They are $30 each.
JR Sport ST47 or ST47BB would be all you need for this plane.
I would get the BB though as the extra $3 each is well worth it for the ball bearing.

Granted, the set up in the instructions make this biplane the docile bipe trainer that makes it soo famous. However..... She can be set up to kick anyones A**!!!!! Put the right power on it, adjust the cg, increase throws, utilize your computer radio, and it is only a FRACTION of a step below the performance of an Ultimate bipe. My next one will have a YS 1.10 on it.
The tail of this plane tracks so straight, I can't stop grinning every time it's airborne. It is the quintessential "Flying on Rails" airplane everyone dreams of. I was flying it in 12+ mph winds and it cut through the wind like butter.
So- Don't be skimpy on your equipment, you'll thank yourself for putting only the best and strongest and fastest in it. I also recommend utilizing a 6 volt battery. It is worth it.

Well my Hog Bipe is getting closer to completion.
I decided to keep the color scheme pretty simple on this one.
I still need to add the pin stripe on the leading edge of the wings.
The landing gear and the cabanes still need to be painted too.
Maybe someday it will actually be finished :-)

I did not realize why this scheme looked somewhat familar to me, but you are right is does sorta look like a Coast Guard color scheme.
As far as the floats go, it sounds like a good idea on paper, but introducing another moving element into my landings would not be the the best interest of the airplane :-)

That thing is Sick!!!!
So I've been out of the game a while, but how do you go about covering....are the graphics stickers, paint, coating?
When I usually cover a plane it makes all the hard work I've done end up looking like crap! Any advice?

I use monokote to cover.
for the trims i used monokote trim. wich is a sticker type.
after i put the trim in place i use an iron to seel the trim in place for good.
if its a trim that has good contact area (leading edge..), without risk of air tearing it off, or fuel breaking it loose- I use regular monokote.
in any way, starting form the back to the front keeping all seems facing backwards.
here is my bipe.

I just finished the touch up work this morning where the masking was not quite right and I will spray paint a final coat of clear dope on the whole thing in a few days. Since each coat of the dope melts into the previous one trying to brush paint across the different colors would cause bleed over so I plan to use a aerosol can of Sig high gloss clear for that.
There are some amazing covering / paint jobs in this thread that I really admire.
A lot of the folks really make their planes into works of art.

Finally bolted mine together for the first time with the paint applied.
There are a couple of finishing touches to be added like painting the wheels and putting a frame around the windshield but you can see how it is going to look.
I still have to install the control horns but everything else is ready to go.

I am getting ready to covermy hog bipe, I am using ultracote. Looking at your pics of the engine area, it looks like you just painted that area? Can you just paint over the wood? My astro hog I thinned epoxy and when it dried used dope to paint for fuel proof. You plane looks perfect for covering, mine has small areas that have wrinkles that I could not seem to get completely bout with the heat gun. I really want the hog bipe to come out nice. I have spent alot of time sanding smooth. Always looking for advice on how to cover as I have only 2 planes under my belt.

Just an update....
I have brought the hog bipe up to the flield 2 or 3 times. With 10 or so flights, I can say she flies like a champ! The saito 100 has oodles of power for this plane.
Im the one who takes the pictures, so I dont have any in flight pics. May be next week I'll have someone else fly it so I can take some pictures of her up in the air...

I used Koverall, then nitrate dope, then butyrate as the top coat.
My problem is the cured dope dissolves with alcohol.
It is not fuel proof.
Have I missed something ??
Does it require a clear topcoat, and if so how will this really help ?

Do you clean your plane off good after flying?
What percentage of nitro are you using?

I am using 15% nitro right now and 10% does the same thing, I can't tell much difference between the two.
I think it is the alcohol that is doing it. I found out ISO alcohol will dissolve the butyrate when I used it to wipe off an oily smudge.
My experience with the Slow Poke I bulit last year was about the same, the dope is not greatly affected by the exhaust residue, but raw fuel will immediately "stain" it and if not wiped up quickly will begin to dissolve it.
I wipe the planes down after a flight with a Windex moistened paper towel on all the places that collect fuel residue, and give them a complete cleaning at the end of the day using Windex on paper towels.

for my .02, why not use solartex fabric ? with a little practice, u can cover a golf ball with this stuff, and it is much easier than mixing up a bunch of paint, and probably weighs less too. see below, solartex wings and century 21 fues's. both have been regular flyers since 1999.
