RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
While kitting them again would be great, somehow I doubt Great Planes (who owns Goldberg now) would let you.
Interesting solution you did with the nose, but as the one I am working on has no oil/wood issues I'm not going to go that route.
Thanks,
Bill S.

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
The DLE also has a rear carb so it may be interesting. I have read in the past about recessing the carb into the firewall with no issues. Any reason not to do that if needed?
This, a PT-19 and a cub i am working on are my first forey into gas engines so I definitly have a lot to learn.
Thanks,
Bill S.

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
This is my YS to DLE re-engine thus far.
The DLE is about the same length as the four stroke was and I have no change to the cowl location. Weight is very similar as well, I believe that CG will be achieved by moving the ignition and battery back and forth.
I am holding off on fuselage covering that way everything is very accessible for final installation.

On a previous dle 20 installation i needed the firewall to be partially removed to get room for the carb.the only issue is that it is much harder to
gain acces to the mixture screws. I love that engine! The only bad habit of that engine is the midrange rpm is very touchy!! Lot of expo needed (trhottle curve) to make it respond like it should!

Try an ignition from the 30 or 55. Pretty much cures the midrange problem. Timing curve is different.

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
I purchased my DLE 20 about a month ago.
I have only run it on a test bench but I was very satisfiedwith the little engine.
It started very easily and ran and ran. There was not the slightest hesitation at any point transitioning from a 1600rpm idle to a 8500rpm wide open with an APC 15x10 prop.
Running at any rpm setting was very steady.
It is my first Chinese engine and so far I am impressed.

I too am impressed with the dle 20, I installed on on a Kyosho TA-152 and it runs like a swiss watch right out of the box.
Very happy with my 55 also

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
I was impressed enough to order a DLE 55 as well for a new 2.2m YAK 54.
I hope that the 55 is equally easy to operate.
The penny dropped for me to switch engines on my Ultimate when one of the subscribers to this thread said that he was happy with the DLE 20 and that it outperformed his previous four stroke glow.

So I'm confused... it looks like some people with the dle-20 and there goldberg ultimate had to modify the firewall and some didn't? Can I get some clarification on this? This is an awfully tempting engine for this plane if its a fairly straightforward bolt on...

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
From my point of view there are three ways to go about installing a DLE 20 on our Ultimate’s.
a) Simply bolt it on and adjust the cowl to suit
b) Punch a hole through the firewall to accommodate the rear mounted carb
c) Move t whole firewall backwards (most labor intensive)
The choice probably depends your original engine configuration. In my case it was using a heavy, long 120 four stroke engine so my cowl and CG was adjusted accordingly. Most of the work for me was to close off the hole in the cowl where the side mounted glow four stroke protruded and to reopen one through the bottom to accommodate the new inverted mounted DLE.
If you previous engine was a much lighter and more compact two stroke .90 etc then you may want to explore options b and c.
Should you decide to make such a change we can certainly talk you through the mod.
That what these threads are all about.

Yes but that shouldn't change much from plane to plane, if you have the stock firewall location and the stock cowling location, is there room there to fit the DLE-20 and a motormount?
it sounds like from mikmerl's post that he's implying that the DLE-20 is longer than the stock spacing from cowl to firewall. DLE doesn't list the engine's length spec's on its homepage, from the PDF of the plans I'm looking at it looks like you have about 6-7" between the firewall and cowl....

It all depends on the distance required from the firewall to the spinner's backplate to clear the cowling

RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
The drawings have the distance from the firewall to the cowl lip at 5”. The DLE is 5.43” and with a bit of room between the carb and the firewall this distance will become 5.80”.
I decided that it would be easiest for me to have the spinner back plate at that distance rather than messing around with the firewall. (it was there any way to accommodate the YS 120 four stroke)
Then with some re-arranging of batteries inside the fuselage to gat the desired CG location.

OK ... THIS is a thread I love.
Still my FAVORITE plane.
Mine has YS 1.20 w slimline smoke, Truturn ultimate spinner, graupner 14x7 3 blade. (Really needs the 15x8 but the 14x7 looks scale and flies unlimited). used auto paint from Napa blended o match ultracoat
Loved building this plane... would love o build another no kits t be found

@mikmerl; thanks for the numbers. with the amount of overlap between the cowl and body I imagine you'd hardly notice the 0.8" difference... close enough to call it good going with your method a) .
I'm strongly leaning towards a 20cc gasser in mine... this just strengthens it!
@Thunderboat. Beautiful plane, beautiful beautiful plane!!! I love the 3 blade prop. Kits are around, mine was delivered to my house last monday. Usually 2-3 pop up every month on ebay, sell between $140 and $250. keep your eyes open and you can grab one. There is also always the option of scratch building!

You were me 2 weeks ago... Keep following this thread and watching ebay.
If your interested in scratch building there is also an effort here to enable that.. peternj has an archive of the plans and templates needed.

Can I join with this Ultimate? It's not the CG kit but a little ACE 1/2A kit I converted to electric. I have built and assembled a number of the old CG kits for other people and assembled a couple of the 50cc size ARFs for for customers but never built the Ultimate for myself? I have given all the planes I built there maiden flights and love the plane, don't know why I never built one of my own?
Thunderbolt, if you check with Fiberglass Specialties they may have the cowl and wheel pants in stock, they may also have the canopy?
I did make templates for every part in this old kit but the wings are foam.

That would be fun if had the templates Tower has a lot of the parts on inventory from the CGM aquisition. i just ordered some wing rib sheets for the EX 300 that were missing from box.
Cowl etc are probably still around.
