yeeaa, and I'm the new guy here, and I don't even own a Saito yet LOL

my friend has a Saito Twin, I'm 98% sure it's a 100, but it's some 15 years old, and I don't think it's been flown for a gallon worth since the bearings were replaced, I was thinking if I got him to sell it, it would be that cat's tail in my .60 size ShoeString (61 inch span)

Old Saitos are like the Energizer Bunny, they just keep going! They are like a Timex watch they can take a linking and keep on ticking!

Someone gave me info a while back on setting up a Saito to run in reverse by using the cam out of a twin. Trying to find the data and available engine list it would work with. I need to set up a 90 +/- as a reverse rotation for a scale project.

Has anyone actually done this? Is so, was it typical in performance? Looking at a twin engine application and I don't like electric personally.

Boat, if I remember this correctly, this cam is the standard one for the 91S, (engine code K) and for the right side of the 1.82.

https://www.horizonhobby.com/cam-gear--right%3A-g-k-dd-ee-as-bm-bn-bv-bs-ca-sai6535a

This is listed as the left cam for the 1.82, (engine code DD)

https://www.horizonhobby.com/cam-gea...Add-sai182td34

I have no sperience with this though.

Gazing upon the 1.82 helps understand why the two cams are different, when the right cylinder becomes the left cylinder, the front cam lobe becomes the exhaust on the left side. I hope that makes some sense.
It's easier to see on the 1.30.

I appreciate it when fellow GearHeads dig into something I haven't gotten into. Of course, I'm, equally into CDI, I now have a Saito high compression .80, a Saito 1.00, a Saito 1.25 and a high compression 1.50 CDI'd. I was going to do a brand new .65 but sold it instead. I have a second 1.00, you may remember the one with the busted out cylinder bolts, I sorta blew it on that one. I spent nearly what the other 1.00 cost new. Oh well.

You saved me some headaches then as I was next in line if you had backed out.

What sort of ignition do modern automobiles/motorcycles/outboard motors/etc have?

If it wasn't for the added weight, I would do CDI in my Cub and Mustang. The Cub can handle it, but the Stang is on the edge for good flight/weight.

Therein lies the drawback of CDI. In small airframes, the area taken up by the module/battery limits practical oseage.

I shoehorned a system into a .40 size high wing trainer and it was borderline. 650Mah "AAA" battery packs will run a single cylinder CDI for over 30 minutes. If the modules and high tension leads could be made smaller, t would make their use in smaller airframes more practical.

A 1/5 scale Cub has plenty of room.
