well now,
since my Saito friends are admitting that they own other engines other than Saitos, I too have a 2 week old confession I have to get off my chest,,
yes yes I wanted badly to buy a Saito 91 for my 60 size ShoeString,, but what I saw for sale was just setting there waiting for ME, like it was "meant to be", yes yes, that's how I feel about it, it was meant to be.. I was always impressed with this engine, and here it was just setting there in front of me with such a low-low-low, low price I could not refuse it, I mean that price was so low I literally snagged it, like catching a fish with a net, I just scooped it up, I feel very lucky,,, only 3 Grams heavier than my 61FX, never started, a bolt in fit, a beautiful, OS 70SZ Heli engine, all I need is a Shoulder Nut and to brake it in on the stand,,,,,, yes-Sir, and I said I wanted to go faster,
there, I confessed, I feel better.
but my only problem now is it's so beautiful I don't want to put it in my re, re, rebuilt ShoeString, I want a slick new Sport Racer (ARF), but I can't find one I like as much as the ShoeString,,, bummer

That reminds me, I still need a 12 ounce tank for my current build. Was going to use a 14, but can't fine the plastic cap and backer for the stopper. It would also be permanent as too wide to slip through F2.

It is my third LASER, I previously had a .70 and a 1.80 V-twin, the V-twin howled like a 283 Chevy at full song turning 16x8 at 9,600. The .70 flew that Kombat 60 with ease on 5% Wildcat. The 1.80 V-twin worked really well having both carbs fed by a single Cline regulator.
Being underwhelmed by an engine with which you have zero experience is underwhelming all by itself. Actually comical.

I'll answer for myself by saying i'm on a saito thread and can bag any other brand with impunity
plus lazer engines look anemic and prone to giving off a lack of eyeball candy.Bit like looking at a harley when you know damn well you should buy the ducati. My dad had a 62 four door chevy bel air with a 283 and a two speed auto, damn thing nearly hit 70mph in first.Amazing for such a heavy car.

There was a good reason for that Pete, the low gear ratio on some Power Glides was 1.76 to 1 and on others it was 1,82 to 1, nearly the same as the 2nd gear in most three speeds. The Ford Cruis-0-Matic was 2.46 low 1.46 2nd and 1 to 1 high and the Chrysler Torgue Flight was, 2.45 low, 1.45 2nd and 1 to 1 in 3rd.
The stock Power Glide torque converter slipped about 10 to 15%.
A total genius told me once that a close ratio transmission had finer gear teeth.
The LASER engines are jewel like whether you're a non fan, underwhelmed or neither.
If we were sitting around the flying field we would be discussing all brands like good buddies would.

Full scale helicopter flying is the manly thing to do, but it doesn't apply to outdoor models. Everyone knows that.
Dave, sheeted foam wings won't look like any Ultracote wing but they are very strong and the balsa sheeting makes the wings look like a real plane, plus they do fly better. I've built a few pre sheeted planes back when CA Models was in the kit business and I enjoyed that building more than stick planes. You have all the options you ever wanted when you draw the aileron patterns on balsa because you can change it any way you want. I shortened the strip ailerons on mine so they didn't run to the wingtips to prevent tip stalls and keep the ailerons in clean air. It's easier to cover balsa sheeting too and easier to use several colors on top of other covering which you pretty much can't do with Ultracote. Good luck on the build.

Fly, I misled you the other day with my picture of the Saito .30 GK, I sold that engine a few years ago and now have two plain Jane's. I loaned one of them to Bill, Robison for his Saito Notes, Bill sent it back with the cylinder painted black as a little joke. So when I traded w8ye for the second .30 I painted it's cylinder black also. I could get gold rocker covers for them though,

Three different 100's, the weight of the two singles and the little gear puller that Dan recommended. I have not used it yet and no need at the moment, but I'm sure I will have.

I just had a thought. Reason I didn't repair the Biper Cub lower wings is because of how much weight it will need in the nose. Since the OS Gemini weighs nearly 3 pounds, maybe I should give it another try with that as the engine.

Hobbsy, I know digital camera's on phones are some times not that accurate with depth, but is the Lazer 100 really that much larger than the Saito 100 ??

hey OF, that cylinder head on the Lazer looks like it would make a cool robot head from a late 60s sci-fi movie, and the Saito head looks like it came off an 1919 9 HP 500cc motorcycle, that gives them character

Agreed.Re the old motorcycles i fired my duke up at sparrow fart this morning and rode about 100 miles southeast of here to an old coal mining town called collie,to watch some classic motorcycle racing.I'm not washing my t shirt yet because it reeks of methanol and castrol arrr!...if only my saitos smelt like that.Maybe i could drop a few spots of diesel fuel on my sunday flying shirt as a second best option.
