Ok ya'll, this thread has been quiet for way to long. Let me throw a question out there....
I have Kadet Jr kit waiting for me to find the time to build it. This winter I will be spending several weeks recuperating from surgery, so I think I will finally dust it off and start in on it. Have any of you out there built/flown a Junior? Recommendations for engines, mods, electric conversions? I'm practitioner of the simpler, lighter, cheaper faith, but always try to keep an open mind and not opposed to bashing a kit.

I currently have a Sig Kadet Jr I fly on a regular basis. It's a typical Sig kit so there are no surprises there. I fly mine with a OS Max 25 up front. It's a well used engine but it still flies the Jr very well. About the only mod I would make next time would be to add ailerons to it. Otherwise to me she flies great just as a standard 3 chanel. I'm not a electric guy so I can't help you there. I got away from flying for a few years and when I came back I went to the Jr to start. I also have a Kadet MKII to fly now as well. And just like a lot of others I have a ugly stik 40 I'll fly again when I get more air time.
I wish you the best in your surgery and good luck on your build. Post some pictures when you get a chance so we get a look at your project.

Y'er right - it's been very quiet around here lately. If everybody's like me, they're busy flying and building (rebuilding).
Good luck with your surgery, hope it goes well.

My Kadet Jr flew for awhile on an OS 25 FP which was plenty of power for three channel aerobatics. I have an OS 26 FS on it now and I'd prefer to have a little more power, though it takes off from grass and flies fine. It's no lightweight either. Jim

I have sadly done no building or flying this summer. Working on my house and airstrip have used up all my spare time since the snow melted. My last build, Sig Aerosportster in the finishing stages, sits untouched since March.
Despite the ease and convenience of electric, I am leaning towards a 2 stroke glow for the Junior. I have over 40 to choose from, including a good selection in the .25 range. My moded Seniorita fly's very wellon super tigre .25 at almost 5 pounds. And yes, ailerons are a must. Maybe flaperons?

Your most modest plain bearing 25 will fly it fine; I agree about ailerons, I might add them to mine. I've never thought flaperons were a good idea; I'd rather have separate flaps.

took out dihedral when I added ailerons to my Kadet Senior.
#3533
Yes, that's good advice if you're building, but to re-do mine and take out the dihedral would be more trouble than it's worth to me. If I do it, I'll just couple in some rudder with the ailerons on the TX. I know it's not the same, but it allows the plane to fly well with ailerons, and you can still cross control with the rudder.

Agreed, my 2 experiments with flaperons didn't work to well. Fortunately they weren't on my planes. My Seniorita has barn door ailerons and slotted flaps. Both work extremely well. I left the dihedral in it's wing because it was a flying test bed for a lot of ideas and I wanted it as stable and forgiving as possible. The Junior will be just for the fun of it, so simple strip ailerons would be the easiest route to take.

My Feedback: (6)
I started my Kadet Sr. this week and ready now to design the ailerons based on the Citabria but not sure if I should use 6 or 7 rib bays as I plan build them up to the rear spar.
Tom, I should asked to see the wing for your Sr. never thought to. Ah, well, got the 24X80 door onto my bench without too much hassle. Sanded the ribs down smooth...they were a wee bit rough from the die cutting.Talked with on of the lads at Sig this afternoon and he convinced me to leave in a bit of diehdral as a flat wing would look droopy. I ordered the cowl this afternoon along with a few other items.
Dang... I found a pair of Cub wheels but missing part of the outer hub assy I have no idea where ????. Ah, well, I plan to use a pair of larger wheels for tundra tires.
And the motor I have is going to be just right: Cobra 4120/16:610 KV.
5S pack and 12X6 APCE : 35A/ 654W/9763 RPM/ pitch speed:55.5/ thrust 105.5 oz.
13X 6.5 APCE: 49.77A/ 920W/ 9215 RPM/ Pitch Speed:56.7/Thrust:129.88oz.
These are not calculated but real test results that Lucien Miller ( Inov8tive Designs)conducted.
Probably won't get much done tomorrow as I have to replace a storm door....don't know how long that will take.

Jolly
We can look at my wing the next time you stop by. I probably have a set of tires that may provide that "Tundra Look", too.
Here's a link to my Kadet Senior build. It should have pics of how I built the ailerons. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/kit-...ior-sport.html

I'm building a pair of JRs right now, one for tricycle gear, the other for floats. Both are getting three bay wide 25% chord barn door ailerons. The only other changes are the tricycle plane gets it's dihedral reduced to 1/2", the float gets reduced to no dihedral and gets an extra bay on each wing as well as an OS .35, both to help handle the weight of the floats. If you're going to add ailerons, it would be better to reduce the dihedral as, otherwise, they will be fighting each other every time you use them

Well it started life with a qudra 42. And a idea to haul a glider on its back hence the twin tail. But I bought it in the bones and the guy kept tue engine. So i put a OPS maxi 30 on and flew it a few times and just couldn’t grasp the no nitro thing. So i put a mokie 1.8 on and that was a little more fun but at at 20oz a flight didn’t take long to go wow that’s expensive. So it sat for a couple years and thin i put the OPS back on and thought I could make that work and I could say i know how to get an maxi 30 to run. Well after a couple attempts i gave up. A freind gave me a qudra 42 lol well it needed work and i lost interest. I houng it up for the last 10 years. Now with the new gas engine’s and a intrest in towing glider’s I thought heck i will revive the old girl and hang a Dle 55 on it Should be able to fly all day in 20oz. Lol.
Still have a little to do but it will fly again. I posted another pic with the wing on tomorrow but here it is with the cowl.

I know what you mean, I just bought two 4K TV's, a 43" and a 55", both together cost less than the first 37" HD TV I got 10 years ago. I still have my last tube tv, a 27" flat screen that cost more then the 43" I just got.

Backed the trailer up to the door and a rope and some rappelling gear and lowered down the stairs
the top half with no drawers we just carried down.
What i am concerned about is getting them back out to put in the new shop some day
