I run 3s with the new 4800 castle in the 2.4 Firestormand it's fine. So 4600 should be a cinch.

The only time Ihad any temp issues were when running off road, but the ESCwas still only at 150 max. The motor never went above 120 with 19/87.

Ichucked an 18t on now that I'm mainly driving off road and not as interested in top speed and the ESCtemps dropped to between 90 and 100*F. The motor is still at only about 120. Ichecked the max speed out of curiosity with the 18t and still got 45mph max speed. My body posts have been worn down from flipping at high speed and sliding on the roof now.

The new version of the FS has a newer generation ESC, I would expect it to handle 3s better than the SW1 which has been  discontinued or is likely the new duratrax ESC.

Hell of a storm last night hey Rob, I am still waiting for my front upright to show up and I have a new bearing set to put in. not sure why my setup runs hot (175f) I run 19/87 on-road with a Mamba Max esc and a 4600kv 2 pole motor on 3s. I also have the ESE heatsink motor plate, only thing I can think of is the 2.8 30 series tires and rims maybe have more drag...I may replace the 4600kv with a 4800kv 4 pole someday...

I heard about the big storm but we missed it.  There was an hour or so of light rain with lightning in the far distance and that was about it.  I was away today and will test the 2-pole 4600 tomorrow.

I put the 2-pole 4600 in the other firestorm. Its very different than the 4-pole. 88/18 gearing, mamba max pro, 5Ah 35-60C battery, torque control 8, punch contro 60%. Same punch and torque settings and battery I use on the 4-pole. Its way way faster. The 4-pole has more torque, has less speed and runs a lot cooler. The 2-pole ran up to 170 tonight. I need to gear it down more and likely will turn the torque control down more.

I'm should run the wires through the shock towers...

The ESC worked fine but can't run sensored motors well any more for some reason. Should be fine in the blitz when I run an SCT 3800 motor.

Thats the kitchen table. My wife has a sarcastic, kitchy style. One is a T-bone and the other is from the guy on ebay, I can't remember the name. I don't recommend the aluminum one. It bends, is heavy and is narrower.

I put road rage tires on to bring the gearing down a little to save heat.

Went out with the shorter diameter tires on the 2-pole and temperatures were at 170 within 15 minutes.  It was a hard, wide-open run.  The 4-pole runs much cooler.  I can see how they put a 4-pole in the new brushless storm and are comfortable with people running 3s on it.

poles are the number of magnets inside the motor. more magnets means it has more pulling power resulting in more torque.

I see. . .  soo along with the right ESC+batt+Kv=? ualso can get more out from diff magnet numbers. . . . I see so with more poles there is more heat

well, technically there's no need to get any higher than a 2 pole, but power hungry people AKA Nitro-Rob, haha, want as much power as possible, so they get a higher poled motor. my VXL system works great for bashing. and remember you can always control torque/speed and temps. with gearing, so a 2 pole will work fine in most applications, it just may be a little low on torque.

With 4 pole you won't only have higher torque, but also acooler motor .And you'll be able to gear higher(higher top speeds)

I hope to put the gun to as soon as my buddy is free. There is no 3-pole, they have to be in even pairs since each battery has a N and S pole.
The 4-pole has a lot more torque and runs a lot cooler. It has stronger braking and a more of a natural brake off throttle. The 2-pole makes a lot more heat and seems to be a lot more 'rangy' than the four. There is a six pole out there for 1/8 systems, I forget who makes it.
Here is an explanation of poles:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOWf3P9D41Y
I can't believe the difference between 2 and 4 pole and sensored versus unsensored.

how high do you think you could gear the 4 pole before you hit 175f?

I bet 83/23 would put things on or near the edge with heat.  You definitely wouldn't be able to run wide open all the time with that setup.

I am thinking of going 88/20 or 88/21 for every day driving from the 88/19 it has now.  The gun says 51 with my current setup.

OOOOHHHHH. . . sooooo More poles= less strain on motor= less heat makes sence. I would venture in to that world unless i get a new storm one that ill hop up for speed. Sides most of those arent water proof and i love snow and rain bashing ^__^
The next few posts ill finally be able to upload pics shes been through a lot including yest another bulk head snap so im done till fall

Ok first set of pics are me adding spings to the front but i wanna know do you guys think soter springs are better for bashing to put most of the force in to the shocks while rolling and flipping?
