 85 with canisters will be almost 2 pounds lighter than the 100 with cans. There isa 1.7 lb. difference in the engine alone, and it only needs 1 canister/header instead of 2, saving perhaps another 1/3 pound.
A 100 plus canister setup will be $1,550 approximately. A DA-85 with the canioster kit is $1,035. More thana $500 difference.
Finally, performance. In my testing the 85 is down from the 100 about 100 rpm, this was done with them sitting side by side identical props and identical setups (as close as they can be, anyway). I will trade 100 RPM for 2 pounds any day. Plus, according to DA I can pick up another 150-200 RPM on the 85 by using a different canister muffler, yet to be tested.
The DA-85 also has less internal mass (lighter crankshaft and only 1 piston and rod) so it spools up faster. It's easily as smooth as the DA-100 with no obnoxious vibration that isusually present ina big single.
All in all the DA-85 is less expensive, lighter, and just about the same power, possibly more with the right muffler. It's easy to handle and smooth, has excellent response for you 3d flyers.
I strongly recommend the DA-85, and I don't go out on a limb like that very often.

RE: New 35% Extra 300
Tom,
Did you use the forward or aft tube location with a 100 and are the pull pull wires crossed with an offset arm?
One are that concerns me is that there are only 2 hatch hold down screw locations? seems an awfully long hatch for just 2, re warping/ bending in flight.
Also do I need to install some extra blind nuts on the cowl ala Sukhoi as the only thing holding the lower half is the notched ply?

Hatch has not been a problem as long as the screws are installed. Ofcourse it's impossible to know what is happening in flight but there have been no problems.
Same story on the cowl, it's been fine as designed.
