RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
What AI pilot is that? Is that the size "C"? I have the D size in my 260. Very sharp looking!

RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Very very nice Ken,
Tom, there is a bunch of really nice pics for your web site Video, video video. I just have to get started on mine, no more putting it off |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
That's a nice looking plane Ken.
I tell ya... the more I see the WH Ultimate, the more I'm thinking of selling the WM Ultimate I purchased recently. I got a really good deal on the WM one, but the WH is just too dang nice! I want to start building soon so I need to make a final decision. :D I can't wait to see the maiden video. Good flying. |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Glad to hear your almost finished Ken, I'm just about done myself.... Have to program the top wing servos and add on the other wheel pant. Hopefully I will have a chance to fly it Thursday or Friday.
I have a digital video cam at my disposal but I need to purchase a firewire card. |

I might just get it in the air tomorrow. I'll be taking the cameras and take a bit of Video. However I am no 3D expert so there will not be allot of that type flying in the video.
All I got left is sealing the hinge gaps and installing the logos. Thanks for all the Kudos. Below you can see where I installed my radio/battery tray. With these installed here and the DA 50 up front it balanced on the recommended 6 1/2" |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Sounds great, can't wait for the vid.
Have a great maiden. |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
I don't know about you guys but I just think that radio mounting method is the coolest thing. You can set it all up on the bench and then just put it in, makes a truly neat installation.

RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
It's true, I run dual batts that sit side by side to the reciever. All strapped down with red velcro strips. when I needed to center a servo or adjust endpoints while building I just pulled the tray up, Plugged in the servo, the batts and wala.

RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
The radio tray is cool and I've already printed the pics which I have done allot in this thread. It's been really informative and will definitely help me when I get started on mine.
Thanks Ken and everyone else for all the great posts. It's gonna be easy for me |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
I'm pretty sure once you see the vid's youll probaly start building a little sooner[sm=wink.gif]

RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Thanks for the compements on the radio tray. WHEW I'm glad the build is finished. NOw I just need to get out and fly it. Today winds are HIGH and weather sucks! I might not be able to get out and fly :(
If anyone has questions please feel free to ask. |

I took it out today. It was VERY overcast but not bad otherwise. The pictures are ok but I would prefer better.

RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Ahh, but it's atough bird I only bent the gear a little and knocked my main battery loose. All is fixed and waiting for another day.
I do have some issues I need to resolve. Hopfully Tom or anyone can give me some guidence. Since this is my first big Bipe maybe I did something wrong. 1. I have allot of right trim in the ailerons. I mean ALLOT 3/4" or there abouts. Any ideas on why? 2. Landings are FAST. I need to figure out a better way to slow it down. I didn't get enough time to do a stall check to see just how slow I can get it. Good comment is that this is one TOUGH plane. which is good I flipped it on it's back and it was no worse for it. |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
In the last pic it must have decide to try to suntan it's belly. Guess it didn't realize it was overcast or you wore it out and it need a nap
I wish I could help more on the trim, that is allot. The only things I could think of is lateral balance, vertical stab not straight, rudder not trimmed, elevators not in sync or even |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
The flight was good but I really didn't manage allot. I just trimmed it and took it around a few times. I was landing it and that's hen I flipped it. So that ended my day early. As of right now I can say I prefer my Edge over this plane.
I did do a couple rolls at the recommended 3D rates and they where FAST! |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Ultimates can usually be slowed allot but with the trim trouble I cannot blame you for being a little apprehensive. Bipes do take a little getting used to. Once you see one do a flat spin then maybe all doubt will go away.
I am sure Tom will chime in here soon with what he thinks is wrong. Not matter what. I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
When you checked your wing incidence did you also compare each wing tip to see if you had a warped wing?
Did you checked the lateral balance? Usually fast landing planes are due to a nose heavy condition. Recommended cg settings are used for safe first flights, Usually I never find these settings adequate for my style of flying. I will hopefully be flying mine this weekend at the Jumbo Jamboree with a video to boot. I had some issues today between a new Hitec digital and others of the like. I will be swapping it out tomorrow. I sure hope I like this model, I chose this one over a new edge which had been my favorite aircraft. |

1. I have allot of right trim in the ailerons. I mean ALLOT 3/4" or there abouts. Any ideas on why? 2. Landings are FAST. I need to figure out a better way to slow it down. Bipes are notoriously draggy. You should be glad that when you close the throttle it doesn't just drop out of the sky, that means that it's (a) light and (b) clean. However that good news doesn;t help you. Are you sure the idle is down to where it should be? TF |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Ken,
A fast landing Ultimate is usually a nose heavy Ultimate. When you get the opportunity, take her up high and see how much you can slow her down. She won't be a "floater" but she won't be a brick either. Landings will be a little faster with a large wing area Ultimate over a monowing plane, but shouldn't be a lot faster unless there's too much weight in the nose. Nose overs are usually a pretty good indication that a bipe is nose heavy. Just a thought, but just about all the "muscle" bipes I've had seemed to fly best when they were balanced at a reference point equal to the aft wing cabane. In any of the sizes and types I've had. I don't know about this one, so it's just a thought. The aileron trim sounds like an alignment issue, but can't be sure. |
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Yea that 3/4 right trim dont make sence either to me. even if it needed that much to trim it on the maiden. it would seem the plane would do a barrel roll at take off.
|
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
Gotta be a wing twist issue. I had a Christen Eagle that I thought the incidences were correct on and it was doing the same thing, rolling real hard to the left. I took it home and found I had -1 on the top left and +1 on the top right. Fixed it and that solved the problem. I just pulled the trigger on a yellow ultimate also, gonna drop a mvvs 58 in it.

RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
I believe what he was saying is he used 3/4 of the trim available on his radio trim tab wich probable won't equate to 3/4".
|
RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
OK, today I got to fly it again. As for the trim issue I got it all wrong. I checked the trim after I had landed the first time. I hand handed my daughter the radio and she had benn holding the stick even further and that's where I took a reading on the flight surfaces. Sorry for the confusion. After todays flight the trim was still there but I would say it was onlt about 1/16" deflection on a couple surfaces.
Since I got to fly it several times I need to move the CG back a tad and try again. I managed to land it on it's wheels rather than the top wing:) I actually enjoyed flying it and found out that there are allot of new manuvers that I can do that I couldn't with my EDGE :) :D |
