I have FJ with 4S 2600 and HET 2w-20... what prop should I use? thx.
4.5 square is the biggest prop you can use on this motor safely, we run it all the time on 2500mah 4s1p 30c packs, pulls 60 amps or so for around 850-900 watts and has been clocked at 220kmh with prof' radar gun, no guesstimation like so many funjet setups seem to come with I usually run mine with a 4.5 by 4.1 APC prop, with a 2500mah pack the funjet is light and nimble and plenty fast.

Your battery will be fine if its a high quality cell, if its a HK/HC pack then no guarantees, speed costs and you get what you pay for when it comes to electronics, batteries especially.

ya go with what he said 5.1x4.5 my be to much I have never ran the 2w-20 just the 2w
I tend to go bigger on the props and batt's being i am just over 5000 feet and it's hot dry air
I run hot set up's so I also can't fly when the temp is over 70f
if you have a watt meter play with that and some props and watch the amp's to the motor and if you go over the amp's rated for the motor watch the heat and remember to throttle manage

Flew it with square 4.75 prop but with very short bursts, which I will only do till I get my wattmeter. Batteries are new too so just breakin' them in. What Mega or ARC motors do you guys recommend? Have you guys tried the HC/HK 2836 3200kv?

I run the 3200. Havent experimented much.

Run a 5x5 60amp Plush on 3S 2200's.

Amp draw is in the mid 40's range. Dopplers at 95-100.

Got a 3S setup already on another FJ, which I like to fly more.

This 4S one is my speed fix - just got to find the right prop and battery combination. So far my HET setup gives me 5 minutes of conservative flying with good battery reserve. I'm happy with its speed of about 100mph+, would be nice to have another minute or two flight time with out weighing it down to much.

Tower Hobby under apc props ..... look for CF by the prop......... I think they are at the end of the list........ about 10 bucks.....much stiffer and flexs less under top rpm

Just to give you guys a heads up

MicroDan has a motor that will work on reg. ESC. By that I mean in the past if you run 4 cells or more you had to have a ESC with a switch rate of 16 hz.

So he now has one that will work at least with a scorpion brand ESC ( I used a 90 amp)
Numbers
2700kv...... out runner.....stronger mags. then in his current motors...reduced number of mags. on bell.......different wire pattern....with prop on the motor it clicks to each mag. field
makes a very cool sound when it free wheels ( high whine )

4 cells Turnigy 2650 30-40 c 10% used
APC 5.5x4.5 prop
amps 59 -60
watts 750 -800
weight less then 2 oz

Field tested on site using my FunJet...No radar but est speed around 125 mph with tested APC prop unlimited vert...does not slow down at all

Switched motor last night onto Stryker test bed will fly this am as it's due to hit 100 here today

Video to be shot this weekend

So we now have a 60 -70 dollar motor.... lite weight.... will run on 4 cells maybe more...and you can use your ESC not e-flight brand which is limited to 60 amps.
GREAT customer service...will make you a custom motor if you want....Oh and Dan uses perm sealed bearings

STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES!!!!!!!

the motor is now available yet...it will be most likely in 4 four weeks........I and others are testing the motor in many diff. planes etc.

This is his website

http://www.gobrushless.com/shop/

Great motors for a FJ I helped develop the 2900kv which must have a ESC that will switch at 16hz...like a e-flite 60 amp which means your limited to 60 amps......which is why he is developing a new line of motors.......I think this new one may be able to go to a higher cell count........testing will find out.

The HET 2W20 is only 60 bucks and pushes 130-135mph on 4s2600 40c packs with a regular ol 80A esc, runs around 850-900 watts at this level. With a 2500 30c pack its at 125mph.

Ok, I have this setup with a 30C 2650. What prop are you Extreme guys using for those speeds, the 4.5x4.1?

I realized i need a light set-up because my landing area (back yard) is through a couple of trees and then about 90' of grass...

So, what I would like is a 3S set up with the potential to throw in a 4S (and a BEC) if I go to the local field with my larger birds.

I was leaning towards the Typhoon 2W-20 and a 4.75 x 4.75 prop.

I wanted to run it past you guys before i ordered it... Is the Mega 16/15/3 a much better motor and worth the extra 35$

On either motor if I went to the 4S what prop and ESC would you all recommend, I don't need "insane" speed b/c I'm NOT "beefing-up" the planes structure...

Sorry, one more question... Specific battery sizes/manufactures that do and don't fit 3S and 4S?

Thanks ahead of time!

I had the 2W-20 with the 4.75 x 4.75 prop with a 4S setup and it was fast! Loved it until i lost it. With a 3S it should be alittle slower
