My bipe is up on it's wheels now. I got the LG on with the wheel pants, (rare for me), close up the air outlet some. I also got the elevator servos in and the flying wires. The pull-pull cables work best if they are not crossed, crossed they rub on the back of the slit, not crossed they come right out in the center of the slit. I went with a 7955TG for the rudder and 5985MGs for the elevators, S3151 for the choke and throttle, planing on 4 S3152 for the for the ailerons.

Servos work great for me just make sure to loctite the servo arm screws
I see people advising this frequently, but it is not a very good idea.

The screws for retaining the servo arm thread into the metal splined shaft. If you use loctite on them 1 of 2 things is likely to happen. Either they will be so tight that you will ruin the screw head trying to get them out, or if you can get a good grip then the screw head just breaks off. If that happens you have to replace the gear set in the servo.

INstead buy a packed of allen head servo screws from Microfasteners. These you can get real tight with a ball driver and they will not come loose until you want them to.

Rick i don't think it will even fit into my astro van.

I weighed mine last night, minus the switches and aileron pushrods...........16.2 pounds.

I put the 2300 A123racing flight pack batteries and the 2500 NiMH ignition batteries under the stab.

I carbon fibered the strut tangs that go into the wings. I drilled two holes though each to at as "rivets", but as textured as the Carbon fiber is I think it may not be necessary. I plan on putting epoxy in the tang slots on the bottom wing, then installing the struts with the tangs attached. After the epoxy has cured I'll put epoxy in the top wings tang slots then install the wing and make sure it's at -1*. If the plane fits in a Grand Caravan assembled I'll make flying wires for it, the kind of old tech CF wing tubes.:D

BOY! i am sure glad you came in at 16lbs. i bet there are a few people out there that thought i must be on DRUGS when i reported 16lbs.1oz. with mine.
let me know if you found any hard points in the ailerons, and where they are at.
i also would like to know what kind of RPM's you are getting with that canister.

Mine has a canister and was weighed with the 23x8 prop and a weight to equal a spinner, so if you use just 2 wing servos sub 16 pounds is possible.

On my other MT57 I got a drop of about 200 rpm with the canister over the stock muffler, but I don't remember the number now. I'll most likely be test flying this next week.

yep,and look at the difference in the MT57 & DA50 you would be in the 15.5 range.
mine is still setting on the dinning room table / work bench untill the weather breaks or at lease till the winds die down.

Rich, did the maiden flight on Thanksgiving it was a balmy 38 degrees no wind and sunny.
the plane took two clicks of right aileron and that was it.CG was at 6-5/8 and just had to breath on the down elevator when inverted.very little coupling in KE and a slight pull to canopy, nothing that had to be mix out.also all these reports that the recommended aileron is to fast of roll rate is nothing to worry about, they are just not use to fling a ultimate.landings are easy just chop the throttle when your just above the strip and it settles right in.only flew it twice due to the clear on the covering was comming lose in a couple of spots.all in all not a bad fling ultimate for only two flights as much as i could tell.but i am not ready to get rid of the Chip Hyde DV yet or the one i have NIB on the shelf.:D

That's where my CG is set too...........I wasn't worried, I usually fly with the ailerons set for about 3~4 rolls a second:D..........Yea, what's with that? Is it really Ultracote?...........I got a couple of Pitts in the box too. I think I'm going to put flying wires on the main wings, I've been known to rip the wings off a few planes, this one looks like it's going to be ridden hard and put away wet a lot.:D

I added carbon fiber .060" plates into the ailerons as hardpoints.

I added hard points to my ailerons by inserting a .060" CF plate, then put the aileron horn through that.

I did a test flight today.[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif] Don't know why I didn't get a video, had the camera, gave it to a guy, still no video.[:@]

I found I have it a little tail heavy, so on low rates it was OK, but on high rates (60~70* each way on the elevator with -20 expo), it was a bit much except in stalled manuvuers. It flat spun inverted and upright great, I may be able to get a climbing flat spin out of it.:) I found doing an elevator there is zero wing rock, VERY stable. I had about 1/2" tavel on the ailerons on low rate, it was OK for flying around. I like a lot of aileron so on high rate I have about 45* each way, that was more to my liking, I was getting 3~4 rolls a second, so that was about perfect. Slow speed on low rates it flys about like a trainer, all the good with none of the bad of a trainer that is.

Things that didn't go right:

I broke out one of the lower wing dowels, it wasn't glued to much.
Those ten little bolts are really hard to put in in 25* weather.
The MT canister's inlet is too smooth and the canister slid off.
The plane with the purple feathers color scheme is tough to see, I'll fix that in the coming days.

The most important thing learn today is it fits in a Grand Caravan assembled!:D:D So mine in going to get flying wires on the main wings.

Any canister will slide off, you need to put a stop behind the muffler to keep it from moving.

I can only get about 38* of rudder throw without hitting the stabs, 45* is called for, what have you guys been doing? I see you could cut the stabs, put more throw in and let it hit the elevator unless they are moved off center, or live with 38*. Which have you been doing?

It rained today so I added flying wires to my bipe. I used the rear bolt in the center of the top wing, the other ends I attached to the bottom bolts of the wing struts. I also ran wires from the bulkhead in front of the lower wing to the bolts at the top of the wing struts.

Would a MLD 28cc gasser fly this plane? Thanks WC

Fly it yes, fly it like it was made to fly, no. And I think they are out of stock now.

I am reoutfitting a used WH Ultimate......the plane supposedly had a DA 50, I'll be using a DLE 55, so that will fit right in. 2 main questions....first I see that the plane must have come with a tray that mounts above the fuse servos for the battery, receiver...if so not with my plane....but with the pics in this forum easy enough to do. 2nd...I'll be using Spektrum 7 ch 2.4 trans and receiver...how is the best way to hookup the wing servos? I would assume using a Y connector to each wing then use 2 channels on the receiver? Thanks WC
