I used JR ds3401 but still need little modifications to the servo plastic mount and the servo itself

The cover is designed for the Futaba 3150:
Dimensions: 1.14" x 1.18"x 0.42" (29 x 30 x 10.8mm)

Any servo of this dimension that outputs 50 oz.in of torque will be suitable.

We do not recommend trimming the cover as it's strength would be compromised.

The complete flight control computation is available in the download tab on the product description page.

question on moving CG to rear most position on Phoenix..

original install CG was more forward , I am in process of moving it rearward some each flight , no BIG changes as i am moving it slowly to rear setting so far.

question is ?? ... will it get alot more unstable flying in a big jump as i near the rear most CG setting ?? ,,, or will their keep being gradual changes closer i get to rear CG setting ?

just do not want to reach critical stability and not be able to land while changing CG to rear.

where is CG for others flying Phoenix ?

thanks, Joe

Hi Joe.
The plane will become more maneuverable, but not unstable.
You will also notice that you will be able to snap stall it at its most aft CG position.
The plane is designed so that you cannot fly it in the unstable CG range. The reason is that in that range, the plane would fall on its tail while sitting on the ground with an empty tank.
So it would be impossible to taxi it with an almost empty tank...

What I would recommend you to do, to get used to this setup, it to do a high speed pass, pull vertical and snap stall it with full aileron and rudder in the same direction. Let the plane stop in the air and apply full thrust while pulling full up to keep the nose to the vertical.
The plane should enter what I call its "auto stable nose up regime" where you'll be able to hover it.

This is the only plane in the world capable of hovering without vector thrust and without gyros. So enjoy it...

Hi Oli,

thanks for details... so this brings another question ...

"The reason is that in that range, the plane would fall on its tail while sitting on the ground with an empty tank "

so for a quick rear CG check in the field ? ... with no fuel, if i push the tail of phoenix to ground then let go and the nose wheel falls to the ground , would this indicate CG is flyable ?

or by chance have you put scale on nose wheel at rear most CG , see what scale indicates ?

just curious , I was looking for quick way to check for rear most CG while at field.

thanks, Joe

Just picked up mine from Fed-ex today. Here's a couple of unboxing pics! Looks like it got here without being damaged.

In theory, yes.
However, I moved the location of the landing gear a bit aft from the Mk1 design, so I'd rather you keep going with a gradual shift of the CG till you reach the point where the plane almost fails on its tail when empty.
Also let me know if you manage to hover it. The Kingtech being heavier and bulkier than the desing engines, it might be a bit different in that configuration.

Hey Oli...
Is there any chance of you posting the other colour scheme's on here.
I understand there is for example, a Blue Angels scheme. I haven't seen it yet!
I'm getting close now to ordering one from you, as the move to Hong Kong is nearly over.... so I can start thinking of new toys
Just a top & bottom shot of all the scheme's would be great please.
Many thanks,
Mort

Hi Mort.
The Blue Angels scheme is not yet available for the SuperPhoenix. We should get the first one at the end of January.
I just received the grey/ red one and will post pictures hopefully tomorrow.
The other ones are Swiss scheme, black/ yellow and full white.

I will be in HKG on the 27th of January BTW.

I want to paint the servo covers to match the color of the airframe. Is there any special paint I need to use that will not hurt the covers? White covers on a yellow and black airplane would look silly!

You can spray the covers with Bondo automotive aerosol primer. Keep the coat light and it will be fine with the plastic. Then pretty much any kind of paint would be suitable.
