RC Surfer Wreck at "Shipwrecks" Today

Went back at 11:30.
Surfed 3 packs on the low tide.
It was sick.
Hit the reef heading out on the left side.
Jumped a wave and heard a loud thud.
Board stopped out at the peak.
Had to grab my board for a rescue.
All I could think about was all the shark stories especially that one today.
Got the guy about 50m out.
Paddled in and cut my finger on the reef about 30 feet off shore, it is like razor.
One of the brass water ports is bent over at the tip and the prop and shaft is gone.
Not a problem have more spares.
Photos from this morning have just arrived.

Hey Guys,

Here are a few pics from our new spot "Shipwrecks" this morning.
It was onlysmall and inconsistantbut still heaps of fun, can't wait to get it on a bigger swell.
The tide was high and it was not really happening until later on but we were very lucky to get any shots at all today.

Hey JIMI

Great pics - the last picture really spells it out - A- W- E -S -O -M -E - SPOT.

The more I read and hear about these Great white attacks - the more appealing rc surfing becomes................ it would be something to capture a Great White 'breaching' as it takes out my Bro'Surfer on film.........................no doubt the footage would go Viral........

Enjoy the surf tomorrow - I'm hoping the wind will swing around and drop off...............................

Dom,
You are right.
The last pic gives a clue to the type of spot this really is.
No white water to contend with when heading out.
The left you can just see is even better than the right.
There is a really shallow suckrock halfway along the left, so you take off at the peak and race down the line, after the first turn you see it starting to dredge out on the rock just down the line a bit.
Then you just race into the suck out section and the bottom just drops right out of it (the board actually drops someimes) and you duck through for a quick barrel section.
That is where I hit the reef yesterday.
Jumped a wave racing out for a set and it landed right where the rock was dredging because there was a bigger wave right behind the one I jumped.
Going there again in an hour or so and it should be a bit bigger today.

Surfers had to flee the water at "Wedge Is" again yesterday when they saw a very large fish heading straight towards them.

Hi Guys !

Some R&D results from my current Board #4 build....

Oh @#$%............... that's not working........................LOL

With poor weather over the weekend ( no surfing) I got a chance to fit all the running gear into the board for a prelim test !

A definite NO GO................................ thats development for you....

The problem - - due to the prop been positioned to act as a 'surface drive prop' - the rotational torque is increased dramatically - ( not running any torque trim tabs)

Running straight and turning right is no problem

BUT ! - the moment I turn LEFT - due to the increased torque rotation acting on the V hull - the hull rolls over to the right - the hull rolls over so much so, that the rail becomes submerged and as I accelerate in the turn, the board is driven completely under water.........becomes a submarine.........!

So ! Back to plan B...........Still running the V hull - but - with a submerged prop set up - aft cut away that facilitated the Surface drive prop filled in.

Deduction ?.................No more surface drives then.............................

Regards
Dominic (Bro'Surfer)

He has been surfing with a snapped knee and totally blown out inside rear foot for ages.

Worth a try Dude.

Jimi's Surf Report

4 to 6 foot swell and offshore in Gero.

Luke and I surferd 1 to 2 foot "St Georges" early on the high tide.
Ran 4 packs and got heaps of fun lefts.
Went home for an hour and then we went and surfed sick reef to beach rights at "Medalia" for an hour and a half.
Lukes Dude's foot is splattered.

This thead really needs a 1st post edit or FAQs and links like other products, but I'm sure the OP probably has a life. I did try searching for vendor links for models and didn't come up with much, except for the high-buck surfers, but if you're looking for a cheap knock-off to upgrade, Banggood carries a version for 66 bucks shipped:

http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-No...0487522012019E

Apparently made by NQD:

Hey Crew,

You should have seen it today.
4 to 6 foot perfection on the Batavia coast.
"Shippies" was 2 to 3 foot and breaking on reef just barely under the surface.

Just ought 3 white NQD's for $197.95,
If I keep surfing at "Shipwrecks" I am gonna need 'em.

Surfed there today, it was sick.
Biggest, cleanest, most consistent and gnarliest yet.

Racing the barrel section full throttle on the inside ledge today, sucked dry and the board stopped dead in its tracks.
Only a few scratches.
Next wave narrowly missed doing the same thing rode right through the inside and could see the reef coming out of the surface just behind the board.

Had to stop after 4 packs due to the rapidly receeding tide. LOL.

Wish Bob was there.

My pleasure. It looks like Aaron just added this to his inventory.so it will probably ship from the manufacturer and once there's enough orders, he'll start stocking them in-house. Please use a gmail account if you want tracking info\updates. I couldn't get updates using my Road Runner account as I think their ISPcould be blocking it. If you have any issues with your order PM Aaron directly: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=382644

I'll tell him to start an account over here. Aaron's a good guy, just remember that it may take up to 3 weeks due to customs\China Post, but people have been getting their orders in a timely manner recently.

Just spoke to Aaron and he had to raise the price a little bit to cover shipping. Price is now $69, but that's still a good deal.

Why don't you look at the pictures that I linked like everyone else. You do know that most people that buy RTR items usually buy them for a reason right? If you think this product is going to take away from your business........whatever. People that have the time and conviction to build their own hulls from scratchare still going to do it.

There are those that aren't willing to build from scratch, but are more than willing to take a pre-made hull and swap out components as it's easier to do than a scratch build.

Then there's people who buy something because it's very cheap, they don't know if they're going to like it, but they're willing to give it a try because if they don't like it or something happens to it, they're not out of alot of investment.

I wouldn't even buy an expensive model or sink awhole lot of money into something I didn't even knowI was going to like. I'm not into surfing nor really have any interest in the RC surfer myself, but guess what.............I'm alot more apt to experiment on trying something that only costs 70 bucks than I am something I have to build from scratch and\or costs twice as much.

I bet, that thischeapChineese knock-off may actually increase your business. Why? It will bring more entry-level consumers into the RC boating scene and some of those entry-level consumers may decide down the road they want something better and more customized..........that's where you come in.

It's funny that the first two negative replies come from an RC Surfing vendor and the next from "THE CLUB OF RC SURFING AT PRO LEVEL".  Wow, the "Professional Sport of RC Surfing"...........you all have to pay dues?  Do you go out and beat up amatuers who RC surf on your turf like in Point Break?

Why are you people attacking this guy?
He is only sharing a link to a cheap alternative to cutting up surfboards.?

You guys like to make custom boards and I think that is great.
I like to take leaky crap and make it work.

Just for the record.
I have a chinese surfer that I run really hard 8 packs a day on 1 to 3 foot reef surf  and it surfs well and comes home perfectly dry.

I took offense when a neewbe on his third post to our forum attacks a long time contributor with his comments...

Why don't you look at the pictures that I linked like everyone else.

why not be nice and say the antenna is clearly visible in the photos I linked to....it's the curly wire protruding from the hatch cover.

NOOOO...lets get aggro!

........whatever.

I personally don't care what kind of Surfer you Surf...as long as you Surf.

I'm not into surfing nor really have any interest in the RC surfer myself, but guess what.............
I'd like to fill in the blank...

But then JustAddWater would be at my door.

Thanks for the link...please let us know when your board arrive.

Sorry to have offended you, did not mean to sound so negative. I started with two Chinese Lisa's. i agree They are a good inexpensive way to see if you like the hobby,, the only problem is unless your jimi, you get water in it and shorts out,,, we are hoping the auseys are going to make one that works right out of the box,
