Haven't been following this thread for a few days. WOW! THAT THING LOOKS GREAT!
Fishy? Maybe. But I like it. Looks slick as heck!
I suspect it'll fly just fine. It looks like it's got a fine set of proportions.

Thank you, Bruce! The moments/incidences/thrustline/tail area, etc. are borrowed from what is known to work well with larger models. We'll have to see how all that pans out in a small package with the long nose.
As the moderator of the aerodynamics forum, how does the longitudinal location of the prop, or source of thrust and torque, effect the rest of an airframe? Does it alter flight characteristics much if the prop is close to the wing's LE, for example? I'd imagine propwash on a rudder is slightly stronger with a shorter plane. I'm really curious to see how stable this plane is at high speeds compared to slower/deadstick speeds and if stability changes much over the speed range. I think I have enough elevator area, I'll just have to try different throws to see what it needs. There's not a whole lot of drag, so it will probably glide fairly fast.
I've also been tinkering with a high wing version with a tapered wing. The plans aren't done yet, but it gives a basic idea. I'm still looking for a name.

Well, I'm pretty happy that it came out at 11ozs. less fuel. I know my old postal scale isn't the most accurate, but it's close. This thing would really cruise with a TD instead of the SS.
I put a few coats of clear dope on to fuelproof things which gave it a bit of a sheen. It needs to fly this weekend.

Dave, She is quite beautiful. No one can deny.
Glad you stuck with The SS on it. I really think more planes should be designed around it simply because it is an entry level priced motor and many newbies will want something that looks this good to put their SS in one day.
I have held back in asking so far because of the color scheme, but I just have to now. When are ya gonna slap on the big "WAR EAGLE" lettering on the wings? I don't know if you had that in mind or not but it almost screams for it based on the colors.

Thanks Bipe and Robert.
I agree about using the Surestart. There are just so many models designed around engines that are no longer available (except at collector's prices). With just a few mods here and there I'm sure it could be built under 10ozs, too.
I still don't have a name for it. Maybe something that sort of plays on the words Sure or Start? I'd like to see a lot of ideas.

Dave --
When you first pulled the fuselage top into a spine, I didn't think it would appeal to my preferences, but you have an absolutely beautiful plane. Shape, color, layout -- it's one of the nicest models to show up on the forum.

I second the canopy treatment and also cast a vote for a few patches of flat black( or even some wet or dry sandpaper) in front of the windscreen for anti glare and a couple of strips on the wing near the fuse for antislip walking.
Heck even a few panel lines while your at it. No need to get real fancy...
As for the name I like Mako... That name doesn't bite at all. Very fitting.

Thanks, y'all! I thought about a painted windscreen/canopy and even folded a piece of black paper around the fuse a la El Gringo to see how it would look. I don't know, I just can't envision it having any scale-like details. But that doesn't mean another one wouldn't look great done that way.
I think Sure Shark is growing on me. Or at least something similar that ties together the engine with the design in some way.

DAve! Wait! Wait! (pant, pant),
Before you settle on Sure Shark for a name have you considered. . . . wait for it. . .
MAKOFACE
Yes, is just sings to you doesn't it? Make-o-face. This is what your palne would do as it screams past any others in the air.
By the way, you DO build pretty airplanes! If a model like that ever came out of my workshop two things would happen; my wife would faint and I'd never be able to fly it.

So, we have:
Makoface (in the Sheetface tradition, I assume)
Mako
Sure Shark
Bluefin
BLEWBRYD
Blue Bayou (as in Blew By You)
War Eagle
and maybe a couple I missed.
Oh, or, maybe Reedneck since it was born here in Nawth Kerlina.
