RE: My backyard tri-oval
I just recently made a ramp for my front yard in the grass. I run it out there some times with cones and it's all portable obviously.
I don't know what its called, but its like what cardboard boxes are made out of, but its plastic. Its light, weather-proof, and pretty durable with a little duct tape. I think you can get it at home depot really cheap. The piece I used was from a sign made out of that material.
My track is still full of water. Debris (leaves, sticks, grass) is sticking to the mud and floating in the water.[&o] It rained last night and is supposed to rain tomorrow night.[:@]

Gex, thats exactly the same material my mini jumps are made of. its abo****ely awesome; flexible, strong, light and weatherproof.
they use them for all types of signs. all of mine were old liquor adverts.

Here are some pictures of my updated carpet track since I got new carpet. I inverted the color for each picture also to give a better outline of the track.

Yea that would be a blast but I think ill just use some Round-up then rake the dead grass up on the track area, it would take forever to shread the grass up with a mini.

RE: My backyard tri-oval
That is true.
I have no clue how to get rid of grass besides that. My track always has a little grass on it. I have to get it out with a hula-ho. Round up doesn't work for me. I used half a bottle and not much happened at all, so good luck with that one.

You have to use farm grade roundup, that crap you get at walmart is watered down too much, the farm grade consentrated ( no water you must mix it $10.00 a Quart) will make approx 50 gallons. if you want to try it i can mail you enough to make a gallon. Or with the walmart stuff mix a little vegtable oil with it so it dont evap off the grass so quick, we use crop oil mixed with it. one other good application is you can spraw the lawn (burmuda grass only) for weeds in the winter with roundup and it wont kill the grass because its dormant.

RE: My backyard tri-oval
hmmm.....
I may have to try the vegetable oil some time raptornut aka: grass expert. You would probably need it more than me with all that room. I go out once a week and it doesn't take long to cut a couple patches out, then i'm good.
My track is just big enough for my xxx-bk2 buggy. If I can start going out there more often, I will be able to keep the grass down with the extra torque.

RE: My backyard tri-oval
Im not sure yet, looking for ideas. I have enough room to either make a fast track or sharp corners where you gotta slow down, I was thinking of a fast track larger corners to take at a high speed, I seen this one on the offical track thread It looks pretty cool. but I would make the corners larger to take at a higher speed, Although if I make it too big you would only get a few laps per battery, My daughter was taking the jump at full speed and clearing the other side of the jump with her stock MLST. The angle is about perfect the fruck lands level on all 4 wheels

RE: My backyard tri-oval
It's time for a track update.
I just changed it this weekend but realized i didn't post my last track. Nothing to bad. I have some nice mini-t jumps in the middle that are perfectly spaced out. The back corner has 3 angled whoops.

RE: My backyard tri-oval
Here's my new up to date track. I love it. A little more tichnical than my last track and as you can see we liked the whoops. There are now 6 and with the right timeing you can do 3 small doubles. I have 2 of our 3 buggies running includeing my xxx-bk2 and my grandpa's B3. This track is just big enough to where we can race each other.
We will try to get 3 buggies running by June so we can begin an offroad season after 5-6 years of oval racing. What better way to practice, if I still need any. LOL
As for my mini-t. The gears completely striped out and my diff failed. It's in kit form but I plan to have it ready by this week.

My buggy after racing in the rain. Notice the mud patterns. I never flipped it, just rain and loose dirt that was kicked up while cornering. And yes a new body for a newly finished buggy. I also did the B3 in the pics.[>:]
Fist time useing an airbrush, not bad if I say so myself.

haha gex ive seen most of your pictures of your tracks and i noticed that your getting better and better at building them. I have a tiny oval track in my back yard that i made in the excitement prior to getting my first car. Its got a triple and a long double. it would be perfect for a mini but its a little small for my brushless rustler. Ill put some pictures up after i finish fixin it.

RE: My backyard tri-oval
thanks,
I have new pics to put on to. I am mainly using it for my xxx-bk2 right now. I hope nobody minds. My mini-t diff is messing up right now and I have also been using it on the street. I found 2 new sets of street treads for $5.00 each at a hobby shop near the coast.
I am looking into some lights for night racing. Nothing fancy now but I have one very bright light out there now. It lights up the whole track.[X(]
Pics coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: My backyard tri-oval
so heres the deal, my track is completely gone. I leveled it to make room for a new and improved track. Me entire backyard is dirt.(other than the pool) its about 20" x 30" (i know its small) with a 10 x 10 extention off of one of the corners. Oh and there is a hge tree in the middle so on of the turns is completely blind no biggie. thats what im thinking but what do you guys think would be cool?

RE: My backyard tri-oval
That's actualy a big space. Mine is around that size. Just about all of my track is 5ft. wide or less and my front strait is 6ft. wide in the last pics.
Are you planning to run a mini or a 1/10 scale on it. I run both. I have never tried my truck which would be a little wider than my buggies but the buggies have no problem on it. I'm interested in the technical stuff anyways.
I would sit down and draw up some plans on graphing paper. Make each little square equal to about 1ft X 1ft. and get a more accurat measurment of your track area. Thats about the easiest and best way to do it. I usually draw some out and when I am building it, I make little changes til it's the way I want it.

RE: My backyard tri-oval
Wait till you guys see my 1/18 dirt track that I just built. It is SUHWEET !!!. I call it CedarTree 1/18th Racepark cause it is completely shaded by cedar trees. It's got a nice big 180 degree berm that feeds into a nice medium sized tabletop which opens up into a nice wide lefthander, into a straigtaway, on the throttle hard as you hit a series of jumps where just the bottom falls out and take her wide as you enter the big berm. It's non-stop heartpunding Mini LST racing at its finest. !!!! Summer time is here, the lights have been installed and you better beleive their is gonna be some Saturday night heat races this year...!!!!! Complete with hot dogs, popcorn and beer

RE: My backyard tri-oval
i have a little more room than i thought i did. i could either make it technical and have 4 1/2 foot lanes. or i could keep it wide and have big triples. since were going to be racing on it with 3 cars i think ill do wide with bigger jumps. I have a rustler with a novak brushless and esc and my friends drive xxx-t's. so even if it is wide its going to be small forour cars but i like the idea of having a place to drive so close. driving in the street is boring and there are hardly any tracks in phoenix unless you want to sweat it out in 110 degree heat.i might not even make a track just put a big triple in my backyard and some bumps here and there. who knows
