I do not have a base loaded antenna so I am wondering where to route the RX ant.
Why not route it through the wing like recommended on a Dust?

Just a thought... a small dot of slicone glue will hold the servo in forever. I'm not sure epoxy would do much good.

Razor,

Just mount the servos per the instructions using the supplied servo blocks and screws. There's a 1/16 ply plate that's bagged right into the wing structure. Once installed, the servos aren't going anywhere. Take a look at Crazy's first few posts where he has the servos installed. If you need more pictures, I can send you some from my bird. The servos took me about 20 minutes to install and another 30 minutes to hook up everything. There's nothing worse than having to rip out a servo that's been permanently glued in.

AMEN to that! We r/c combaters do a lot of servo gluing as it is the easiest way to hold servos on combat airplanes, but you can never get the cases perfectly cleaned up after that.... servo removal in a combat airplane is pretty easy, though, we just have a mid-air!

LMAO....

Mike, that's good. I remember those days. You plane runs out of gas and your buddy dives in on you while your dead stick and takes out an elevator or half a wing panel. Very easy servo removal after one of those! It's amazing just how hard it is to hit the streamers while the motors are running, but when the motor quits, you're a sitting duck!!!

Sounds good Crazy...I can do that- I suppose I can just keep my flight path REAL CLOSE to avoid range challenges.

I am a bit discouraged when I see your thread and ChuckL's, you guys are like pros!

I will give you a hint on the Phenom, glue the wings and fins on last!

thos 12 psc to glue on for the cowl mounting tabs must be done first. you may need to buy a long drill for the screw holes. I made a tap extention using a 1/4 or 3/8 wood dowel.... I drilled a hole to snug fit the tap into the end of the dowel and a drop of cya and it was good to go. If you have a Production Tool Suppy or J & L Industrial suppy... you can buy long drills that you may need also years ago I bought a set of drills that had: Letter A-Z Number: 1-60 and Fractional 1/64 - 1/2 by 64's drills.

the long drill & tap was used when drilling/tapping the mount for the faring cover on the top side of the wing.

to glue down the faring to the servo hatch...1st I glue in some balsa into the closed end (front) of the faring and then sanded it flush to the bottom... this increases contact area to the hatch. using 220 grit I sanded the cowl and faring to match the contour of the airframe.

tip # 2 when drilling the hinge holes in the elevons...
drill the 1/4 diameter 1/4" deep first! ( hing pivot point relief )
then the 3/16" (?) as I recall for the Robart hinge.
drilling plastic/composite a 1/4 drill will want to "screw" itself into the 3/16 hole.

I suggested to Russ these holes should be done at oakdale on a fixture to keep them on location and correct depth. I have bought a drill to make a "step drill" for this operation. One drill two diameters.

Some more progress tonight... I don't remember exactly what all I did or what happened but I can tell you it is structurally strong! I tested it against my big Margarita glass! (see pic)

Also see pic compared to Whip.

That looks great Razor! If I had to pick between the two, I'd have to say that blue and yellow looking thing looks so much more classy than the red one does.

Looking forward to hearing about your flight.

I think you should construct a little glass holder permanently on the airframe. Then, after a blisteringly fast flight, you can just fill up the glass with a refreshing Margarita which will allow you to relax and calm your rush from flying. The Phenom then doubles as a cup holder!! But wait, theres more!!! The Phenom doubles as a meat slicer, a onion dicer! And with the special prop attachment, you can mix Margaritas on the spot!!! All this for $19.95!!! [X(]

GPB- THAT is funny

I wanted to show off the strength of the Oakdale Phenom and that is a BIG margarita!

More work this weekend!

Russ- I am REALLY having fun putting this together! I will try to get Tom (KMOT) to video the first flight and I will take lots of pics- Did you get my email about Toledo?
