RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Daddy sam, Thank's-turn's out it is the program's my wife has on this comp not RCU'S site. Ok now that thats worked out, this picture is of the wing on the plans. If you can see the lines I have drawn, the top line is +2 degs incidence at the front, the middle is 0degs and the bottom is +2 at the rear. Adding to the rear makes the wing to close to the bottom of the belly, therefore I believe it has to be added at the front. Was looking for a little confirmation from more experienced than myself before cutting all the crutches.
Still can use any advice.
It's a wonderful life, enjoy!

Acerc,
I just built as per the book and plans, and put the crutches where they indicated. I "assume" (and yes I know what that can mean) that the fuse wing and stab saddles would set the correct incidence given that this is a kit. On my plans-buillt planes I'll be checking very carefully.

Hi Acerc,
I've been researching the TF GS Corsair. I plan to begin the build in the fall. Anyway, one of the documents I put together is based on various rcu memebers input regarding the Corsir's incident. If you want a copy,PM me your email address. I'd be happy to attach it and send it your way.
Happy building,
Jim

DADDYSAM, normally I would do the same but I read somewhere way back in this thread proper inicedence made the plane more manageable(especially at landing). And was more scale like. I have a Hanger-9 sorsair it has no inicedence and seems to need excess speed to land. Of course thats just my opinion, could just be my flying ability?

O.K. now the fuelage is covered. Thank's JazzRC for the incidence info. On to the next question, need to install the whells so as to finish the whellwells before covering. I bought my robart 148's from an individual- no axels. The landing gear are threaded, Robart say's to use a 1/4-20 bolt. I dont see a wheel lasting very long turning on a bolt's thread's. Any suggestion's, advice, or opinion is appreciated.

Use a 1/4 20 that is not threaded all the way, just were the threads are needed. The wheel can turn on the smooth part of the Bolt. Kevin.

Acerc,
As far as different color schemes - check out GaryM's corsair. He did a nice "one-off" corsair that really stands out!
Earlier, somebody posted this photo below. I wish I remembered who it was, but the paint job on this plastic model caught my eye.

Hi Guys
Both color schemes are good, but like Tbolt said if you plan on going to a warbird fly in ther may be some that would not alow it, The good thing is they both would be easer to see.
The outher thing is just keep your bird in closer

Hello fellow flyers,
I have been following your posts for quite some time now and takeing in all of your good info. I started my corsair about three weeks and have the tail feathers and almost all of the center section built. Picked up on the lighting holes in elev. and rudder as well as rounding of the rudder top. Aware the the wing tips need to be tapered and behilnd the cockpit needs to be rounded more. I am courious about the +2 degrees of angle of attack on the wing. I could not find the post as to the best way to do this. I understand it helps on landing and this is something I can always use. Thanks for hearing me out.

If you have not gotten to far with your fuss build, you might want to look at post's 84 and 86 about lighting holes, and do everything you can to keep the tail lite.
Post pic's of your build

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Ok Guys
A coupla of things first, On my first bird I built out of the box and to the instruction manual, It flew ok not great (tail was not up like a corsairs should be) it was also real squirely just befor tuch down wanted to snap to the left.
So on my current bird this is what I did during the build, I used the building plain the you build the halfs to as my data line/thrust line what ever you want to call it, but every thing was set to that line, as you biuld the upperhalf first all of the ply parts in the tail I filled full of lighting holes and set the stab base (page 25 step 22) ai 2 deg's positive (or frunt up) I used a robart incidence meter for this.
Then when I did the lower half and both lower crutch's were finishes ,clamped them back to back, I used a hand cut rib (pc of 3/16 hard salsa) with a C/L thru the dowel, and the trailing edge. cut the rib in half along the C/L, I then set the half rib in the crutch's, sanded them till I had the c/l of the rib a 1 deg positive incidence, and then just built per the plans and the manual.
This sounds like a lot of work but I think it took me all of 20min to do.
Hope this helps you current builders
cheers Bob T

Well I got the fiberglass parts in today from ACP composites. Very nice, definetely better than making ones own. Rounded the front of fuse and looks like plenty of room for airflow. Waiting on canopy rails to finish the fuselage. Now to cover the wings , before I do- what do you guys think of the internal control system for flaps and ailerons? Are they strong enough or what?
