hey velt , i sent sepp an E , yes i heard bates was working on a proto cowl , but when i eeed
him , he didnt mention it . AS far as the scale size goes it should fit , but you know how the should thing goes. i'm going to be at 84.5 or 85 inches and i think sepps is 82 0r 3, fuse length is
about the same, i'll have to see what happens

RE: Vailley Tempest Build Thread
Hi Guys
An update on the Tempest build................or lack of it
I have decided to build a new wing rather than try and fix the badly warped wing and in the process of trying to track down local laser cutter I came across a nice young bloke who has just set up a laser cutting business here in Melbourne, he is scanning in the entire plan set and will be offering laser cut formers and ribs .
His work is excellent and by far the best I have seen .................so I am waiting on a complete laser cut rib set so I can get stuck into the new wing......this will probably be around a month away........so in the interim I have started on the 96" Spitfire......(as if i needed another project ) which is progressing nicely .
For the guys in Australia looking for a laser cutter contact details below
http://www.sparclaser.com.au/contact_rc.html
cheers

RE: Vailley Tempest Build Thread
hey Alan,
the website looks pretty good. Is he resonably priced? I have a plan or two that could use being laser cut, because the cost of the laser cut parts and shiopping from the UK is pretty high.
Thanks
dave

G'day Dave
Give Paul a call to discuss , he is building up a data base of Airborne plans at the moment, not sure of pricing as he says he cannot possibly charge for all the time he spends on scanning in plans (40+ hours on the average 40 size model) , I have done a bit of a contra deal giving him the full Tempest plan set so he on sell later....not sure what the ribs will cost me but hell it sure beats cutting them by hand
I had no idea how much work was involved with scanning and then cleaning up the images in autocad and then scaling to the correct size before the laser cutting can start (that is the easy bit), very complex work to do correctly as the plans are scanned then all superflous lines and note etc removed. Each component is then redrawn entirely, checked for size and then arranged on a template for best fit to maximise the number of parts on each sheet of ply to minimise wast..........this is incredibily detailed and laborious work . Paul had just finished the giant scale Tucano at around 90" span from Airborne plans and the fuselage box and wing saddle fitted together and was incredile strong with no Gglue !!......His work it is brilliant.
cheers

RE: Vailley Tempest Build Thread
Hi Guys
I'm now resurrecting my old build thread on my Vailley Tempest, after taking 12 months off this project to work on my 96" Spitfire which is now ready to fly, I'm now ready to get stuck into the Tempest wing construction. I had the ribs laser cut by a young bloke here in Melbourne (Paul from Sparc Laser) and his work is brilliant, the fit and accurancy is the best I have seen .
The larger balsa ribs two big for the standard sheeting size are cut in two pieces and Paul use "puzzle" joints to lock the pieces together.
To refresh your memory, I bought this half finished model from a guy in Brisbane who had already built the wing and partly framed the fuselage, I have now basically completed the fuse build with only the cowl mounting to finish (I built that a year ago) however the wing was found to have a huge warp build into it [:'(] as such I have to build another.
So here goes.......

Thanks Brad
Yep need to get the Tempest finished by March next year due to an impending arrival of a our first bub ...[X(]....which will keep me out of the shed for a few months .....quite unexpected but apparently kids are a good thing.
Almost finished framing the centre section and now starting on framing the outer panel........gotta build, gotta build, gotta build ......where's my glue......gotta build
cheers

Hi Al, a quick question re the tempest. Would the local laser cutting guy be able to reduce all the relevent bits to make a 80 inch wingspan wing???? I have a glass fuse for such a model and would love to get a decent wing kit to suit. Cheers Trent

G'day Trent
No reason why not he has all the wing ribs etc on Auto CAD so he should be able to scale it down and cut you a wing kit . I can provide the plan that you can have copied and scaled down.
Give Paul a call
cheers

Hi Guys
A little more progress on the wing, the centre section is now framed and sheeted on the top and trial fitting of the u/c.
Next job is to work on servo mounts for the the flaps and the inner gear doors
Stay tuned

Ok Trent - some evidence that I have been working on the Tempest .................and not just standing in the shed sipping Vino !
Here are the flaps under construction..........next step is to install servos and test the travel, then onto the u/c doors.

Excellent !!............I need some inspiration as the project has stalled twice
Only 38 lbs?................wow how did you keep it so light............most I have heard of fly at well over 40 lbs due to the amount of lead required to balance?

Hey Pete
hmmmm I be too frightened to disclose the true $$$ to the bride ...............she doesn't venture into the shed too often
I had to do some repairs to the TF Jug..........hit a rabbit hole in the middle of the strip on landing which flipped it over and snapped the vert stab[:@]..............an easy fix , just need to patch and repaint but this takes away time form the Tempest[:'(]
