BOWMAN RING

RE: BOWMAN RING
If you ever run the engine....you may find out it runs OK and does not need a new piston ring. If it runs good...that all that is necessary!!!!!!!

RE: BOWMAN RING
Captn, one engine has never been started, so I guess I'll fire it up and
see what it does, the other engine runs fine but has a persistent miss
that is very annoying and embarrassing at the field, if you know what I
mean. I've tried everything from different gaps in the plug and tweaking
the carb fuel mixture, but the miss is still there. I would like to remedy
that condition. If the Bowman ring will do that I will gladly opt for that
solution. aframe2

RE: BOWMAN RING
Sometimes an annoying miss can be using the original non-CM-6 plug they send with the engine. Those are well-known to create many different issues. If already changed, you may want to ensure that the voltage source to your ignition module isn't "dropping out", particularly if being driven by a regulator/ubec of unknown reliability. I think most of us equate a 'miss' to an ignition-related(or plug) issue.

I have two Dle-30s. One I've had almost three years and the other one just over a year. How will I know if they
have the old ring or the new ring? Aframe2

The miss you experience is not caused by the ring I can assure you. It is an ignition matter.

RE: BOWMAN RING
Changing out the stock ring to a Bowman ring is really about personal choice. Bowman rings will seat tighter and the ring gap is less. These qualities are preferred by many because it will increase the performance of the engine and by a descent amount. My last ring conversion went into a DLE 55 and the top rpm increased approximately 500 rpm. Plus the idle and transition became even smoother. So, "No" it's not a necessity, but is a nice performance mod. Of course this is IMHO and I'm sure others will differ.
But hey, I do this for me.

RE: BOWMAN RING
what battery are you running on that engine with a miss. The older DLE 30's do not like voltages above 5 volts. Even a fully charged 4 cell nimh would give my DLE 30 a miss till the voltage dropped to 5 volts.

RE: BOWMAN RING
Kerwin50, I am using a jr 4.8v ignition battery. Mine goes the opposite way. The first few flights run great with
no miss at all. Then all of a sudden it will start to miss a little on the next flight. Then continue to get worse
on the next succeeding flights. The engine never quits but the miss is annoying. Aframe2

RE: BOWMAN RING
Have you checked the timing on the engine? Too much advance can cause rough running (missing). You and others have mentioned several things that have been checked ... but how a bad plug cap. If the insulation in the cap is damaged or broken down (usually by a rough landing where the cap hits the ground) the engine can run rough with an intermittent miss. You might just try a different ignition just to rule that out a a source of the problem.
